50 Best Pizza Restaurants in San Diego

“Bronx Pizza does many things right! They sell New York style thin-crust pizzas and you have options to buy the whole pizza vs slices. It's relatively inexpensive and tasty! The atmosphere needs some improvement but being a low-cost pizza restaurant it may be ignored. Service is excellent. One thing to note - this is a cash-only restaurant, but they do have an ATM inside just in case.”

“This restaurant is tucked in a residential area of South Park and I love the quietness of the neighborhood. Parking can be hit or miss depending on the day— you’ll need to find street parking. They have delicious Italian pastas and pizzas that you can customize if you’d like. I recommend making a reservation as well. Last time my friends and I went, there were a lot flying insects outside (hence the 4 stars), but it could just be the summer season. It would have been helpful if they had bug deterrent lights or candles.”

“Really excellent! We've probably been here half a dozen times and I've had the lamb ragout on pappardelle every time because it's too good to pass up! Ribeye with fingerling potatoes and roasted artichokes was delicious, beautifully prepared and presented. Limoncello cake was delightful.”

“Hurricane Hilary and they were open! We made a reservation not knowing if they'd be open. They were. Seated us right when they opened. Nicest sever ever. The food is amazing. Had the calamari, caprese, both pizza crusts options, and cacio è Pepe. Everything was delicious. Will definitely go back an HIGHLY recommend.”

“We were greeted courteously, seated immediately, and services began right away. Our Sangria was great, the chopped salad delicious and enough to share. The agnolotti was out of this world! We also had a pepperoni pizza, crisp crust, great sauce, and additional soft cheeses on top.The chocolate bindi was rich, smooth and flavorful. Our server was friendly, attentive, and helpful with menu selections. Great meal!”

4.6Superb2048 Reviews

“We ordered three pizzas. I thought the pizza crust was a bit thin. So thin, it was soggy like. The pizza drooped as you held it up to take a bite. The crust wasn't bubbly and didn't have any char to it. The two different salads we ordered and shared were good – CARPACCIO DI ZUCCHINE e BURRATA$ and INSALATA SICILIANA.”

4.7Superb703 Reviews

“Everything was great except the fact that we were seated at a 4 top directly across from the service door so our table was constantly surrounded by staff bringing plates to and from the kitchen and bringing stacks of clean plates out, dirty dishes in. Seems like a table that really should be eliminated”

“Another fantastic meal at this great restaurant. Our waiter, Senan, went above and beyond his duties. He helped my mom get her phone charged, water for my dogs, packed up our leftovers and got us fresh bread all the time being so professional and pleasant. I got the veal scallopini and it was delicious. My mother got the calamari and anti pasta salad that was huge and phenomenal. Thanks a lot for making our visit so fantastic. We will be back..”

“Love Clems! I have been coming here for four years (maybe five) now and it's always the best vibe, service busy or not and great environment. I always recommend it to my family, friends and neighbors. Thank you Clem's for never disappointing and always treating every customer like a friend.”

“Ok listen up. Hands down the best food I’ve had in a VERY Loonng time!! I hardly ever write reviews but this deserved it. Me and my partner have been in SD for 10 days vacationing and trying restaurant after restaurant and bar NONE with zero comparison this place was the most tastiest freaking Pizza, 14 Wings, and mozzarella Sticks all coming out in huge portions. It’s called the San Diego meal. Isaiah was our server and he took care of us and Sam is the owner and Sam don’t ever change that pizza man! Perfection! Will be back!!”

“From North of Boston. Walked in and saw the menu! Beach Pizza named after Northshore towns and cities ... Newburyport, Andover, Danvers, etc. What a shocker. Talked to the owner and he moved out here after working at Tripoli Pizza back home. Tried a series of slices and the Detroit style was the best among the very good options. Really can't go wrong here.”

4.8Superb379 Reviews

“Great service, our waitress who was also a bartender was super attentive and helpful. Food was ok, I was hoping it would be much better. We had calamari which was very good. However our pasta dishes wasn't that good, unfortunately. The atmosphere of the restaurant was good ?.”

“San Diego is known for good pizza, but this slice shop stands out from the rest. Though it's located in ultra-trendy Normal Heights, Zia isn't a new kid on the block. The restaurant has been a local staple for over 10 years, and it's almost as if its owner is known for his outgoing personality through the community. Inside Zia an airy vibe is accompanied by eccentric art and decorations that somehow make the place feel like home. Slices aren't as big as some New York style joints - but expect a fantastic variety of culinary masterpieces. Crust has a delicious buttery quality and is neither too crispy nor chewy. Expect anything with marscapone to melt in your mouth.”

