“****Get here very early, no reservations, and lines start 30-45 mins before the place opens*****We heard this place was on the Michelin guide and decided to give it a try. We came on a Monday morning 30 mins before they opened and were surprised to see a line already forming. We ended up waiting for a table, no longer than 20 mins, but it was definitely worth the wait!!We love the vibe of this place, very playful with the decorations, and the energetic and funny staff. The food was amazing, with a very unique breakfast menu we had a hard time choosing, but ended up getting the steak and eggs and the Khachapuri. Steak was cooked perfectly, and the Khachapuri was a unique twist on breakfast that i really enjoyed! The drinks were also top-notch. We got the carmel latte and a matcha latteThe place is relatively small, so if you do not want to wait for a table, you can opt for seats at the bar, which are just as good with some more decorations and view of little Italy. Would highly recommend and lookong forward to. Going back when we visit Cali.”

They had good selection of sakes of which we tried one and enjoyed. The only reason for the 4 stars was for a rather limited yakitory selections. “Very popular and well loved fine dining but casual Little Italy institution. Beautiful expansive horseshoe bar. Of the four of us, I was the only critic of the food. The ingredients are top-notch, but my salad was too acidic. My braised beef cheeks, a generous portion, were oddly crisped but tender on the inside. The broth was, surprise, acidic. Previously, I had the Branzino wrapped in spec (bacon), which was too salty in that it obliterated the taste of the branzino. Then again, everyone else enjoyed their meals.”

Il Posto 2145 Fern St, San Diego Italian • $$

“Visited this spot first night in San Diego, my girlfriend and I were seated right away on a Monday night. The ambience gives a modern vibe with chill and slow r&b/classy music. Our server checked in with us multiple times while another server made sure our cups were never empty or close to empty. Customer service A+. When I read the other reviews I expected the food to live up to the hype of the reviews people left, and the food did not disappoint one bit. Authentic Italian food is the perfect way to describe the food. The diavola pizza was spicy, cheese and tomato sauce was cooked perfect, crust and border was light and crisp, salame was tasteful, 10/10. For the calamari and shrimp, they were fried lightly and rated fresh. I would say the marinara different from most places, I don't really know how to describe it but I would prefer other marinaras at other Italian restaurants. For the penne cremosa, I enjoyed the penne pasta itself as it was not too flimsy or soft, instead the penne noodles were a little more rough. The white cream sauce was not over cooked, not too creamy, just right. However, there is a lot of mushroom in the dish so if you are not big on mushroom it will be a bit overwhelming lol. Not pictured which my girlfriend ordered was the tagliatelle with arrabbiata sauce. I'm not a big red sauce guy, but tasting her pasta I would order that myself. It had a little kick of spice in it and the flavor and seasoning in the sauce was just so appetizing. I would 100% come back to this restaurant and I 100% recommend this restaurant to any new comers and visitors like myself. They definitely deserve 5 stars for not only their authentic food but exceptional customer service.”

“First visit to Wormwood and it was an excellent culinary experience. It was a bit loud in the dining room and it is not a cheap dinner date but the service was phenomenal and the food and drinks were, for the most part, delectable. Tonight we ordered a farmers loaf of bread to share which came out steaming hot and accompanied by a delicious butter. We also ordered the French Onion dish that made my eyes roll to the back of my head. Let’s suffice to say I could have just ordered a couple of those French Onion apps and been perfectly content without needing a main dish. Nonetheless, our party ordered the Sea Bass, Chicken and the mushroom pasta dishes as mains. Everyone was happy with their meal and the plating was beautiful as you can see in the pictures. Overall it was a great meal - maybe not a regular date night sort of place but worth it for an occasional splurge.”

Every single thing is vegan and gluten free, but you would never know because it is all so flavorful and delicious. As I was eating the Banh Mi sandwich I couldn’t believe the bread was gluten free, but our lovely server confirmed that it was a homemade recipe that took over 2 years to perfect. Many other items are made from scratch in house as well! The customer service is phenomenal as well, everyone is so kind and we were treated to complimentary desserts which were to die for! Takeout Restaurants

Osteria Cotto e Mangiato 702 Ash St, San Diego Italian • $$
702 Ash St, San Diego

“The menu isnt extensive but has classic pasta and starter dishes. We started with the classica bruscetta and buschetta prosciutto & fichi, and the classica bruschetta was my favorite. The freshness of the tomatoes and flavor of the pesto was impeccable. We tried the cheese wheel pasta that comes with special pasta of the day (gnocchi with mushrooms and truffle) tossed in a cheese wheel and served in a pan. It was on the heavier, creamier and cheesier side and i would recommend it for those who are looking for a ooey gooey dish of pasta. Our server recommended the stuffed lobster and shrimp tortelli pasta. The sauce is creamy (but not as creamy as the cheese wheel pasta) and is made with tomatoes. The dish is topped with a big ball of burrata. We tried the espresso martini and cosmopolitan. The espresso martini had more of a strong coffee than bold liquor flavor, but the cosmopolitan was a little sweet and boozy. Overall, it was a solid meal and be prepared for a food coma afterwards. The interior is beautiful with wine bottles, paintings and pictures hanging on the wall. Street parking is the way to go. Our server was friendly, and the portions are generous for its price point.”

