Some of the best sushi I've had in Sacramento! Huge pieces of fish that are so fresh and delicious. Try the spicy edamame - it will not disappoint. Juju and the staff are so friendly and lovely. Can't wait to come back <3

I had the tempura lunch special and and Unagi roll. The staff was incredibly nice. It was my first time in, and seeing the koi pond still there was amazing. The tempura was perfect, with the pumpkin being amazing. The rolls were fun and not too sweet, which made me happy. Probably the best lunch place in midtown.Parking: Limited parking. If you have shopping to do I'd pop by the Natural Foods Co-op and then walk to Koi to pick up a take out order after you shop.

I finally got the chance to try this place! I’ve been meaning to for awhile. It’s a great place! My friend and I came and shared the pepper fin tuna along with three rolls. The pepper fin was very good and came with tempura jalapeños, which was a nice compliment. The three rolls ranked from my most to least favorite (but all were good): Tunagi, Rainbow Roll, Happy Tuna Roll.Parking: Parking lot with plenty of spaces.

I'm back, again! This is still my favorite place for Japanese food. I keep coming back to the same menu items. I love their Tempura, Deep Fried Tuna Roll and their side salad . I need to venture out and try other things off their menu, because I have no doubt that I would experience the same great flavors. Again, the staff are very friendly and welcoming every time you step through their doors. Looking for amazing Japanese food, please check out this gem of a restaurant. You won't be disappointed. Happy eats!

After reviewing our Shop916 gift card options we decided to check out Koi Japanese Bistro. Koi is conveniently located just outside of busy downtown and have their own parking lot. One of the first things you notice when you walk in is their beautiful koi pond and colorful décor. We were greeted by a friendly host and seated right away.Arriving just in time for happy hour we ordered tempura, oysters, and happy tuna. While the there was a good variety of tempura we thought the batter could have been better. Maybe the oil needed to be changed or it was overcooked. Outside of the tempura, everything else was delicious. The happy tuna was fresh and complimenting sauces made it really good. For me the highlight was the oysters. I loved the refreshing, garlicy, zesty house sauce that gave the oysters added flavor. For entrees we chose teriyaki chicken for the kids and the Koi Rainbow and Scallop Roll. The teriyaki chicken was a pretty large portion for the kids to share. They enjoyed while we took down the rolls. The Koi Rainbow had shrimp tempura, crab, cucumber topped w/ avocado, albacore, tuna, Hamachi, salmon and sesame seeds. The scallop roll had tempura salmon, spicy crab, cucumber, scallops, avocado, roe, lemon, garlic aioli, unagi sauce, green onions and furikake. Overall, we enjoyed the food and prices are reasonable. We definitely plan on returning for happy hour and sushi in 2024.

Decided to try this place for a business dinner. A rare thing mid-town to find a restaurant with its own lot. Walked in and saw immediately why they called it Koi since you walked over a small bridge over a koi pond. Cool Food was very good. Everything was super fresh tasting. The only down part was the speed of service. Don't get me wrong, our waitress was great but it was slow especially for a Tuesday night. The important thing was the food was yummy and I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu.

Had the best lunch experience. The good was so tasty and fresh. The server was friendly and attentive. O had the citrus herb salmon and I requested with the Teriyaki sauce on the side. It honestly didn't need the Teriyaki. It was so savory and cooked perfectly. The portions size were generous as well. Highly recommend.

We were looking for a good sushi spot that also had items for a guest who didn’t eat sushi. Koi Japanese Bistro did not disappoint!!I love the unique rolls along with some classics. The presentation is really nice too. Our server was super kind and even though we didn’t know it was Happy Hour, she eagerly told us and cane right back so we could put something in if we wanted. I feel like that’s pretty unique because a lot of times the establishment will not mention it or when it’s so close to ending, they won’t allow you to squeeze in a discounted item.We ordered some drinks off the happy hour menu, as well as the PepperFin. Yummy! Never had it before but our friend had and she said it was one of the best ones she’s had. Totally a must for anyone who loves a crudo. We tried one classic roll and three other rolls. They even happily accommodated our other friend who wanted to modify her order. The grilled chicken teriyaki entree came with miso soup and the sexiest house salad I’ve ever seen at a japanese restaurant. Tons of vegetables and an adequate size too. His plate also came with a cute presentation, edamame, two slices of orange, and shaved carrots. Nice balance entree!!We loved our rolls too! I was glad to see there were little to none with cream cheese. The fish was fresh and all were a good sized roll. The Juju Roll and Koi Futomaki were our favorite!! We liked the Tunacore but it was a tad spicy (and I like heat). The roasted jalapeño was pretty thick, about a 1/4”. A smaller cut would have made it perfect since it already had sesame spicy tuna and a spicy aioli.I would ask for it without jalapeño next time, or suggest that to others. We also got a tuna maki and the sashimi platter. The latter being absolutely perfect in every way. Great variety and technique!!Overall we loved Koi Japanese Bistro and our friends who live in Sacramento did too.The decor is simple and there is a big TV, which the boys liked. There is a small koi pond in the front entrance and small furniture choices, and the circular half windows above the door add a nice touch to the ambiance.

The wife and I went for lunch today (Thursday @ 12:45pm) after a friend posted on Facebook about their great tasting food, despite their lack of flavor in the sushi rice. We had to see for ourselves. Walked into the restaurant, saw the koi in the pond and the little fish swimming around. Walked up to the Host Station, where a sign stated to "Wait to be seated." Noticed the restaurant was about half full at this time. Waitress walked by to service a table, but didn't make eye contact or acknowledge me/us. Five minutes go by and another customer walks in behind us. Still no acknowledgment or service. Waitress brought a Togo order to a table nearby and still no acknowledgment. Waited for another five minutes and the person behind us walked out the door. I yelled, "HELLO?" In the restaurant and got the attention of every customer seated at tables, but none of the staff came over or acknowledged us. Fed up, we walked out. Guess I won't be experiencing that great tasting food.

Every time I come home to Sac I'm more and more impressed with the quality of restaurant options available. Koi Japanese Bistro is a perfect example of this. I was treated to a dinner here as a birthday gift and was extremely pleased with everything I had the pleasure of trying. My party split the large nigiri special, 6 pieces of a la carte nigiri, the tunacore roll, and the baked salmon roll. Nothing disappointed - the fish tasted fresh, the rolls were unique and flavorful, and the nigiri was dressed with the perfect amount of sauce and garnish. My personal favorite was the baked salmon roll, even if it was a little heavy on the sauce. The large nigiri special came with a great variety of fish, including shrimp and unagi, and several pieces had small amount of sauce or wasabi that elevated the flavor without being overwhelming. The interior is nicely decorated, with a koi pond greeting you right by the front door. Service was attentive, although a little slow to start. The food itself left me more than happy to come back for more. The Sac restaurant scene is in good hands!
