Toro Place Cafe: Salinas Hwy. (Breakfast over @ 11:30am no exceptions): excellent chil verde. Nice and chunky. Chunks of chili as well. 1st time I saw that. The biscuits and gravy are good too. Fresh biscuit. 2/1/2026. I would recommend and I will be back next time I head to Monterey. They are hustling and bustling. The food is all that matters at the end.

I wanted to like this place but service was extremely poor, staff ignored us took a long time to order, get drinks and silverware as other tables were getting great service. Took a long time to even pay are bill for such small portions on the crab Benedict. Or to have staff tell us we had 2 minutes to order breakfast before they switched to lunch as another table whi showed up 15 minutes after we did and no mention to them the breakfast menu was over. Better places with better service to eat unless you like being ignored.
No service. Everyone around us received their utensils and menus when seated. We did not. Two tables that were seated after us received their utensils and drinks in a reasonable time. Orders from those parties were placed as well. Finally, when we recieved menus, we were told firmly that we had two minutes to order from the breakfast selections. Okay. The crab benedict sauce was great. Maybe a tablespoon on crab on the Englsih muffins. Avocado was very good. The fruit cup was delish. We got the sense we were not welcomed to be there.

My first experience here at the toro cafe.
All I can say is that I experienced terrible customer service, the food was not the best and not to mention we were seated in the worst seat of the restaurant! Right next to the disposal area. Honestly a shame since this will be my first and last experience coming here.

This is a must for breakfast and their lunches are great too! We moved out of state years ago, but every year when we come home for the holidays, we ALWAYS stop in at least once. Friendly and welcoming staff and environment , coffee is always hot and fresh, food is fresh and made to order. It’s very nostalgic for me, lots of memories. Love everything about this place! Until next year!

A wild west remnant near Laguna Seca Raceway serving home made breakfast and lunch.

This is the first time I have ever felt motivated to review a restaurant. Food was bad, hair in potato salad, staff is rude.

Service was quick, loved the decor and atmosphere, and the food was delicious. Parking might be an issue but it's worth it. Especially for the cinnamon roll

I tried to get a table here a few weeks ago on a Saturday morning. It was busy as expected and I was standing right in front of the register waiting to be greeted and put on a waiting list. I waited for 15 minutes and I didn’t even get an acknowledgment from the staff. They walked past me multiple times and avoided eye contact. I used to be a server and I understand things get overwhelming but it only takes a second to greet a guest and let them know someone will be with them soon. I felt like a ghost and looking around the room I wondered if my ethnicity was why I was ignored. Horrible first impression and I won’t return. There’s so many other good breakfast spots around.

We stopped by for lunch on a Saturday and we were thrilled with our order. I had the grilled chicken club and spouse had the mushroom burger. 🍔 We enjoyed the patio dining and the food was terrific! If you are on Hwy 68 the Toro Cafe is a must stop!
Great tasting, home style, comforting meals served here. Can sit outside on covered patio or indoors. Parking is tricky, and be very careful getting off of, or back onto, highway 68. Worth going. Not fancy, casual dress, very comfortable.
Tasty food, cute spot, and lovely service! Can’t wait to go back!
