Great views and experience atop the Carté hotel.
Had my cousin visiting from out of town so decided to check out the hotel offerings. The rooftop bar and lounge had some amazing views and a giant big screen tv that is great for watching the game or even some movies.
Specialty Paloma drink was unique and delicious, while the tuna tostada and bone marrow were the perfect light bites to complement the drinks.
Came to dine here with my friends few days ago , such a beautiful vibe. The food was horrible on top of that it took more than 40 min for them to just bring the steaks when there was literally not more then 3-4 other guests . They literally deserve Minu's stars for the food but gave 2 stars just for my server , they were all really amazing and full of happy vibe. I would suggest for some drinks, watching any games and hanging out. But you really should avoid the food. Eat before or after because the food will ruin your mood for sure.
I love the atmosphere here, its a great sophisticated hang out, I hope much doesn't change while its under new management. However, they have already changed the food menu, which in my opinion was what helped this rooftop stand out from the rest and now the food choices are... meh...
Very slow service. Expect to wait 30+ minutes for your food. The hotel is currently undergoing renovations. The staff is not super polite. Bottom line go somewhere else. You’re in Little Italy, and there are a lot of better options. The roof rooftop is nice but it’s not worth the poor service and long wait
I got the steak sandwich and the steak was good but difficult to eat as a sandwich. I had to remove it and eat it separately. I should’ve just gone somewhere else and got a steak. I was also one of the only people there and it was 7:30 PM, so that should’ve been my first sign to go somewhere else.
Also, I’m staying at the hotel and have a credit for food, but it’s still not worth it due to the lack of service and quality of food
Recently visited with my mother and cousin, hoping to enjoy a nice day with good drinks and atmosphere. Unfortunately, we experienced neither. The service was extremely slow, despite the place not being busy. The staff did not seem welcoming and came across as bothered, which made us feel unwelcome. After receiving our drinks, we were never checked on again. When I tried to speak with staff, I was ignored, which was quite disappointing. Overall, it was a strange experience, and I’m not eager to return.
I had to fly to San Diego last minute in the middle of a family vacation in Hawaii. Work related, of course. Good news is I found Above Ash Social. The setting is really cool - rooftop in the middle of a little Italy, San Diego. Giant rooftop area with a giant TV playing most popular sporting event of the day. But the reason for this post is the food. I ordered the apple arugula salad with steak (regular). A few too many reasons for my liking. Especially since the apple already gives a sweet tone, but other than that, it was spectacular. My way to recommended a cab that was excellent. Ordered the dressing on the side as always to avoid a potential overdressing disaster! Good job guys! I’ll be back!
Made a reservation for 5pm Sunday. There were several times lots open after that too. We get a text to confirm our reservation and when we get there, they close at 3. No one reached out to us or anything..
Great ambience. Modern looking restaurant and bar on a rooftop overlooking downtown San Diego - you really can't beat that! We had Mother's Day brunch here around 1 PM. There weren't many other people in the restaurant. However, the service was fairly slow. I ordered bottomless mimosas, and I kept having to ask her for another one. When our food finally did come the eggs looked like they had been cooked 30 minutes ago and sat under a heating lamp for way too long. They forgot about half of my husband‘s order and we had to re-order it. it wasn't terrible mainly because we had mimosas and a beautiful setting, but the kids definitely started getting agitated.
This is a horribly managed establishment. We get there and reach the 16th floor where it's located to find that it's closed. We called the phone number which by the way everyone does not go to the restaurant, it goes to the concierge down stairs which tells you “oh, they decided to open at 12 today so yeah.” What kind of customer service is that, let alone why allow anyone to make a reservation for 11. This shows the pretentious environment and obvious 2 star reviews this restaurant only gets. Horrible place, horrible service. DO NOT BE FOOLED.
Our server, Jonathan was very nice, but the overall experience was disappointing. The mix for the signature cocktails was sad, especially for $17.00 each. The Margherita pizza was not even on the level of Dominoes or Little Cesars. The views were lovely, but even the "inside" seating was open air on top, and with the door open. The heaters helped, but clearly this is more of a sports bar for hotel guests to watch television, and restaurant was just an afterthought.

Cool spot with good city views. Expect to spend $60-$75 per person for dinner and drinks
Was unaware they aren't open on Mondays. The doors say they are open. It even let us make a reservation for today.
For the price the food was not elevated. The poke bowl had hard and crunchy rice. Service was nice. The open air space was freezing even with the heaters - a jacket wasn't enough. So be prepared to freeze.
Despite no one being in the restaurant, the service was slow, the order was incorrect and had to ask for service multiple times
Made a reservation, received confirmation and reminder day of, arrived and found out they were closed! Front desk at Carte Hotel said they are closed Mon-Wed. Very frustrating!!!
