Really a great and cozy place for delicious sushi and dinner. Very romantic and I would recommend it as a sensual dinner experience for that 3rd or 4th date! ?Food is priced around $10-20 a plate. I went with 3 others and we all got whatever we wanted and paid around $45-60 each with tip.Parking: Parking located behind the sushi restaurant! Area is blocked off and labeled "For customers only"
Really hits the spot on sushi. I like the dark wood atmosphere. The filet mignon kabob was quite good for a small beef fix while you have a bunch of fish.

Seiya is our go-to restaurant for high-quality Japanese food. My husband loves tuna tacos, and we always share a house salad and beef tataki, which is delicious. We also enjoyed a spicy tuna roll and a California roll. Everything was fantastic! The service is fantastic; we'll be back very soon!

First time dining and went to celebrate a birthday. We are all partial to Omakase type dining so we were all very excited to try Seiya. We were not disappointed and enjoyed the delicious food and service. All dishes were excellent, especially the nigiri omakase. We can't wait to go back.

The omakase at Seiya is amazing. We normally get the nigiri but got the sashimi this time. The chefs attention to detail, the fish quality and variety and the preparation are all exceptional. We are fortunate to have such a high quality sushi establishment in San Carlos. Miki the server is knowledgable, thoughtful and caring. Menu surprises include most robato grill items especially the pork belly and the corn. The mentaiko spaghetti with hokkaido scallops is a next level surprise. Seiya is our go to for a splurge date night.

The Spicy Hulk was the best - super light, and delicious. Also consider the Crunchy California, or third, the Crunchy Spicy Tuna. Skip the Great Balls of Fire.

Three of us had agedashi tofu, veggie&shrimp tempura, ebi sushi roll, seafood risotto, tea and beer. Everything was good - but the tempura and risotto were both memorable. We've eaten at dozens of Japanese restaurants in US/Japan/elsewhere - the tempura is as good as anywhere: crisp but light breading, not oily, perfect temperature. And the risotto was also just right - we've lived in Italy for 2 years: had great risottos there, but this was as good. A few years ago we didn't particularly like the risotto at Seiya, but will always order them now - adding a little cheese, nice mix of seafood has made it really special. And total bill for 3, including tax and tip, was just a bit over $100. Great food and value, in nice/quiet setting - Seiya is a favorite of ours.

Was very underwhelmed with the experience. The quality of the sashimi dish, for $35, was subpar at best. Fish texture felt old and stale. The server kept pushing the more expensive (~$60) sashimi dish, siting that one will be the "special fish" from Japan. I just flew back from Tokyo, so what I wanted was a reasonably priced, but high-quality sashimi. This is where this restaurant has gone wrong, IMO. Quality should be consistent throughout the menu, not just the high-priced items. Also, service was spotty, although it was early and the restaurant was almost empty, it was hard to get their attention and cooperation to get us reasonable seating!

I got the sashimi omakase and 3 rolls, salmon, tuna, and yellowtail. I got seated near the front so I wasn't able to really view inside. However the food was definitely above average and the service was fine, but I'd recommend getting more rolls than the omakase.
First time to Seiya or to Laurel St for that matter. Seiya captures that Tokyo vibe. Food, service, ambience were all great. We had the sashimi, some rolls, and a selection from the Robata Grill. Loved it all. We'll be back.

One of the most complete Japanese meals I've had in several years. The humble and very hard-working chef was trained by his uncle in Japan. A master chef who put the owner of Seiya through a hellish six year apprenticeship, the uncle provided tools that are on display in the mastery of Seiya's nigiri. One of the great gems on the Peninsula we are definitely going to become regulars.

They had chu-toro listed on the menu. What was served was definitely not that and it was a much leaner, cheaper cut. I suspect the re-labeled their normal maguro cut of tuna as chu-toro and jacked up the price.

Conveniently located in downtown San Carlos. The decor is really beautiful on the inside. The food is very hit or miss for me. The "tacos" would have been a lot better with about 1/4 the amount of salsa on top. The grilled scallops were so overcooked. The risotto is really a standout. It is so savory and delicious. I would be back for that but not the rest.

Our appetizer never appeared. We asked about it when the entrées arrived - the server simply asked if we want to cancel it. I had to ask for part of my order three times (shrimp tempura). We ordered dessert (cheesecake). It took twenty-five to be served. No apologies given. When I got the bill, the appetizer was still on it. This is an expensive sushi restaurant. Service should be (it was not that crowded/busy). Not going back anytime soon. entrées
