The only reason I wouldn’t give it a 5 is because it can be a little pricey depending on what you get and the staff wasn’t the kindest to me and my friends. Otherwise id definitely recommend!
Purchased 2 different cake slices. Cakes were dry but flavored
The staff is friendly and efficient, the aesthetic is fun retro, and most importantly the desserts are delightful!! I’m particular about desserts and this place does everything right, every time. I highly recommend the fruit basket as it’s so light, airy, and addicting!
Nice place but dirty :(
I use to like this place. I still think it's ok but here is the last experience...ordered a slice of cake. Slice was super thin. Ordered a chocolate chip cookie. Ended up being hard as a rock. A hot chocolate and a chocolate cream pie both were ok. Total was $30 ....not worth it. Use to be better. Over rated now.
Great variety, 50's diner feel... time to freshen up the space wuth better seating though
Desserts were always really great, but we got some the other day and the cakes tasted like cheap grocery store products.
I had been going to Rick's dessert diner dating back 35 years and remember delicious homemade pies, cakes and cookies that were like an old New York bake shop. I went in there today and I was extremely disappointed. Everything looked like it was shipped in from possibly Costco or not made in-house. I ordered the lemon meringue pie, but could not even eat one bite of it. It was so sickeningly sweet and the meringue was crunchy and hard, and I don't think there was any real lemon juice in this whatsoever, and the crust did not seem homemade at all. Sadly, I do not think they're baking anything in their bakery if they are, they need to get a new chef.
Absolutely horrible.
Off top the best cakes in Sacramento probably even California I recommend The Great White cake I get 1 every year for my bday
Save yourself time and money, this place is not always on point. The sandwiches have no flavor, all you taste is the bread which is hard to chew. Some of the cakes are bland and for 10.95 for a slice you might as well save your money. Best yellow cake has changed their ingredients when the new owner took over. And the birthday cake is dried. Tried to give it another shot and got the same experience.

Good sandwiches, very dissapointed in the pie though. Service is not very good, and its dirty. They dont clear tables very often, and homeless peeps kept darting in and grabbing food off the tables. Its sadly gone downhill quite a bit.

I was really disappointed with my experience at Rick’s Dessert and Diner, especially considering the price paid for this cake. This cake was for my mom’s 75th birthday, which made the situation even more upsetting.
When I opened the box, the cake was already falling apart, with pieces separated and frosting smeared inside the packaging. It clearly did not survive normal transport. For the cost, I expected a reasonably sized, sturdy box that would keep the cake secure during travel. Instead, the packaging was inadequate, allowing the cake to shift and break apart before it even made it home.
The cake itself may have had potential, but the poor packaging and resulting damage took away from the presentation on such an important milestone celebration. When customers are paying premium prices, safe and appropriate packaging should be standard, not optional...
Rick’s used to be our favorite. Quality now is substandard.. red velvet cake used to be rich, moist… now it’s dry, tasteless. Same for the chocolate mouse cake. No longer dense rich flavor.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (10/10)
Hands down the best tiramisu I’ve ever had in my life.
The place has an amazing old-school American movie vibe. I went around 10:00 PM and there was still a long line—waited about 15 minutes, but it was 100% worth it.
The tiramisu is unreal. I’ve never had anything like it. I literally went back and bought it again.
• Tiramisu: the best, no question
• Chocolate lava cake: also very good
• Bread: starting from $2 and surprisingly incredible
$10 for a cake slice? I’d honestly pay $30 for that tiramisu without hesitation.
Overall: 10 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Absolutely worth the wait.
Literally had hair baked in my CC cookie . Also the desserts are hella mid. 2/10
