“Came here for happy hour and sat at the bar.(+) Cocktails were delicious - Kingfisher Spritz, Golden Hour, and Favored Winds.(+) Happy hour salt and pepper fish was very good.(+) House made egg noodles - super good(+) Wagyu smoked beef rib - really good.( ) Service was nice but we got asked how we were doing by like three different people repeatedly and it got a bit tiring.(+) Vibe is cool. Nice bar, ambience is really nice.“
“I had the best 2 meals of my trip at Thanh Tinh Chay! I got diagnosed with celiac disease 3 years ago and haven’t had great Vietnamese food since, but this place is incredible. Every single thing is vegan and gluten free, but you would never know because it is all so flavorful and delicious. As I was eating the Banh Mi sandwich I couldn’t believe the bread was gluten free, but our lovely server confirmed that it was a homemade recipe that took over 2 years to perfect. Many other items are made from scratch in house as well! The customer service is phenomenal as well, everyone is so kind and we were treated to complimentary desserts which were to die for! Especially the creme brûlée! I wish I lived in San Diego so I could eat here weekly, but I’ll be back every time I visit!“
“Located inside food court of a supermarket, this is such a hidden gem even expected my standard as a Vietnamese. The best authentic, high quality and affordable food I've ever had outside of Vietnam! Every single dish I've tried on the menu was excellent! Highly recommended!“
“This was super yummy. I've never had the skillets here, but the flower paper dishes are delicious. Having them in little Saigon in Orange County, this is the best spot that is close to that caliber here in San Diego. I definitely recommend.“
“Very positive first experience. Chicken wings (salt & pepper) were tasty and crunchy. Egg rolls were deliciously light. Banh mi and chicken pho were 10/10 - will definitely be back to have these again. Great quality food. Service from Christie was prompt and professional, and her recommendations were a hit! Atmosphere is clean and music is good.“
“Wow! Found this place by coincidence, but can't wait to come back. We ordered a Mom's Pho to eat there and a Filet Mignon Pho to go. Both were very delicious, even the to go one that we heated up later at home. The broth was exquisite and no MSG! We also had the grilled pork spring rolls and the grilled pork sandwich, and they were both yummy and devoured in short time. The best part of this place is definitely the chef and owner, Tam. He took time to come out and welcome us and talked about how he prepares his dishes. You can tell that he has a passion for his food and it comes out in all the flavors of his dishes. Thank you Tam and can't wait to come and try more dishes.“
“Still great food but a much smaller menu in their new location. I haven't found a single menu item I wouldn't have again. A variety of vegan food items are available with quick service. The ONLY downside is the LOCATION with a small, cramped parking lot. Narrow parking slots with multiple businesses make parking a serious challenge. Only saw one handicap parking spot available.“
“I can see why they call this Aces! It is definitely the top of the deck when it comes to Louisiana boil complete with potatoes, corn, crawfish, shrimp, clams, mussels and the most delicious broth, this was a meal to remember. Also got gumbo which did not disappoint!“
“This hidden gem is located in Barrio Logan close by 28th street. Great customer service. It was such a comforting family friendly environment. We ordered the chicken banh mi, rice noodles with bbq chicken & shrimp plus egg roll combo plate and 6 crispy egg rolls. Everything tasted delicious , freshly made and very authentic food. Nice portion sizes and extremely affordable. Must try spot“
“Very impressive Banh Mi sandwich here at Bale French Sandwiches! Their price is unbeatable, all the Banh mi are under $6.5, and their size aren’t too small. It’s like a 6 inch sandwich, perfect for one person. The sandwich has a lot of stuff inside, it’s filled with veggies and meat. I ordered a BBQ pork and a beef Banh mi, both are awesome. I highly recommend this place, plus their service is so friendly!“
“Our go-to place with friends and family. They have a lot of good dishes for everyone and can accommodate large groups. My little one loves the calamari appetizer, my other child always gets the Pho and my favorite dish is the vermicelli bowls. The staff is super friendly. It's the perfect spot for a casual and enjoyable meal.“
