I never thought I'd be giving a restaurant that has lower than 3.5 stars a chance and what is even more shocking is that I came away so impressed that I'm giving Sushi House 5 stars. The food, customer service, value, and cleanliness took me by surprise. When a restaurant has been open for a decade I'm sure there are some down points in their life, but I can at least say at this moment they are definitely better than how they used to be in my perspective. I was impressed with how clean the inside is too. Even the soy sauce bottles are wiped and spotless. Customer service is quite friendly too and this is a Chinese owned restaurant. Inflation is real when I see old reviews talk about the great deal the $8.99 Bentos are from a decade ago. Now the Happy Bento Box here costs $16.95 and I consider that a bargain in this day and age considering almost every Japanese restaurant is charging over $20 for their Bentos when some charge that price for only two options. I ordered the standard Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Teriyaki, and California Roll. It's as safe as it gets. The Beef Teriyaki is the only item that is extra charge being $2 more, but I have no complaints if it is good and surely enough it was a real tender piece of beef. Perfectly medium rare and not overcooked to medium like some psychos like it. The Chicken Teriyaki is also very tender. The Teriyaki sauce they use here is honestly pretty good too. Not overly sweet and doesn't take away from the savory flavors. The California Roll also tastes like a standard California Roll. Can't go wrong with that imitation crab goodness. The side salad let's pretend doesn't exist. The miso soup that comes with the bento was piping hot which was perfect. Had the right amount of seaweed and tofu. I also yoinked a tempura from someone else and it was really crispy and the batter wasn't too thick. I also stole a sashimi and it was surprisingly pretty fresh too. Definitely great options for the bento. Also any Japanese restaurant like this one that serves hot tea for free gets bonus points from me. Some places like to charge $2-$3 for some mediocre teabag teas and I just opt for water instead usually. I'd say the 2024 version of Sushi House is at least better than 3.3 stars and I'd be happy with coming back again.

First time here and the service was excellent! We got our food in a timely manner and the server was very attentive and friendly. The sushi was delicious, we ordered the spider roll, the flower roll and the caterpillar roll. Ali was amazing! And you can't beat the price either. Good quality food too! I will definitely be back!

First time trying here. The chirashi bowl was filling, with plenty of sushi rice, no fish roe but for a lil less than $20 and the amount of fish was good and it was fresh and tasty. The chicken karaage here was def better than a lot of restaurants, it was very good. Neku donburi was okay, it’s with mushrooms as well. Will definitely come back again for the fried foods and chirashi

We have been going to this place thru mgmt changes and or owners, we don't know who is who. What we know is that thru covid and all kinds of ups and downs of THE AVENUE it has remained great SUSHI.

Small, home-town place with delicious food! The pork gyoza is some of the best I've had! We were so happy to find this place on our visit to San Bruno.

Loved the bento boxes. Didn't like the raw fish. Stick to the cooked items. Tempura, CA roll and. Chicken teriyaki was very good.

We've been coming to Sushi House for 13+ years! This is a cute little spot located right on San Mateo Ave. Parking can sometimes be a challenge, though they do have a private lot in the back with an entrance directly from the lot. There is also a very narrow alley to the immediate left of the restaurant that takes you back to the parking area. *AMBIANCE*The place itself is pretty small, with only around a dozen tables and some seats at the sushi bar. There are a few TV's inside which sometimes will show sports. It's generally not too busy, but there are almost always people eating there. The atmosphere is great for both a casual meal, and a date night! *FOOD*One thing that sets Sushi House apart from other places, is the free Miso Soup they give you when you sit down. That's right, I said FREE! I'm a huge Miso fan, but don't always feel like paying $3-5 for a small bowl. The fish is fresh and delicious. My partner almost exclusively orders the 15pc Sashimi Combo, and has never been disappointed. They have a page full of Specialty rolls, as well as standard rolls and dishes. They do Bento Boxes, soups, and have a bunch of apps such as Chicken Karaage, Tempura, Gyoza, Oysters, Edamame, and more! There is a newer "secret" menu at the back with some different dishes than in the main menu. They have Garlic Edamame in addition to some fancier, different rolls. *DRINKS*Selection of standard sodas (Coke, Sprite), Ramune, Japanese Beer, Wine, and Sake. We usually do the Plum Wine; It's sweet, and for $6 they give you a healthy pour!*OVERALL*Definitely recommend coming to check out and support this local, family owned spot. One of the staff was telling us recently that her mom owns it, and her sister usually works there too but is away at College. They've done some remodeling and menu updating over the years, however, the quality has stayed consistent throughout.Thank you again for a delicious meal, we look forward to coming back again soon! The food is good. Not only the appearance but also the ingredients are excellent. They put the effort to choose and cook the food. You can feel when you eat it.

I don't think I'll be coming back. I used to be a lot better. I often enjoyed to order the sashimi salad and it would be made with seaweed, assorted raw fish, spices, sesame seeds and so on.. but last time i ordered it, they just used cheap head lettuce with a bunch of chopped up raw fish over the top and what seemed like the whole bottle of dressing dumped over the top! It was a mess. Restaurant was messy and smelled like bleach in the dining area.

Came here for a business lunch with my partners. I ordered the Curry Chicken Katsu. Nothing too impressive about this place. My curry was a bit runny for Japanese curry and the katsu was a bit dry. I had ordered the chicken karage, I wish they offered curry karage also because that chicken was great.

First time coming here and was impressed by the clean interior. The service was good and very fast. The sushi and food we ordered was good enough to satisfy a Japanese craving. Prices were great.
