“Discovered this jewel about seven years ago and just re-discovered it. I'm always glad we stop in for a drink no matter where we're going. Don't know who does the hiring for this place but the staff (ALL) are awesome. Good job instilling a friendly and uplifting energy to all people - no matter where you come from. Last time I was there we drank a bit too much which made for a hilarious end of the night. Thank goodness for the breathalyzer in the glove compartment - everyone should carry one.“

“Walking back into SRO after years away felt like slipping into a memory you did not realize you missed — a soft, familiar glow, the buzz of conversation, and the kind of warmth that settles into your shoulders the second you walk in. This isn’t just a neighborhood bar; it’s one of those rare community anchors where the energy feels lived-in, loved, and completely unfiltered.

SRO has long been a haven for San Diego’s transgender and LGBTQ+ community. It’s the definition of a classic dive: no pretense, no attitude — just real people, real stories, and that easy, comfortable vibe you cannot manufacture. The pool league keeps things lively, the bartenders keep things relaxed, and the regulars create a sense of belonging that feels almost immediate.

After working in another gay bar in this neighborhood for over two decades, returning to SRO was surreal in the best way — I recognized faces I hadn’t seen in years. That kind of continuity is rare. It tells you everything about the heart of this place: people come back, and they stay connected.

If you’re looking for velvet ropes or curated aesthetics, this isn’t that bar. But if you want authenticity, comfort, laughter, and a place with a heartbeat — SRO is the kind of spot that becomes home without you even trying.

Highly recommended, especially if you appreciate a bar with real soul.“

R Place Bar & Eatery Bar & Grill • $

“Just after Christmas, we were in town for the new year and the Seahawks had a football game against the 49ers so we went to our place bar and Grill and had a fantastic time. The people were great. The food was great. The owners were great. I highly highly recommend we have been to numerous Seahawks bars Across the United States and by far this one was the best.“

“My friend Tony and I have been coming to Pecs Bar for years now, and at this point it’s far more than just a bar we stop into—it’s a place that has genuinely become part of our lives.

What makes Pecs special isn’t just the drinks (which are always solid), or the atmosphere (which strikes that perfect balance between lively and comfortable), but the people behind the bar. Eloy is our go-to every time, and I don’t say this lightly—he’s the best bartender I’ve ever experienced anywhere. He has that rare ability to make everyone feel like a regular, whether it’s your first time walking in or your hundredth. He remembers people, he reads the room perfectly, and he consistently brings the kind of positive energy that defines a great night out.

Beyond Eloy, we’ve built real relationships with Trevor, Jasper, Dave, and Raymond over the years. Each of them brings their own personality and style, but they all share the same core quality: they genuinely care. It never feels transactional. You’re not just another customer ordering a drink—you’re part of a community. That’s something you can’t fake, and it’s something you don’t find everywhere.

There’s also something to be said about consistency. We’ve been coming here for years, and the vibe has remained steady in the best way possible. It’s a place where you can show up after a long day, celebrate something big, or just hang out and know you’re going to have a good time. That reliability is rare.

I’ll admit, I’m probably a little biased at this point—but I truly believe Pecs might be one of the best bars anywhere, not just in San Diego. When you combine great drinks, an authentic atmosphere, and a staff that turns customers into friends, it becomes something more than a night out. It becomes a place you’re genuinely grateful exists.

If you’re in North Park and haven’t been here yet, you’re missing out.“

“Chef Julie’s Cajun Seafood Night is absolutely unreal. Every single bite was perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and straight-up transported me to New Orleans. The seasoning is spot on, the seafood is tender, and you can taste the love and skill in every dish. This wasn’t just dinner—it was an experience. Chef Julie seriously deserves her own Michelin star. I would come back again and again without hesitation.“

San Diego Eagle Gay Bar • $
3040 N Park Way, San Diego

“Stopped in on a Thursday night while visiting from out of town. It was pretty quiet with only a couple other people there, but the bartender was incredibly friendly and easy to talk to. We had a drink and then headed to another spot. I would definitely recommend going on a busier night for more energy, but overall a welcoming vibe.“