“VERY GOOD PHOOOOOOOOOOVery good.Better than any pho that I had in Pittsburgh. The sprouts were super fresh and the portion, oh my, was definitely filling.Ordering was a little bit pushy but I think it might because they were about to get super busy. We went in 1 minute after they opened (noon).Broth was so good that i drank it all.“
“wow wow wow! I came here yesterday and it will now be my go-to place when I am in Mira Mesa! Talk about express, I was nervous that I wasn't going to make an appointment in the afternoon, but chose to eat lunch here anyways. I was in and out within 45 minutes. You sign in outside and wait for someone to bring you to your table. Right when you sit down, the menus are there. Within a few minutes, the waiter came asking for our orders. I urgently scrolled through ordered pho and egg rolls. A cart came with our waters and drinks. about 5 minutes after that our eggs rolls came. About 5 minutes after that, all our orders came and there was 4 of us. By the time we finished eating, we had only been there for about 30-40 minutes. We would of stayed longer but felt like we needed to leave as they wanted to clear our table for the next group. If you are short on time and want a delicious meal, come here! I have never had such fast service, the food was hot and delicious, drinks were continuously getting filled. Normally, start to finish would be about 1.5 hrs to 2hrs, we were out and full in 45 minutes. The price alone is another reason to come here, way cheaper than other places i have gone to. Ample seating and they have it down with seating arrangements. I can't wait to come back!“
“Been missing banh cuon and stumbled across this place. They have a limited menu and specialize in banh cuon dishes. I ordered the special order banh cuon plate which comes with three different types of meat, side of veges (bean sprouts, cucumbers, and herbs) and sauce. The banh cuon was good but a bit too peppery. The restaurant was hard to find but its located in the corner plaza with a supermarket. Service was quick and my food was ready in less than 10 minutes.“
“The owner was very kind and I came with my family even though I asked for takeout, the man told me to go with my wife so I wouldn't worry, he would take the food to the car, nice action on his part and everything we brought was very delicious, thank you ?“
“For only $2 each their bread is a must, their bread is like Costco chicken, the cheapest in the area but it will made you order different things and end up paying for more lol. Smoothie are all good personally I like the water melon n their mango. Bahn mi sandwiches are to try for, I like bbq pork.“
“Such a great experience. Best pho in SD. The fried food is always crispy af. The veggies are always fresh and never wilted. The broth is always flavorful and piping hot.At times, the restaurant can get busy and the staff certainly wears multiple hats. Don't let this bug you or pull away from your experience overall experience. I've found it only adds to the fun and is a part of supporting a family owned, small business. The boss lady who is in charge is a great host and always makes sure her guests are taken care of. I haven't found a better pho place in the US.“
“Having food allergies and ordering to go food can be so dangerous for me, I'm SO thankful I finally came into this place. It's absolutely delicious, everything is fresh and even though I declined sauce, the woman said "oh, u have to have sauce with it, it makes a huge difference" I informed her about my food allergies and something had to be left out and they made me special sauce, and it's DELICIOUS. I keep coming here, because it's on the way home ?? BUT I also want to mention that I have taken a gargantuan amount of orders for doordash customers, obviously it's good. I believe 81-89 are vegan options, which is greatly appreciatedVegetarian options: 81-89“
“Food was great, the Thai tea was cheap and very fresh, came with free salad and ice cream, and the ambiance was also very pleasing. But most of all the service and quality of food was outstanding. Would recommend this top tier restaurant to people looking for a good asian fusion dining experience.Dietary restrictions: I got a drunken noodle platter but realized that it had nuts, which I am allergic to. They exchanged the plate without hesitation or charge, and they were nice about it too. Great service.“
