We have eaten at Magpie both prior to their move and last night after they moved, and the quality, service, and ambience are still stellar. My wife and I had the winter vegetable fritters which were crisp and non-oily in an aoli, the lamb meatballs which were delicious, acme batard with hummus that was sublime, and the wild mushrooms on white bean puree with toast points that was lovely. The cuisine is consistently well prepared, and the service is attentive without being overbearing. If you venture to midtown Sacramento, you will not be disappointed at Magpie.
Delicious lunch, loved the hibiscus ginger cinnamon hot tea. My salad was also unusual and superb. Avocado and grapefruit are a wonderful combination.
I'm going to give this restaurant a five-star rating because the appetizers and main course food, service, price and ambiance all were excellent! The Avocado Chocolate mousse dessert (no garnish) was a complete disaster to finish the meal. It looked literally like frozen mud sprinkled with salt from a salt shaker. It was flavorless and disgusting, so I hope the kitchen management can pay closer attention to the ending of a meal better than this outrageously bland and awful dessert! The other food was so amazingly good that I will still give this restaurant a five-star and hope that the management reads this part about the dessert that was really nasty!
2 of us in later years. We are Vegetarians. We ordered small plates only. No good vegetarian options in entrees. . Great options for us. Chef has put in great care to create great vegetarian small plates. I will go again!
We've been to Magpie many times, but this was our first time skipping the Chicken for Sharing (which is always delicious). Instead, we tried the Dine Downtown menu and found it to be a great deal. We both really enjoyed the salad course and the bread with hummus. I had the gnocchi with duck confit while my partner had the steelhead, and both were fantastic. The smaller portion of avocado chocolate mousse was the perfect finishing touch. As always, thank you Magpie!
Lovely restaurant serving scrumptious seasonal dishes in the heart of midtown. My party was pretty large so I started making the reservations a week ahead. The owner, Janel, called me right back after I left a message and helped me iron out the details for seating and the menu. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Andrew, our waiter was attentive. Everyone in my party raved about how delicious the food was and even my vegan friend had plenty of options to choose from I will definitely be coming back.
We (party of 4) enjoyed a variety of appetizers, wine, main courses & dessert/coffee. We were glad to be seated towards the back of the restaurant where it was a little quieter. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient . Food was nicely plated and delicious overall. We enjoyed the evening.
We had lunch at Magpie while attending a conference in Sac. From booking to end, it was a great experience. They accommodated our request for specific seating location to support a few of our group's needs, and provided us with excellent, and very fast service so we could get back to the conference in time. Thank you to our server, and to the kitchen! The food was great. Balanced flavors, clean plating, and good portion size relative to the price. Definitely worth the trip!
We were looking for something unique and special, they delivered on all aspects. Not just the food, but the cocktails were really something specials.
Delicious and innovative as always! Even brought my baby here and the noise level was perfect to have a conversation at the same time mask his baby sounds Also always love the food. They never go wrong, which is really hard for many restaurants!

It was amazing trying another farm to fork restaurant that carried local, seasonal cuisine and offered craft cocktails. It was an amazing experience and I would definitely go back! Highly recommend for a date night!
We love Magpie. The food is EXCEPTIONAL, healthy, delicious. The owners are welcoming as are the rest of the team. We sat outside on a beautiful day for this meal...one of the best places for food and experience in Sacramento.
Food is creative and delicious. We loved the special , pork served in a puffed dough. Only complaint was that it was loud inside. Not sure if the music is always that loud, but we had a hard time hearing each other.
Magpie has plenty of menu options whether you want just a small bite or a big meal. Service was excellent across the board from our host to our server and our busser. Everyone was attentive and pleasant. I had the black cod and would order it again. Their Oktoberfest option was yummy and refreshing. Ambience was dim and loud. The "mood lighting" was fine as the font for the menu was large enough to see despite the low light. I should have asked the wait staff if they could turn down the music. We all had to yell at each other or lean in to hear each other. Despite the noise level, I would go back and dine there again.
Food, service and information exchange was wonderful. Such a great staff and very knowledgeable
