Johnny and Noah are great once you get inside! They took great care of us and made our experience special. Unfortunately you have to get passed Michael Jett to get inside.. even with a reservation we were turned away and asked to come back at a later time and then when returned at the requested time, we were still turned away. He invited us for a "VIP treatment at a later time" and when we took him up on that, we weren't actually treated to anything special. Noah and Johnny made it the best it could be given the circumstances but it was a very odd encounter.

Atmosphere is great. Went with a group of friends. They did get some of our drinks wrong but it was an honest mistake 2 drinks had the same name partly. No one cleared our empty plates. Just left it all with us till we left after 2hrs.

Credit to all the patrons who didn't let anything slip on Reddit and allowed me to go through the magic of getting into this place on my own. Very good, very original drinks here. Good food. Good bartenders. Good times.

Honestly don’t waste your time or money. It’s a sad cocktail bar that’s living off some fantasy from New York in 2018. $18 cocktails that are objectively bad and overly sweet. Also the servers are way way way too try hard. The house cocktail taste like college jungle juice. Run from this establishment.

This place has the worst integrity as a business. I've been to many bars and have never gotten charged a gratuity for a drink I did not like. I ordered a drink because the server was convinced I would like it. I ordered a lower spice level because I've ordered spicy passionfruit margaritas at other bars and liked them. I took one sip and couldn't handle the bitterness. My friend thought the flavor was off as well. She liked her drink that she ordered. My second drink that was recommended by the server was much better and I finished it. When I received my bill I noticed I got charged for gratuity for 3 drinks instead of 2. They explained to me that they charge gratuity because someone made the drink and washed the glass. That's part of the job though. It doesn't take that much time to dump a drink and wash a glass. As a bartending business you should understand that everyone's palette is different and not everyone will enjoy the same drink. The fact that I got charged $10 for a 20% gratuity on a $36 tab is ridiculous. I know I'm a woman but I'm not ignorant. I know that they charged me gratuity for 3 drinks when we only enjoyed and fully drank 2. I only took a sip of my first drink and was disgusted and told the server right away. I definitely would not come back to a place like this who clearly doesn't care about their customers but only about their profits.

I love speakeasy bars and have been a few in different cities. This is my first time visiting The Roost in Sacramento. I won't spoil the entrance for you and will just say - it was fun.We got here at 5:00 pm on Saturday without reservation. We figured it's still early enough that we should be able to get a table/seat. We were seated at the bar right away and I was just captivated by the magnificent bar with at least 200+ bottles. It really set a nice vibe for the place. We took our time with the menu. There are so many cocktails to pick from, and if you still don't find what you want, the bartender can make something off the menu by your preferences. Here's what we had.CosmopolitanOldie but a goodie. For the longest time, this was my go-to cocktail. It's not a difficult drink to make, but you can screw it up if the portions are off. It was perfect and delicious!Naked and FamousBest cocktail names there is with Mezcal, Chartreuse, Aperol and fresh lime juice. It's got a really strong flavor and incredibly fruity. Yum!TranquilityThis was off menu based on preference. It's similar to Equanimity but replace Scotch with Tequila with variety of flavors, including sweet, bitter and citrus. A refreshing and slightly tart cocktail. Perfect for the summer!KaraageWe didn't want to drink on an empty stomach. The karaage was perfect, deep-fried lightly with dipping sauce. They also have few other food items on the menu - raw oysters, cheese plate and olives. If you enjoy a well crafted cocktails, you must try The Roost. It was a fun night and will definitely be back.

We had a reservation for 6:45pm and we prepaid $60 to hold it. They guarantee a 2hr reservation, which in this case would be till 8:45pm. At 4:30pm I called them and asked them if we could move our reservation to 7:30pm as we had some car trouble and they said yes no worries. We got there at 7:30pm. We ordered some food at 7:45pm and they said we can’t serve you food as you have to leave at 8:15pm and it takes us 20-30 mins to serve food. We said well we have a two hour reservation and the bar is empty (it was 30% empty at the time) and they said sorry we can’t serve you anything else. So even though we prepaid $60 for two hours we were rudely kicked out in 45 mins with only time to have one drink. 7:30pm-8:15pm. When we were leaving the manager came to apologize and offered to refund the $60. Mentioning this experience as they had enough opportunity to just honor our reservation but during the short time we were there 3 different people said “let me check” … and then would come back and say we had to leave … even when 12 other seats were vacant near us. My take is that this bar is trying to create a feeling of exclusivity, which is not a bad thing, but they haven’t yet figured out how to actually deliver on it. So it just comes across as fake and pretentious where the focus is on creating a facade rather than customer service. I had decided to try out this bar based on the reviews. So for folks who have been to other “speak easy” places in other cities around the world, just a heads up that it’s not really that kind of place. Other than the gimmicky “hidden” entrance; you easily see once you are in that it’s just a regular bar.

Close your eyes and imagine you are transported back in time to the 1920s, during the Prohibition era, where the very first speakeasy came into fruition, because the sale or transportation of alcohol was illegal in the US. So imagine the hidden speakeasies that you had to learn from by word of mouth and how the secrecy of such an establishment was forbidden, or face being arrested. It is a secret and I don’t want to spoil the surprise on how to get there, but I guarantee that you will love it just as much as I did. I’ve been to plenty of speakeasies and bars around the world and none and I mean non compares to this one and has everyone beat as far as alcoholic beverages. Mind blown!!! If you want to stick to the theme of the 1920s, there’s a drink for you. Or the bartender can create one that matches your palette. Their expertise and their extensive selection sealed the deal. Floor to ceiling alcohol display is impressive. I enjoy grazing on appetizers while sipping on those delicious drinks. Amazing customer service and relaxing vibe! Worth the price point. Treat yourself!Six stars for the overall experience!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mandatory 20% tip on bill.Great atmosphere, great cocktails, great selection. Prices are a little high. Service is usually great. Let me tip 20% if my waiter/waitress is exceptional. I've had an apathetic waiter there once, and I wish I could have not tipped them. I would be here all the time if it wasn't so expensive.Only food is small appetizers/charcuterie.
