Sat at the bar to watch the World Series. Non plussed service cordial but disinterested but took my drink order as I had a tasty cold pint and ordered the grilled fish tacos. Blue corn tortillas with grilled peppers and onions with a spicy salsa all tasty. What was strange was a small serving of white rice perfectly cooked but accompanied by nothing...no beans, veggies or anything! Would have been nice.:')

First time at Mayaquel Mexican and the experience was Excellent! The food and service was top notch! I will return!

Atmosphere felt more like a sports bar with all the football being played instead of a Mexican restaurant. Chips were fresh and homemade. My dish was disappointing. Adodobadado tasted liked mole with the special house sauce. I was expecting different flavor profile. The presentation was creative and ascetically pleasing. The lentil soup had great taste. The taster was disappointing as it had multiple bites with cactus

Mayahuel is one of my wife’s and my favorite spots in Sacramento. Great food, great cocktails, great service, and an amazing atmosphere—it checks every box. You do pay a little more than other places, but it’s absolutely worth it.

We started with chips, salsa, and guacamole—all fresh, flavorful, and perfectly mild. Feeling boozy, we tried a tequila flight (blanco, reposado, and añejo). The pours are small, so unless you’re a big tequila fan, I’d stick with cocktails. The drinks here are excellent—try the Paloma, Mayahuel Fresca, or La Flor if you like a little spice.

We shared the brochetas de chorizo (great bites) and the carne con chile entrée, which I highly recommend. Warm, rich, and comforting—perfect for a cold, windy day. The asada tacos are also excellent if you want something lighter.

The ambiance is beautiful, especially in October with their Día de los Muertos display. Parking can be tight, but there’s a garage right next door. Pro tip: the IMAX theater is a 30-second walk away—perfect for a dinner-and-a-movie date.

Make a reservation if you’re going on a weekend or during lunch/dinner hours—Mayahuel fills up fast!

Wish I could comment on the food. Made a reservation with opentable for 7pm after my Ironman race. Got an email from them an hour before offering a “friendly reminder” they close at 7. So, why are you offering reservations? Then we had to try to find an alternative on short notice and tired legs. Totally unprofessional.

Made a reservation for 7pm after my ironman race. Wanted to make sure we had plans locked in and was really looking forward to the food. They emailed just before with a “friendly reminder “ that they close at 7. Why did you accept the reservation? Thanks for ruining my plans. Complete amateurs. Avoid

Great service , conveniently located near Safe Performing Arts Theatre . Great place to walk to before or after a show .

Not sure how this has an award.
When you have to ask for silverware after your food comes, then have to ask for a napkin.
Of course, when the other diners finally received their food and the fork arrived + the food was cold.
I thought I would try something different. Oops. The description was well written and fooled me into thinking it would be delicious, not so much. Looks impressive, but lackluster and bland. I sent the flour tortillas back as they had a rancid oil flavor.
The other diners ordered some pretty standard dishes (meatball soup, tacos and pozole) and said it was good.
The drinks looked good.
Overall, I was not impressed. The prices seem high for the quality.
I will not be back.

We had a lovely experience eating in the restaurant. The food was wonderful and our waiter was very gracious. We chose the restaurant before we saw our play at the convention center.

We always love coming to Mayahuel. This time we enjoyed a delicious dinner before the Broadway Sacramento show. So convenient to the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center. The staff and food servers were fantastic, too!

We came here 10/1/2025 and waited 15 minutes after being seated, while tables around us that ARRIVED AFTER US, were waited on (3-4 tables). We tried to get many employees to stop and take our order but everyone ignored us. I had to get up and go to the bar and ask someone to take our order! They did not care! After that we still waited 10-15 mins before server took our order with no apologies and didn't care at all. The other tables that came after us all had their food before we ordered! We waited another 30 minutes before we received our drink orders. My lemon drop had no sugar around the rim and they got my friends drinks mixed up and no alcohol in one of them. Next, they did not bring my tortilla shells and my friend never received her soup. The service was awful and they never came to check on us. We wont come here again. This is the last time dealing with this place because this has happened several times before only because all other restaurants are full in the area. The food and drinks are over priced and not that good. Lemon drop $15. and they don't even know how to make it correctly! Don't recommend. Poor MANAGEMENT!
