We absolutely love Insalata’s and both walk to dine in and take-out. Reliable and delicious every time.

This is a beautiful place to celebrate a birthday! The service was outstanding! Wonderful thoughtfully prepared and well seasoned options. Loved the smoky garbanzos on the Meze platter!

I have been visiting Insalata's for 15 years. I have always found it to offer a quality meal with good service and a very cozy atmosphere. I thought perfect for a comfortable and romantic date with a new girlfriend. After having lived in San Anselmo for years, I have now moved to Sonoma and my date drove from El Cerrito. We were looking for a nice place to meet somewhere in the middle. However, last night the service was flat out surly. Our waitress had an attitude. We waited 30-40 minutes to place a drink order. The bill was rudely thrust under our nose at the end after the restaurant had quieted down. As we left, we were studiously avoided by the same server who was 2 feet from us. No thank you for us. Last night, Insalata's failed on the criteria that has made it a go to for years. It was not warm, romantic and cozy. To the contrary, the evening left us with a cold feeling. Too bad.

We had not been here for a while & really enjoyed our salads for lunch. Everyone here seems quite interested in the food they put on your table. We won't stay away so long in the future.

The food, staff and atmosphere is excellent. One plus is, like France, the waiter does not bother you during the meal. They know the food is good, so they don't have to ask you.

My salad was not so great - (Winter salad) very uninspiring dressing. Everything else was great - focaccia bread superb. Kind of anxiety producing experience - so many rules: cancellation (shocking fees), timing.

Pricy place, but food was above average for Marin.

Goodfood

Loved my meal. The server said our soup was a butternut squash with leeks, but it was spicy and tasted more like tomato than butternut squash. But the Fattoush was excellent, and we both loved that. Our server was perfect in every other way - just the right amount of attentive. Our hostess was so wonderful, as always. I love going to Insalata's as the staff always makes me feel so welcome.

Great food with wonderful service. Our water was delightful and help us with our cocktail selections & food offerings. We enjoyed the mezze platter for an appetizer. Delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed the hamachi crudo, beet salad, & lamb chops. All excellent in presentation & taste. Loved the flavor combinations in every dish. Healthy portions, so no room left for dessert. Highly recommend the restaurant.

Great place in the heart of San Anselmo. Fresh, tasty...Mediterranean cuisine. The staff are so pleasant, very attentive and nice. Attended a shower here today in their side room. I was so impressed with the quality and quantity of the portions. Top service with a smile. I will definitely return.

Everything was delicious. Service was excellent. High quality cocktails. I ordered a Boulevardier with Gran Classico. Paris came to the table and I told her that Tempus Fugit carries a vermouth line called Alessio. She said she loves Tempus Fugit products. They carry many of their products and is going to now look into the Alessio vermouths.

I've eaten many times at Insalata and I've always considered Insalata to be excellent, until last night. We were seated next to a cold drafty window and had to keep jackets on all meal. Then next to us was a party of 6-7 people, mostly men who shouted and debated in loud voices all night. It was totally imposible to converse. Had the restaurant not been totally full and booked we would have asked to be moved. My fresh salmon was cooked perfectly but hard to enjoy due to the overwhelming numbers of different flavors and ingredients. Way too complex for a perfect piece of fresh fish. It just didn't work at all, tasted entirely random and honestly spoiled the fish. Our dessert was a berry tart but instead was really a cheese cake type dish and it was way too sweet with no tartness in the berry jam nor the creamy middle layer. Just overwhelmingly and gooey sweet drowning out any flavor. I sadly couldn't wait to leave. I've had lovely meals there in the past but sadly I wouldn't be inclined to return after our experience.

The fish and chips were very good, and worth the $25. The side slaw served with it was OK. My friend had the winter salad, and for the life of us we couldn't figure out why it also cost $24, with no protein except pepitas. We finally figured it must be the cumquats and the endive. Since my fish and chips were a very generous serving, I gave her 1/3 and took 1/3 home. It was kind of hard to find something we wanted on the menu; neither of us is big on Middle Eastern food.

Nice food, mild flavors. Service was good but not as attentive as I would have expected. Mussels app alaplaya were the best item.