“Filet Mignon pho. The broth is delicate and flavorful. The addition of the basil and jalapeño add even more spicy notes. I appreciate the meat is tender. They were extremely busy with takeout and my server was still very attentative and friendly. I'm grateful for such effort in service to please so many customers. I will definitely come again!“
“Sipz has been around SD for ages. Think I ate there for first time in 2002-ish.Always consistent vegetarian Asian food. Lots of fake meat and vegan deserts and It’s all pretty good. The orange chicken is exactly what you want in orange “chicken”. Sweet, chewy and completely unhealthy. The veg pho and crispy chow mein are solid as well. Is it the best Thai, Chinese, Japanese food…well no. There’s plenty better out there. For someone who is a strict vegan though there’s few other places that have such a large menu of options. Oh and the veg sushi on the weekends is great.Vegetarian options: All vegetarian, mostly vegan“
“I love Mien Trung whole heartedly and no, I do not have any relation to the owners. I am so passionate about this restaurant, it is my one recommendation to everyone and will be my first meal out of a metaphorical prison and my last meal. When I have a birthday I eat Mien Trung. When I have a celebration- drivers license passing, exams passing, out of the hospital... you name it. So many folks have never tried Vietnamese foods other than pho and there are soooo many more foods the culture offers!! Bun bo hue and banh bot loc are my favorite foods in the world. Specifically Mien Trung's dishes. My every event that needed catering if i had the say, it would always be Mien Trung. and even if it wasn't my say that decided the catering, my family would get Mien Trung probably ~80 of our family birthdays!! Banh bot loc, bun bo hue, xoi if you want dessert, coconut if you want drink. Trusttttt favorite food + favorite restaurant!!!“
“Best bánh mì I’ve ever had - the bread isn’t too hard where it scratches the roof of your mouth. They don’t skimp with the meat and veggies and everything is so juicy and flavorful. I got this for my cousins from LA and they said it’s the best they ever had too. Top tier bánh mì - I haven’t tried anything else but plan to!“
“I came here the other day with my family for lunch (but it was basically my breakfast)! I had a small bowl of Hu Tieu Mi Nuouc: it contained shrimp, ground pork, bbq pork, liver, squid, fish balls... green onions, celery, fried shallots~ this was really tasty and it came out nice and steaming! I loved the shrimp, not over cooked and super clean. Everything was really tasty, and it was even tastier with the squeeze of citrus. Personally the tips of the celery (given on the plate with the bean sprouts) were too bitter for me. I liked the sliced celery 'as is' in the soup. I think if I come here again I'd order the hu tieu - dry noodle rather than with the broth. My mom had one of the dry noodle ones and it came with a "ragu" tomatoey sauce with the ground pork and it added a lovely sweet flavor to the bowl. In addition, it was nice to sip the broth on the side. To drink, everyone was given water with lemon. And then I ordered ca phe sua da. The iced coffee was light and strong. If you know Vietnamese coffee, I'm sure you know what I mean. This one had a good...vanilla type of flavor to it? It was really nice to drink. In addition, my mom ordered the fresh pennyworth drink with mung bean (rau ma tuoi) and it was sooo smooth. Very nice to drink. Not too sweet and not bitter at all. 10/10! I liked it, reminded me of the one I had in Vietnam. The workers here were really kind and spoke good English. They checked up on you to make sure the food is good. And when I ordered my Hu Tieu they confirmed with me if everything in the description for the bowl was ok for me to eat. So it's pretty customizable! The service was fast and food was delicious. There's a good amount of seating inside this restaurant! I can't say much about the other items on the menu, but I HIGHLY recommend that you come and try one of the Hu Tieu!!“
“Started the day with an amazing massage at the Holiday Spa just down the road from here and got some intensely delicious pho right after. As soon as you walk into this restaurant, you get hit with the aromas of the broth. Service was super fast too!The pho was perfect and the beef we got was sizzling. Fatty and delicious. Everything was so flavorful! It’s the perfect day trip in Point Loma! Will def be backVegetarian options: We didn’t get vegetarian dishes but there was a ton of tofu options“
