“This used to be the location of Gaglione Bros, also a cheesesteak place. I was bummed when it closed. I'm not sure when Evan's Deli and Brew opened but I wish I knew sooner. I was craving a cheesesteak and garlic fries and pleased to see Evan's was at this location. These cheesesteaks and garlic fries are delicious! I've been here like 3 times within the last month. I typically get a mushroom cheesesteak and garlic fries. I also love meatball sandwiches but I'm really picky because I don't like them soggy. I asked for the meatballs and bread separately and they said no problem. Typically restaurants won't do it or put up a fuss but this was easy peasy! The owner/staff are amazing. 10/10 experience. “What an amazing experience. I was in a hurry on my way to catch the train at Santa Fe Station and needed something for my 8 hour ride. I found this sweet little deli and thought I'd give it a try. What a wonderful find. The gentleman behind the counter was so kind and helpful with my request to have a vegetarian option. He gave me great advice and suggested #17 on rye and mustard and it was perfect! Best part was that he chatted me up and laughed with me. Made me feel welcome and special. Located in a funky little strip mall full of fishing shops, this bodacious deli serves up some gnarly grub that will leave your tastebuds hanging five. Scoring a parking spot can be a bit of a bummer with all the switched-on surfers filling up the lot, but it's well worth maneuvering into a tight spot to soak up the heavenly aromas wafting from this hip hole-in-the-wall. One whiff of the fresh baked bread, veggie crispers and premium deli meats and you'll be amped to snag a table. I bellied up and ordered the Admiral's Avocado Delight sandwich - which may just be the most epic thing ever assembled between two slices of bread! Layers of creamy avocado, veggies galore and thinly sliced meats dripping with flavor all came together into the most mouthwatering meal since I paddled out at Pipeline. “Hungry lu's is so good! I've been looking for good Italian sandwiches around San Diego for quite a while now. I'm so glad that I found this Italian sandwich shop. I've had their pastrami sandwich here and it was quite delicious. It had a lot of flavor and seemed like it was brined really well. Next time around I tried their Italian sandwich since it was an Italian sandwich bakery store. They did not disappoint. It was fantastic, there was a lot of meat in the sandwich which I appreciate and the bread was nice and toasted. These two are some of my favorite sandwiches in San Diego. Hungry lu's uses a lot of fresh ingredients in their sandwiches and it shows. They gave me such a cool old school Italian sandwich shop vibe and I absolutely love it. I've gotten sandwiches for a lot of friends and family and they all enjoyed it. My boyfriend says hungry lu's every time I ask someone kind of sandwich she wants. I don't blame him“
“I'm mind blown to find out I never wrote a review for my favorite sandwich shop of all times! I originally found out about C's Ice Cream and Deli from my friend's dad back in 1999 and instantly fell in love with the small sandwich shop! Honestly, it was really the root beer selection that drew me in since Sasparilla/ Root Beer is my favorite beverage of all times! Out of 150 variants of root beer, cream soda, ginger ale, and everything else in between, 80% of my first time tries has come from C's. My favorite root beer is Sparky's (be very careful, this root beer has such a bite, you won't taste anything afterwards)...sounds to strong and want something smooth and creamy then try Virgil's! Don't like root beer, no problem...I also love their sandwiches. My top 3 Sandwiches are: Roast Beef Artichoke, Chicken Cordon Bleu and Pepperoni Roaster! But honestly, you just gotta make it down the list of all sandwiches. I suggest getting everything included, tomato, lettuce, oil and & vinegar with a pickle spear on the side. C's Deli is family owned and ran by a husband and wife team (Todd & Anastasia) and throughout the many years their kids helped in the shop as well and I had the pleasure to watch them all grow up to be fine adults! C's is a small shop tucked in a very small strip mall on the end of Mira Mesa Blvd. They have been there since 1989 and have made it through numerous ups and down (stock market crashes and even a pandemic) I've been going to C's Deli since my senior year in high school (1999) and sometimes daily during my college days (1999-2002) at Miramar College. I love how they greet their regulars (like myself) by name and I truly have grown to consider Todd, Anastasia and the kids.... FAMILY! My only con is since my wife and I live in fallbrook, I don't get the opportunity to go to the deli as often as I would like! But since my parents both still live in Mira Mesa, it makes for a great excuse to visit C's Deli! The brisket was a bit dry but the dip sauce was so unbelievably tasty it made up for it. The breads were so good too. The side of potatoes was perfect and better than the cucumber tomato salad, which had a lot of unexpected dill and not many tomatoes. I also ordered a delish sounding iced tea, but it tasted bitter and oversteeped to me. They were nice enough to let me swap out for a hot tea, but I would have loved a solid iced black tea. It's order at the counter so I suggest adding a water station, because we had to track someone down to ask for water, which took a while to come to the table. Still such a good meal and an awesome menu with many more things I want to try!“

If anyone has seen the old Black & White Episode of twilight zone about Willoughby, a fantasy dream town where a train ride takes him when he sleeps… this would be it.
