Dine in: Staff is friendly. Enough capacity to dine in without being cramped. Favorite : noodle soup. Take out: Their rolls, sushi are smaller compare to other Japanese restaurants. Overall: Ryu Sushi Bistro deserves 5 *!

This place is very good, until they changed up the menu...the last two times I was there I walked out, want tempura no tempura except an appetizer. Want 3 PC sushi, only does rolls... a big disappointment!

My family ordered take out last night from Ryu Sushi and the new owners and menu did not disappoint. The new menu is focused on sushi rolls. I got 3 regular rolls, and 4 specialty rolls, and each was beautifully prepared and delicious. The fish was very fresh, and each roll nicely presented in the take out box. Outside seating was full, and there was a steady stream of take out customers. I phoned in my order and asked that it be ready by a specific time, and it was. Great service, and, delicious sushi.

Ryu has been my go to local sushi spot for a few years- it's truly such a hidden gem. They were closed for a bit but recently just reopened with new ownership + a new menu, strictly rolls. I got takeout tonight for the first time since they reopened and I'm so excited to share that the sushi is delicious. The fish is super fresh and the rolls were packaged super clean in the take out boxes. The presentation was neat and the distribution of rice + fish was perfect. The owners inside the shop were also so nice. I can't wait to start ordering weekly again. (:

We've been coming here for years and have nothing but great things to say. Just as others have pointed out, the value that Ryu offers is great. Always good quality fish and rice. The best part is the service! Parking is street, but always easy to come by. Please come visit this lovely find on Laurel street.

Amazing service and sushi! Nice quiet place on laurel street. Highly recommend for a dinner for two if you're a sushi lover

Delicious sushi for sure! For vegetable sushi (wife is veg) we got cucumber avocado crunch x2, vegetable tempura roll (changed it to be yam and avocado), eggplant roll and a veggie caterpillar roll - all amazing. Also got an agedashi tofu sans the bonito flakes - also solid. For fish, got spider roll and negihama maki. Only complaint was the spider roll was *really* tiny and had barely any tobiko on it. Prices were what you'd expect for downtown San Carlos but not unreasonable. We will be back!

Amazing sushi! Everything there is delicious. But they are only open a couple of hours and pick up only, so does take some planning. But if you want truly great sushi, it's worth it!

This is a nice little hole in the wall. When we arrived there was one other table already present at the restaurant so getting a table wasn't difficult. The food was great and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend the flaming rainbow roll. When we ordered we requested to leave out a certain ingredient from the dish due to dietary restrictions but when we got the food the ingredient was in the dish. Overall we enjoy our meal and would come back again!

I was looking for coffee but found this place. Decided to try their lobster roll and iced green tea. Glad I ate here.

Really great find! I feel like it hit all the major things you'd look for: taste, value, and service. We ordered the JT & roll, the flaming rainbow roll, and the combination dinner with beef sukiyaki and chicken katsu. The rolls def didn't skimp on fish and the chicken was nice and crunchy with some yummy katsu sauce on the side. The combination dinner surprised us with the amount of food given for ~$21. It was basically the size of 2 entrees. We sat near the register and overheard were lots of regulars picking up takeout orders. Made us happy to see this place have good business because the waitress / owner was so nice too.

Yesterday was our first time we came to that place. But It is surely not the last. We had a good time with the excellent service, with the superb meal and wine and with the decent cost. We will surely return there soon.

The husband and I were looking for a Japanese spot in the area and this was the only one opened in the awkward in between time of lunch and dinner (2:30pm). There was no one eating there when we arrived, except for the waitress who quickly moved to the back as we got situated. We decided to eat indoors since the only 2 small tables outdoors were directly in the beating sun. We ordered the sashimi combo and a few rolls. To be honest, nothing really stood out. The sashimi wasn't too fresh, and the rolls were average and on the small size. The waitress was really nice, but that was about it.
