I used to like Orphan way back when I was a vegetarian and enjoyed their omelets, but as a vegan the options are bland and overpriced. Went recently during the Sacramento Vegan Chef Challenge and was super disappointed. Ordered the tofu rancheros which was just unseasoned tofu chunks on top of bland black beans smashed between two tortillas. It was all covered in red sauce that tasted like it came out of a can and partially destemmed cilantro. The onions were non existent. The best part of the meal was the coffee. At $17 it was a total waste of money and I wouldn't recommend this place to vegans.
Food was super tasty and our server made us feel really welcome. Definitely a great find.
The only reason for the downgrade is the unannounced and taxed "service fee" as well as charging for regular coffee refills. Pay your people and dont pass it on to customers. You can raise prices to make up the difference and not seem so nickel and dime-y
Still worth checking out. And hopefully they will read this and consider doing the right thing by their guests

Staff was standoffish. Food was great. Wish i would have been informed ahead of time that it’s cash only.

I went during the Sacramento chef challenge and had the tofu rancheros which was surprisingly good. They had a wide variety of coffee blends to try ranging from light to dark. Service was amazing and so was the outdoor ambience. Looking forward to coming back here again.
This place surprised me, very good tasty food. When you are eating you can taste the freshness. Servers were good, I had the savory pancakes which contained jalapeños bacon pancakes absolutely delicious. I had another dish called the plates Verde. Recommended to go here. Parking can be rough during the week but don't ruin this experience for others. Have cash or they have an ATM machine in restaurant and it's Free to use.

There will always be a wait.
They do not serve alcohol or espresso drinks.
The food is amazing. Absolutely worth the wait and no booze

Food was good. Service was fine. Cash only, charges you $1for coffee refill (ridiculous) and .75 for jam (more ridiculous) ... plenty of other option...

Very filling, there was indoor and outdoor seating. Coffee was good, no flavored creamers fyi, big menu, big plates. Cash only which is fine, they have an ATM on site. Service was great, good timing, and our waiter was friendly. Food was flavorful, I got the corn tamales (no meat inside fyi) my cousins had pancakes which looked delicious and very fluffy. (If you're diabetic I'd suggest asking for no powdered sugar and butter on the side) I will definitely be back ?

The wait was worth it. The food melted in our mouths & everyone was very friendly. I had the Avocado scramble; decadently delicious. My son enjoyed his meal as well. Thanks for such a scrumptious, satisfying & great start to our day!

I love this place. Yes, there is usually a line…because the food is awesome! The staff is friendly and courteous. They have gluten free options. I have Celiac and have never had a reaction from eating here. Hint: Try the gluten free blueberry, cornmeal pancakes with real maple syrup. Yum!! They don’t accept credit cards; but, have an ATM in the restaurant with a low fee. Definitely a local gem.

I have had the pleasure of eating at Orphan House many times for breakfast. Service is always excellent. And food is always delicious and satisfying. Warm environment. A must try for anyone looking for a meet-up spot for brunch or lunch. I have tried their cornmeal blueberry pancakes, Rosemary Bread breakfast, as well as other items. Coffee is also good.