“They were pretty nice and were patient. My friend is kinda slow at ordering haha. But it was good pho and a very fair amount. The meat was like 5/10, pho itself 8/10, noodles 8/10, restaurant 8/10.Would of been nice to have some mint, or some kind of flavor like mint and lemon in the water. Ya know just so it stands out.I’ve had the black bean fish that was also very good but a little more pricey.“
“The culinary experience provided by this establishment is truly remarkable. The Pho broth, in particular, stands out as exceptional, surpassing any other we have encountered. It is evident that this establishment experiences a significant influx of customers during both lunch and dinner hours. Furthermore, free 2 hours parking, which adds to its appeal. The service provided by the staff is characterized by warmth and friendliness, creating a welcoming ambiance for patrons.“
“I ordered for pickup. I got the chicken pho, fries, and a rainbow roll. I’m very pleased with everything! The only thing I was not expecting was the fries were not plain…they were a little sweet and had fried garlic. Which was absolutely delicious! But I’d specify that on the menu just in case someone isn’t a garlic lover.Thank you! Will come again.“
“Love this mom and pop noodle spot. Owner / chef always got a smile on and comes out to ask how is everything. I always get the phnom penh noodles dry style. Absolutely love the pork bone soup you get on the side. This spot is definitely a hidden gem with an at home feeling. Service may be slow when its busy but you got to appreciate their hustle for only 2 people working!“
“Hoai Hue is truly a gem in the City Heights restaurant scene. Specializing in central Vietnamese food, you will be able to experience so much more of what Vietnamese cuisine has to offer, aside from the typically known Pho or Banh Mi. There is a parking lot next to the restaurant, but it can be quite tricky scoring a spot on this busy section of El Cajon Blvd. It gets packed at the restaurant during peak meal times, so make sure you give yourself some time to get seated. Trust me, it’s definitely worthwhile! Hoai Hue is a medium sized restaurant, very clean, well lit.If you’re not too familiar with Vietnamese food, not to mention central Vietnam’s cuisine, their menu has photos to help guide your eyes. Also, the servers are all fluent in English so they can help you select from all the dishes they have. Hailing from Saigon, central Vietnamese cuisine was not what I grew up with, but have had a few dishes and variations here and there. I just love Vietnamese food in general so this restaurant was nothing short of delivering. My family was visit San Diego and wanted to see how the Vietnamese food here was like. I remembered how much I had enjoyed this restaurant, so I took them here.We got 4 orders of each item to share family style. The Banh Beo was smooth and tasty. The Banh Nam was soft and had the perfect ratio of ground shrimp to rice cake. The Banh Loc was a a hit with everyone as well. The Banh Canh Tom Cua was just delicious. The broth was well balanced and they are very generous with the extremely tasty house-made shrimp balls. Everything was so authentically delicious that my family added a bowl of Bun Bo Hue at the end just to try it, even though we were all stuffed!Just writing this review is giving me cravings for their food! So if you like Vietnamese cuisine, then do yourself a favor and head over to Hoai Hue and treat yourself. You deserve it!“
“Food is great the people are friendly it’s a dive kind of shop but the food is great the only thing that would be better is if they take card it’s cash only and ATM is across the street in the grocery if they had an ATM in there it would be awesome.“
“I always like coming here. The staff is familiar and helpful, polite, and friendly. The food is generally great — the pho is what you may expect, but the egg-rolls are always very fresh and crunchy (highly recommend using the sauce and peanut sauce because they are so hot when they arrive).“
“My mum and I love this little restaurant! Bún riêu and bún măng vịt are always our go to along with chả and their lemongrass sausage. The ginger dipping sauce is delicious! Service is good here and it has a chill atmosphere. One of our favorite places to eat in San Diego.“
“My dad has been bringing me here ever since I was a kid. This place started my love for Pho and Vermicelli dishes. The food is always exceeding expectations. Staff is super nice and the atmosphere is great.Parking: A lot of parking spaces, though they can be quite “small”“
