trashy owner, treated a homeless man with money like crap, for trying to buy a slice of cake in the dinner. when I tried to reason with him he raised his voice at me as well. terrible establishment.
I had the Black Forest cake and it was divine! 4 moist layers of the most mouth watering chocolate cake, each layer separated with silky whipped cream frosting and cherry filling that I suspect is Kirschwasser. The side of the cake was adorned with chocolate curls. Coffee was rich and robust, just how I like it. As the very first patron of the day, I was able to enjoy the nostalgic ambience of the music and chrome vinyl covered seating, black and white checkered flooring, and every detail (too much to list) and go back to a time when life was simple. What a great way to start my day. Thank you, Rick and staff.
anyone who doesn’t give this place a 5 hates desert
The staff was very rushing… the cakes looked so delicious but I was immediately pressed for a decision ( even though they were just standing around), I asked for a moment and was immediately asked if I had decided.
The atmosphere was great but the temperature was cold enough that it was uncomfortable.
Overall I would rate it as fair, with slightly high prices
It is the epitome of exactly what it claims to be. Any opportunity we have to travel to Sacramento, from wherever we are in the world, that trip includes a stop at Ricks.
What an awesome place, we have to come back. it's way better than am/pm and truly does have too much good stuff. Desserts that you don't generally see and some sandwiches too although we only went there for dessert. impeccably decorated in 1950 sock hop style. The neighborhood isn't all bad, yes there's always some Street people somewhere.
I had the German chocolate cake it was delicious although they put it in a plastic container for the trip home and it ended up drawing moisture and was a little soggy so I put it in the refrigerator overnight to pull out some of the moisture, perfect. 👍
Great desserts!! The line was long but moved pretty fast. Everyone patiently waited their turn, so the energy and vibe inside was not stressed. Employees were patient with customers orders. Especially 1st timers like us. A huge variety of pasteries, cakes, cookies, pies, ice cream, etc. Everything was perfect, the cake was moist, shakes delicious, cookies soft, etc. I would recommend for the pricing, atmosphere, and many choices of desserts. It is a great place for a date night or even to take the kids.
Don't care about drivers
Eesh. We came in hoping to get our dessert socks knocked off, but what we got instead was a $10 slice of sweetened sand. Not worth the time or the price. The service was friendly, but we didn’t come in for the service. The slices look decadent, but getting a slice from a grocery store would have been a much better bet. We kept eating it hoping that the flavor would change. The only thing that changed was our minds about going on this adventure again.
Honestly. The coconut cake was super basic. I hate to even write this but it was a $10 slice of cake. 10 dollars!!! What a shameful waste of flower and sugar. Not to mention the person who shaved that coconut.

Terrible. This is not mousse. Not even close. Way overpriced too.
I really, really wanted to like this place.
I love dessert. Unfortunately, EVERYTHING I have tried from the yellow cake, to the Napoleon cake, and the banana cream pie, was utterly bland and flavorless. I could have made banana pudding at home and it would taste 1000% better.
I also ordered a sandwich and there were NO condiments on it whatsoever. It was the most dry, unappealing sandwich I have ever had. How does a sandwich have NO flavor?
The employees are nice but that doesn't make up for the unappealing food.
I recommend Icing on the Cupcake right across the street.
On 10/01/2025 I came into the dinner two purchases two items. The Sweet Potato Pie was horrible and I could not eat it. The pie had to much cinnamon in it which over powered the potato sweet potato flavor. I spent 21.00 for two items and I tried to call the store to speak to a manager or team member. Nobody answered the phone and I would never go back. Please stick to cakes
They had really good customer service. I hadn't been there in a long time and some of the recipes have changed but it is still a nice establishment. The environment was nice.
Cakes and more! The owner should open more shops around town
