What is up with the one way in and one way out. Trying to grocery shop is a nightmare. And the staff act as if this is normal. If there was an active shooter in this grocery store everyone would die because they have completely blocked off the entrances and exits. Is this even legal? Meanwhile as I'm trying to purchase my car tags at the dmv kiosk, I'm being accosted by an unhoused person with a yellow vest and 2 security guards are standing right next to me allowing it to happen, 3 workers are right there looking uncomfortable but not saying anything or stoping it, More customers are squeezing through the subtle exit, the self check out guy, is leaned back with his hands in his pockets watching. What a joke.

This is a good Safeway -- the one at 1814 19th St., Sacramento. Most of the employees are friendly and do a great job. I respect them. But a few days ago, I had a bad experience at this Safeway, which is within walking distance of my home.My report:On Tuesday night, 17 October 2023, I bought $72.59 worth of groceries, including a package of Nathan's Beef Franks. I had a craving for hot dogs, so I purchased five "Jumbo" dogs for $8.29. I also bought some mustard along with buns. The following evening, 18 October, I was about to boil the franks when I made a shocking discovery, before opening the package. Tiny letters at the bottom of the plastic container said:Use By Oct. 4, 2023.This meant the hot dogs were inedible 13 DAYS BEFORE I BOUGHT THEM! They should have been removed from Safeway's "Beef and Sausages" refrigerator by 30 September!I was disappointed! I was so looking forward to enjoying hot dogs that evening! The next day I returned to Safeway with the unopened hot dogs.A cashier directed me to the Service Desk, where I courteously requested a refund. At first, the Hispanic lady behind the desk treated me like I was a con man/criminal.She examined my receipt with great care, like a jeweler inspecting a fine diamond. She turned it this way and that way, checking this line and that one! The lady then requested my phone number. When I gave it to her, she rudely said there was a discrepancy between that phone number and the one I had provided at the time of purchase. She also questioned how much I had paid for the spoiled product. I softly told her $8.29, the amount on the receipt. The lady shook her head, seemingly not understanding, or, perhaps, not caring."With all due respect, I am not a criminal. I simply want a refund," I told her.At that point she crossed out the words "Nathan Beef Frank" from the receipt and handed me $8.29. That was it, friends. This incident should never have happened. Selling outdated merchandise is not right. It's unlawful! It's dangerous! Will I continue to shop at this Safeway?Yes I will. But I guarantee you: Going forward, I'll check the "end date" of any product from this Safeway BEFORE PAYING FOR IT. Sad but true!

Worst Safeway in the area! The staff is so rude and lazy!! Customer service is terrible and the lines are really long!

This location is seriously awful. Tons of homeless people sit by the only door they let you go through now so you're forced to walk between them all. I've been threatened in the bathroom before by some crazy homeless guy. All that aside, it's annoying that the deli department is never opened anymore. All i want is sliced meat from the deli. I run here after work and it's closed. Every single day. Hours online indicate it should be open but it's closed at 5pm. Why? At least update your hours online. The only reason this place gets 2 stars, is because location downtown is convenient and prices aren't terrible.

Man this Safeway is absolutely depressing. A lot of it is not the fault of the staff, they're doing the best they can. Homelessness is rampant all throughout the country and many seem to congregate at this Safeway for whatever reason. Again, not Safeway's fault and not staff's fault at all. It's just unfortunate. The inside of this grocery store is very 'dated.' I wish Safeway/Vons/corporate would invest more money into it. It's in one of the best locations in the Sacramento region, being on R Street and in 'Ice Blocks.' They need to stop being cheap and make this store more aesthetically pleasing. The groceries are very overpriced here, for whatever reason. I'm not expecting grocery prices to be as low as Grocery Outlet or anything, but as of late it seems like their prices are similar to somewhere like the Co Op. So if that's the case, I might as well go to the Co Op where the quality of groceries is better, as is the overall experience. Even though I live walking distance from here, I hardly ever go. It's just too depressing and too much chaos, unfortunately.

Jacobi In the deli was great today. Made our sandwiches perfectly and gave excellent customer service.

I've been shopping at Safeway for 50+ years and this location is my favorite . Recently I had a problem with a product and Lizbete was so helpful . Also love to talk to my Safeway friends Lindsey and Jillian, who I have known for years .Neighborhood service at its best . Thank you to the staff at this branch for the amazing attention .Much love ,Chuck

Things have become so bad there are more security than grocery staff. My bank even declines my card there when I tap it. I have to insert it and use the pin. I'm not blaming Safeway or the employees, the situation with theft and craziness is out of control

If you want to feel guilty for shopping, go here. Even the checkout lines have barriers when they are not in use to assumedly prevent theft by folks walking through unused checkout lanes with their items and not paying. They've got a Starbucks in there if you really want one. Good luck parking. Even the weed store across the street had better traffic. Pass.

The young lady in the deli was unattended and did not listen. She didn't give me what I asked for. I had to ask 3 times and send it back 4 times. She didn't communicate well at all and seemed lazy. The lady who made the sandwich I ordered made it wrong. Then they were out of 3 items I wanted on my sandwich. This has happened to me in the deli multiple times. I doubt I'll be back to the deli.

If you want cheap food and don't care about any special brand names of ingredients, then shop somewhere else. But if you like a clean store and fantastic, fresh produce and can find almost anything, you shop at Safeway. It costs a little more on some items and a little less on others. It's a good balance and I'll take a clean store anyway and fresh produce. I'm sold.

This is our regular grocery store. Let me start by saying that there's so much activity going on in the men's restrooms (guys trying to hide Tylenol, food, juices, you name it: stealing inside their clothes, getting high) you can actually see and smell all the drugs in there. Shopping carts! Ugh, it is a fuc$& pain in the a** to be able to get a shopping car. Like WTF Safeway? You make so much profit every year, and your "corporate people" are not able to think/resolve a simple think like how to keep/have more available shopping carts for the customers. There's so much technology out there to keep shopping carts from being stolen. The other issue is, there are not enough parking spaces available for shoppers. It is like 70% of those spaces are designed for "employee parking". Give me a break!

First time visiting this location on a Saturday afternoon. Wasn't too busy but not a fan of the parking lot. It's a congested shopping center. It was hard to find a shopping cart as it's a grocery store which I thought was strange. The store was fully stocked and produce looked great. The cashier was nice and provided good customer. Please be careful and alert when out front. I did notice homeless people walking around, searching the trash cans, and/ or asking for money.

My last several visits here over the last few months there have been zero carts. Zero up front where they're consolidated and zero at most cart returns. Today a ton of shoppers were scouring the parking lot looking for carts. I finally found one in a far off corner. Some were waiting for other customers to finish unloading to get their carts. Some resorted to using carts from other stores, carrying piles of stuff in their arms, or stuffing groceries in reusable bags. It is a madhouse. Someone is going to get hit by a car trying to find a cart in the lot. And I don't know how people manage this task with a family of young kids, if they're older or have disabilities, etc. It isn't isolated or a one time thing or that it was really busy. This situation has been pretty consistent as they simply do not have nearly enough carts.