“Some of the better pho I’ve found in San Diego outside of “little Saigon” in the City Heights neighborhood. The broth is rich and complex, the aromatics are fresh, and the meat is good quality. Service is also great here. Food comes out in just a few minutes. I enjoyed the Vietnamese coffee as well, they serve it in a drip over condensed milk, which is kind of fun to watch. Definitely recommended when seeking authentic pho in town.“
“Absolutely amazing experience, I chanced on this place walking to the trolley station, and let me tell you, I lucked out. Everyone there is welcoming and helpful and the atmosphere is great. The food is sooooo good. I had the tofu stir fry and might have it again tomorrow because I was so appalled. My tummy is rumbling right now just thinking about it.“
“Omg I love this banh mi; it is one of the biggest banh mi I've ever had, there so many meat inside and sooo good, and it is very cheap too. I would love to return and bring all of my friends because I also enjoy the environment at the store. It's very warm and comfy.“
“What is lacking in interior was made up in my meal! Stir fry chicken & vegetables was delicious! The lean cuts of CB sicken reminded me of PF Chang’s yet the price was much more affordable. The sauce was equally delicious with great amounts of healthy vegetables steamed perfectly! I can’t wait to return to try her Pho.“
“I've been going to the DT one for over 10 years, and recently had this location since I moved to the area. It is just as delicious & comfortable as DT. I could drink their broth all day long and their calamari is my favorite in San Diego. Always a good & satisfying time when I go!“
“I've driven past Pho Van's neon light sign quite a few times when venturing into City Heights for Vietnamese food, but have never eaten there until now. It's easy to miss the sign on the side of the restaurant, advising of Parking In The Rear, as you drive past the alley right before the restaurant. There are also lots of street parking all around if you miss the rear parking lot.The restaurant was pretty much full house, with 2 small tables available when we went for lunch. The ladies are quickly dotting around the restaurant to take orders, run food and clear tables. They are very helpful with any questions or requests you may have. The man working seemed a bit confused the whole time he was trying to help out the whole time we were there for lunch. As it was a cold day, my partner and I were craving noodle soup, but something other than Pho. There is a nice selection of other noodle soups offered, aside from Pho here. I ordered Hu Tieu My Tho (#86) with Shrimp, Pork, Fishballs & Imitation Crab. It usually comes with glass noodles, but changed it to the wide flat rice noodles. My partner ordered the Bo Kho (#62) which is the beef stew with wide flat rice noodles.Service was good, except for an odd situation with the confused male worker that I mentioned. He brought over the Bo Kho my partner order, however it had skinny rice noodles and not the wide flat rice noodles ordered. He then told us that they made a mistake and put skinny noodles and asked if we were okay with that. We looked at him with confusion, not knowing how to respond, as we've never been asked if we would be okay with a mistake that the restaurant makes. Before we were able to tell him that we want what we ordered, one of the ladies yelled to him that it was for a different table and he just picked it back up and gave it to the the correct customer. As the "mistake" was resolved on its own, I didn't hold this against them for my review. Now, if it wasn't for someone else and he expected us to tell him if we'd be okay with their mistake, then I would have had an issue with their service.Usually when we order Pho, it comes out really quickly, but these noodle soup dishes took a lot longer than usual, but that's okay. The large size was indeed large and we couldn't finish our bowls. They sure don't skimp at this restaurant and are very generous with the proteins and offerings that accompany the noodle soups! Large at many other restaurants are about the same as the small size here. Both dishes were good and we got our hot noodle soup fix for sure!I will definitely be back for more meals in the near future and will have to try their Pho next time!“