“Ciccia Osteria is a gem of authentic Italian cuisine in the heart of Barrio Logan. The chefs, Mario and Francesca, use recipes from Northern Italy and pair them with exquisite wines. They even bake their own panettone, a traditional Christmas cake. The restaurant has a cozy and charming atmosphere, with food made with love. However, parking can be tricky, so I recommend taking an Uber. They accept walk-ins, but make sure to dress warmly in winter, as they only have patio dining. The menu has a variety of dishes to suit every taste, but my personal favorite is the mushroom flan. It is creamy, savory, and simply delicious. I also enjoyed the milanese veal, which was tender and crispy. The smoky old-fashioned cocktail and the roccotta olive oil spread for the fresh bread were also amazing. And of course, I could not resist their lasagne, which was rich and satisfying.Ciccia Osteria is my new go-to place for Italian food in San Diego. I can’t wait to go back and try more of their dishes. If you are looking for a genuine and delightful Italian experience, you should definitely check it out.Ciccia Osteria has earned a Bib Gourmand designation from the Michelin Guide. “It was just a beautiful, tasty, artful experience. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and feels straight out of Japan. The staff are attentive and kind. The reservation system is annoying, but once you get in it makes sense. They have a tiny seating capacity and I believe that's critical to the quality of their food. You have to get the full 2hr omakase. It's an incredible journey from start to finish. I've had sushi all over the world, this is some of the best I've ever tasted. If you sit at the bar (which you must try and do) you can watch their three sushi chefs prepare the fish right in front of you. If you're not used to Japanese flavors and textures, definitely come with an open mind! Most of the pieces they serve aren't the norm in American Japanese restaurants.I went for my birthday and the chef pulled a guitar out of nowhere and serenaded Happy Birthday with the staff. My boyfriend and I love Azuki and it's our favorite sushi place in San Diego, so he was so sweet to book a reservation here to surprise me on my birthday. If you didn't know, Kinme is an extension of Azuki and it specializes in Omakase. If you're a fan of Azuki, or if you just love sushi in general, you need to try this place!! We had so much fun and experienced new fish that we have never tried and we were so so full afterwards. My favorites were the wagyu tartar puff pastry and the braised wagyu. The scallop with uni on top also blew me away. The nigiri was outstanding. Every bite had me closing my eyes and I really just didn't want the sushi to stop coming. The service was amazing and everyone was so attentive. I ordered a hot tea and immediately after I finished my pot I was asked if I wanted more hot water. The chefs were very friendly and asked us repeatedly if we enjoyed the previous dish (which we always nodded excitedly). Right when you come in the ambiance is very relaxing and there's more than enough space between you and the people next to you. At the end, they gave us a physical menu of all the dishes they served us, which I thought was a very thoughtful touch and a cute souvenir to remember my 21st birthday dinner. “I love trying out new brunch places and this one did not disappoint! Located in North Park— street parking only so just account time for that. Our party of 5 didn’t have a reservation and we expected to wait a bit. Luckily though we only waited about 10-15 minutes at 11am on a Saturday! The place itself is very cute, decorated with bright wood panelling and a large purple art piece by the check in booth. There was a decent amount of 2-4 person tables inside and on the patio. It looked like tables can be pushed together for parties of 6, maybe 8.Our server was attentive, helpful, and very friendly! It took us a bit to decide what to order since all of them sounded appetizing. Food came out fairly quickly despite the busy Saturday rush.Food:-Ube Cold Foam Matcha ($7.50): aesthetically pleasing and tasted so good! It wasn’t too sweet either and that’s without making any modifications to it.-The GOAT Sandwich ($16.50): I subbed with turkey instead of ham and it was delicious! Served with large pieces of potatoes-Waffle Churro Sticks ($16): shared with the table. Four “strips” of waffles served with a small bowl of fruit, jalapeño-blackberry sauce, and maple cream cheese for toppings. Go get this! The rest of our party ordered the Madi Wrap ($17), Oklahoma Onion Smash Burger ($18), and Chilaquiles Verdes ($17). They also ordered the Banana Bread Latte ($6.50) and Brown Butter Latte ($6.50) Everyone was satisfied and enjoyed their food.I’d love to come back and try out other food and the Tiramisu Espresso Martini!”

“I had a croissant, some French Toast, and a latte here. I really liked the French Toast! It was covered with pine nuts, and was drenched in syrup (which I was kinda surprised by, since I thought the pine not coating was going to prevent the today from soaking up the syrup). The nuts added some nice texture, and the syrup was a good amount of sweet. It was kinda hard to cut into, so I just kind of had to bite into the toast slices (maybe that's intended, though). The croissant and the latte were decent; nothing too eye opening for them but they I liked them a decent amount (I think the croissant is maybe good, with something else that is more savory than what I got). “TL;DR amazing rustic decor with equally amazing new American-style food to match I came here on a weekday to hang out with some friends and was recommended by the attendant in their adjoining coworking space that the chicken sandwiches were the choice to make and it definitely didn't disappoint. Keeping it short and simple, I rarely ever crave new American cuisine since it's a hit or miss and some are good but most are mediocre with a price tag that isn't palatable, however, Bivouac was a clear exception The chicken sandwich was great, it was juicy and tender on the inside with a nice crispy exterior. The bun was lightly toasted inside and the cheese paired with the arugula and pickled onions were a blissful pair. The pickled onions cut through the fattiness and the arugula added a nice slightly bitter flavor contrast that I enjoyed Food aside, the decor was also well aligned with there themed location next door, the seating we had was a swing in a c-shape and moved all the c-shaped bench together which added a bit of thrill. It felt similar to a childhood experience and felt like one of those swings you'd have in your grandparent's yard or something similar Overall the setting and food were something I would come back to, if the interior was the only hallmark of this place I would likely not come back but the food from everyone I was with seemed to suit their taste buds well and equally fill everyone up”
