This is a very cozy and authentic Japanese sushi restaurant. The chefs are very nice and the food is so delicious. Highly recommend.

Best Sushi ever. The blue fin tuna is excellent. I always start with sea urchin w/quail egg. All the rolls and assorted Sushi and Sashimi are off the chart. I highly recommend Malulu Sushi to everyone. —Bob.

We Love this Place! We were introduced to it by some good friends a few years ago it’s been our go to ever since. We eat sushi about once a week For about the last two decades. They offer a great variety of fresh fish, and the service is always on point.

Felt ignored the entire time. The kid who was a waiter never checked on us. Never asked how it was. Didn't ask if we needed anything. Not friendly. Mumbled. Not approachable.Took 20 minutes to get the check let alone find him (he was in the back and the chef was chatting with the only other customer) so we couldn't even get help.No Wasabi with anything.Food was decent but the atmosphere was cramped and tense and barron.

Thank you for Great Service and the best sushi in Orange County! Been going here for years now and travelled to Japan multiple of times and confidently can say Malulu Sushi has very delicious fish!

While not in any rush, we showed for our Google assisted reservation on time and were seated promptly. After that, the service came to a crawl. It took 90 minutes to complete our dining experience at a very small sushi place. The food came out at all different times for our party of just four and even when the place was only a quarter full it took 15-20 minutes to get additional dishes ordered. The only reason we can surmise is it is due to making a reservation while everyone else seemed to be walk-ins. The walk-ins who showed 10-20 minutes after we were seated were out of there 30 minutes before we were.Such a bummer because we were hoping this would become our new sushi spot. The head chef was more interested in talking up diners at the counter than making sure all guests were having a good experience. Food was good but the service might keep us away for good.

We had some really good sushi here. The place is small, and welcoming. The sushi chef Hide is amazing. He knows how to put together some great fish. Such a pleasure discovering this amazing place. Service was very quick and attentive as well.

Saying Haba-Haba when entering the place to the chef will automatically grant you smile in return and sense that you are a regular customer that you will eventually become as this is one of the best sushi places around.Make sure to try the deep-fried shrimp, yellow tail sashimi and wagyu sushi. If you are considering sake - try daisan.Chef name is Kas and he is from Japan so he does it really authentic. This is a one love sushi restaurant?

Passing through, stopped by for sushi. Food was ok, however the service was exceptionally slow. Looked like it was understaffed. Soy sauce stains on the wallpaper by the tables against the wall was not impressive.

EXCELLENT FOOD service, staff and location are outstanding. SUPER AFFORDABLE!!! Sashimi Roll, spicy tuna hand roll and the lobster roll was out of this world. Highly highly highly recommended It's a small family owned business. One of kind .

Have lived in San Clemente for 27 years and frankly never tried Malulu Sushi because its sign just said "Sushi" so I was skeptical. My friends Cheryl and Stella meet there for dinner once a month but I had been unable to join them until tonight. Delighted with the small, unpretentious strip mall restaurant with great, attentive staff, fresh sashimi and delectable sushi! Malulu Sushi is in what I call the Dollar Tree Plaza off Avenida Pico west of I-5 The cherry salmon sashimi is to write home about - ask for thick cut portions! Worth the extra $. The Kalikimaka roll (no rice) - labeled a December 2023 special- was delicious. The ice cold sake was refreshing! The fresh sashimi offering chalk board showed halibut and red snapper, which I'll try next time. Pass on the tempura. Lots of other great menu offerings. Will post future reviews on additional menu items we try...definitely recommend!

Best sushi I’ve ever had. And I’ve been all over the world, including Okinawa and New York.