“The fried rice and cashew chicken were amazing. This will be my go to for fried rice in the area. However, the mango chicken was terrible. Both of us thought it tasted almost exactly like honey mustard and made me sick to my stomach with the syrup/mayo taste. I like sweet but this was unreal.I'm not sure if they changed the recipe because it looked lighter in color than pictures others posted or maybe messed up the ratio that day.“
“Some of the best bánh bao in San Diego. I always come here and end up with 2-3 boxes to bring home to my family. I've been going here for about 2 years now and I've had nearly every filling. My favorite are typically their bánh bao thập cẩm which is savory, and then I always pair it with their cadế which is a sweet egg custard. You can get individual ones or order a box which has 9 banh báo. Their freshly deep fried bánh bao are also BOMB. Full of flavor and super crispy. I also go all out sometimes and get some chè in their fridge. My favorites they've made have been chè chuối (banana) and chè bắp (corn).“
“The best egg on banquette sandwich! The menu claims you can do over easy but you will always get scrambled. After trying several times I forgave the egg shenanigans and just went with it-it’s so delicious. You will not be disappointed if you pair with their pour over coffee.“
“What a delicious hidden gem in City Heights! Seriously! If you don't know where it is, you are missing out! One of my friends told me about this place and I had to try! But you have to get there early, because they do run out of things. I love their noodles! Great flavor with vegetable and tofu! I'm trying to eat healthy. They also have some sweets like sesame balls with black bean paste. The man working behind the counter is really nice! He knows what I want when I walk in...and some mornings, if I get there around 10, he shakes his head, and I have to get something else. Cash only. I REPEAT CASH ONLY!“
“Great pho, service was great, relaxed but attentive. The atmosphere was quiet, I could actually have a conversation with my family, great experience. This is now our new pho place. Honeydew and Ube shakes were great.Kid-friendliness: They were super nice with my 7 year old, she loved the fish tank.“
“The parking lot is very small especially if you drive a big vehicle so be careful when you go.I went here because the reviews were pretty good and I was in the area looking for Vietnamese food. This spot is an authentic spot down to being somewhat crowded.I had the pho with the sliced rib eye steak and brisket. Our pho arrived pretty quickly which was good because they were pretty busy. One thing I always do is I have to try the broth before I put anything in.I took a sip of the broth and it was ok… it wasn’t the best I had. I tasted fresh compared to others but it seems like lacks some flavor to me but it could been just me. The steak tasted like every other steak I had at the pho spots however, their brisket was really good! I enjoyed the brisket a lot if I come back I will order double of the brisket.Overall, it’s definitely not the worst nor is it the best. I tell everyone to give a place a try for themselves despite how others review it because to each their own.Parking: Very small lot in the back and a weird driveway be careful when you drive in.“
“Incredible!! Such good Vietnamese food!! Also so many vegan/vegetarian options which is so appreciated! Also neat that they have coconut milk thai tea! We got the chicken pho and a tofu and egg roll noodle salad and they were both sooo good. Broth was so rich and delicious and noodle salad was perfect. I was surprised that they used different kinds of noodles for the pho, but maybe they ran out? Overall so good. Also the service was great, the food came so fast!!“
“It's an unassuming shop that has a good variety of banh mis (sandwhiches) among other typical Vietnamese Deli selections. The sandwhiches were pretty good and fairly priced. They definitely hit the spot when you've got that craving! The staff is very friendly, if a little bit sparse. They do work quickly to get yoru order prepared. I liked their selection of banh mis, they've got the classics and few others for the uninitiated. The bread was great, crunchy exterior and soft on the inside. The shop isn't much, but if you're there for a quick bite it's not that much of a factor - cause all you want is that banh mi flavor! Would return to grab another bite!“
“Absolutely delicious coffee and not overly sweet. So grateful that they had a vegan option for the classic Saigon Coffee as well. The line was long but the employees worked through it very quickly and were happy to answer any questions. Can't wait to come back!“
