JC Bruno Restaurant 741 San Mateo Ave, San Bruno American • $$

“JC Bruno is more than a restaurant, it’s a relationship. It’s now my #1 spot, and I’d recommend it in a heartbeat to anyone looking for great food, genuine people, and unforgettable service! If you’re looking for a go-to restaurant that feels like your favorite local spot and your second home, JC Bruno is it. I truly mean when I say that Marcela, the owner, is the soul of this place, and she has completely redefined what true hospitality means in today’s world. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted not just by a friendly staff, but by people who genuinely care. Marcela herself is always around, and what makes her so special is that she doesn’t act like a distant owner, but rather you feel like you’re planning something with a longtime friend. She’ll chat with you, laugh with you, and most importantly, she stands by you to help plan your perfect experience, whether you’re organizing a small dinner or a full-blown celebration. What blew me away most was how flexible she is. JC Bruno’s menu is already this amazing fusion of European, Mediterranean, and other international flavors, but if there’s something special you want that’s not listed? Just ask. Marcela will go out of her way to make it happen. That kind of flexibility is almost unheard of these days. I’ve worked with many restaurants for events and special dinners, but working with Marcela is different because she treats you like a partner, not a transaction. She’ll talk through your vision, offer smart suggestions, and help you figure out the best possible setup for your group. The way she collaborates with you makes it fun and stress-free. It’s rare to find a place where the owner is this involved and down-to-earth.”

Taqueria Mi Durango 287 El Camino Real, San Bruno Mexican • $

“My son and I YELPED for Mexican food.Good Mexican Food, and decided to give this place a try. I had the Spicy Shrimp Plate, and my son had the Steak and Spicy Prawns. They also provide Tortilla Chips and a Salsa Bar. The guy who cooked our food, knows how to cook! My shrimp was absolutely a balance of green/red peppers, onions, in a slightly sweet, savory and mildly spicy sauce. The Rice was done just right(not dried out). The Black Beans, were tender, with just the right amount of salt. The Iceberg lettuce and sliced radish was cold, fresh and crispy— Served with a dollop of sour cream, avocado sauce; a slice of tomato and sprinkle of Mexican cheese top the salad - it did a nice job to balance the heat of the main course. Everything was well executed. The overall indoor atmosphere is very clean, simple and no frills. Love their neon menu signage. And, their prices are reasonable. Thank you for the delicious meal. We will be back.”

Well let me tell you about Newell's.. The bartender was fabulous! She wasn't even sure what a certain drink was but she more than nailed it! It was right on! My Cadillac margarita was potent! I managed to wobble out of there to my next destination.. but barely! They do not serve food but our sweet bartender brought popcorn in order to save me embarrassment! “My friend brought me to this restaurant. I was amazed at the amount of food you get in their lunch specials. A good portioned ball of rice that is a good portion. It is serviced with salad and terriyaki beef, chicken, or salmon. Along with that in a bento box you get 6 sushi rolls. I had the CA roll, fresh salmon, and smallish gyoza. All that for $17.95. What a deal!!

The service is excellent. Daniel is a very nice man who works the register and takes orders. He was so kind and understanding because we couldn't go inside because of my friend's condition she cannot walk. He offered to bring the food out to us. Who does that anymore.

The atmosphere felt comforting. The customers all looked pleased and happy.

La Salsa 1230 El Camino Real Ste 1230 - Q, San Bruno Mexican • $

“Good taco salads here in their San Bruno location. It was $11.29 + $2.49 for the added steak. That crispy flicky taco shell revivals the best of them. Free chips! If you want to mix it up, their mango salsa is a very unique La Salsa thing. They tend to get rid of the mango salsa during the holiday season though. Plenty of seats and service was excellent for a counter ordering restaurant. The cashier is also the chef.

About La Salsa, I used to visit their SF Battery St. location near my office in the 2000's before they closed. Also previously in the 2000's, I used to visit their Mountain View location every other Saturday before going to Fry's Electronics. Their food is healthy if you order the right things.”

Our server, Betty (i think) made sure to keep bringing us fresh biscuits while we waited on our food. Betty was exceptionally sweet. I think we were her last table but she went out of her way to be nice to us. One of my friends had a togo order and she waited to make sure the burger got to us before she left her shift. she was so genuinely gracious, pleasant and accommodating We all hope she is working the next time we are in. she’s a great server.❤️ we’re already planning our next trip”

“I was impressed with my passionfruit tea with a bit of real pulp and seeds. It was $5.50 for the standard large size (24 oz) with a topping, an amazing deal in 2026. They definitely back off the ice if requested, sweetness is slightly high (their 50% is closer to my palate's 70%), and I appreciate the option to choose between green or black teas. The strawberry jellies are tasty, but were harder to suck up the straw. Service was fast and the interior has some tables with C-pop in the background; I'd be glad to hang out with my friends here.”

“Located near Luckys and Lowes, this is a neighborhood hole in the wall. It’s not an Ichi Ramen (shown in the front of the restaurant) as they just never spent the money to replace the sign. Being said this place gets packed fast especially on weekends. It’s a great spot for rice porridge and other Cantonese comfort food. Guess don’t judge the book by its cover 😉Tried the pork rice congee (hope I spelled that right) and the beef stew clay pot with both the regular and sweet Chinese doughnut. Enjoyed the tender pork and thick porridge. Beef stew was also very tender and savory 😋 I say check it out.”

“I placed an order for carry out. When I arrived the guy told me that he had just put it in the oven, I waited just about eight minutes.. I normally don’t buy Papa John’s pizza because I feel they’re a little pricey but honestly, I must’ve forgotten why. The ingredients really do taste better. Everything was delicious. The red sauce was so good. I’m a Alfredo person but dang delicious. Glad I switched it up. I ordered a barbecue chicken pizza and a super Hawaiian. I tried both and thought both were delicious, also they don’t skimp on toppings. Good service they asked if I wanted Parmesan, pepper, napkins, plates. No missing garlic dipping cups or peppers everything was right. Staff was super friendly professional, and helped me with using my Groupon bucks because I couldn’t figure it out. Amazing staff!”

“We visited Yao Yao for dinner on a Wednesday evening, arriving around 5:30 PM. By 6:30 PM, the place was completely packed with a line forming out the door, so I definitely recommend getting there early!

The ordering process is super convenient—I love their iPad ordering system and the massive variety of options on the menu. While one of their specialties is the pickled vegetable boiled fish, we decided to try the BBQ trio with soy sauce chicken. It wasn't quite as good as the last time my husband ordered it for lunch, but everything else—the house fried rice, pig ear & tripe appetizer, morning glory, and braised beef brisket—was all really good.

Dining with a toddler, I’ve become much more attentive to cleanliness. I’m happy to report that the restaurant and the restroom were both clean and well-maintained, which makes a big difference when you’re out with a little one. We'll definitely be back!”