4.8Superb366 Reviews

“I love the iced caffe vienesse from this coffee spot. Every time I am in the neighborhood, I make sure to stop here. Another favorite of mine is the margherita pizza. The flavor of the oven bakes within the dough. It feels authentically Italian.”

4.7Superb461 Reviews

“Jacob was our waiter and did an outstanding job to make feel welcome, well served, and well fed. We ordered a pizza as an appetizer entitled the “Stevie Nicks” pizza. The pizza was fantastic by the way. When we asked how they arrived at the name he explained that Stevie was a favorite singer and thats how pizza was named. Creatively, he added that we could have named the pizza because Stevie came to the restuarant, sat at that very table and always that pizza. Very fun. For the rest of our dinner the joke stuck and ended with a complementary dessert sent over by Stevie Nicks. The food was great. The service was great and Jacob made the experience great. Ask for Jacob to be your waiter the next time you go to Alexander's.”

“Vinarius certainly lived up to its name ratings! From a very friendly reception to dessert. Drinks before dinner were tasty. The wait staff were informative and attentive without being over bearing. The food was amazing! My husband had pollo parmigiana and I had salmon al vino...I thought mine was best, ha! In truth, both were very flavorable. I think my husband's dessert, the chocolate cake was a tad better than my crème brûlée, but again, both were pretty good. I highly recommend Vinarius...no reservations here, great food and great service! Bon a appetit!”

“We were visiting from Minnesota to celebrate our son, a US Marine's, deployment homecoming. The food was delicious and featured interesting combinations, like seafood lasagna! The back patio was refreshing and created a quieter ambiance than the street while still feeling like eating outdoors. And we took some delicious cannoli home for dessert later! ?”

“Worth a visit if you’re in SD and wanted a casual dinnerPizzas inspired by other legendary pizza shops. Imagine costco combo pizza sauce and toppings but with better dough. Kale salad was good - was a little tough. Drinks were good. Venue is loud though, was sometime hard to hear others.”

“First of all, the customer service was excellent! The draft beer was exceptional, and the food was awesome. It's definitely some of the best pizza I have ever tasted. I wish I could remember names, but the owner brought us some Mexican beer from her place next door, and it was terrific. The initial young man who took our order was very professional and customer service oriented. Overall a GREAT experience in San Diego here at Leftys!”

“In Texas we always tell people how friendly we are. Well, as a Texan out in San Diego I can tell you this, at least at this restaurant they are more Texan than any eatery in Texas I have ever been to. So nice. Really appreciate the staff here, they took amazing care of us. Recommend 110%”

“I grew up in New Jersey, so my standards for pizza are HIGH. My girlfriend insisted that Sisters would meet them. I was skeptical, but I was hooked after the first visit and now she and I are regulars. The pizza is delicious, they have a beautiful outdoor dining area, and everyone is SO nice. I love it here and take all my visiting friends.”

“I came here for the first time in over 15 years. The food tasted the exact same as I remembered. I love their caesar salad. The service is okay. I wish they still had the parpadelle bolognese! I’m not a fan of their chicken wings lol stick to the chicken lettuce wraps!”

“Hadn’t been to Woodstock’s in at least 7-8 years. That was a darn good pizza last night. After Covid we haven’t been impressed with many food establishments. After a long day at the beach we were drained. But, the pizzas were awesome! Good crust/dough, toppings flavorful, and we ate every bite. Not sure what it cost but worth it. Please don’t change what you’re doing. We will be back.”

“Back after visiting a year ago and they are still doing amazing. The Lobster Bisque was PHENOMENAL. The garlic knots are always hot and fresh. So delicious. Pizza was as good as the first time which was amazing. Crisp greens in the salad. And the tiramisu was freshly made. One of my favorite spots in Point Loma.”

“Reali Italian vibe. Really good Italian food. There was a feeling of being a part of the restaurant staff's family. Owners are Italian I'm guessing from the interaction. After dinner, get the espresso. Damn good coffee. Eating here is an experience you won't be disappointed with.”

“Came here for a small dessert after eating at a Korean restaurant. Not only was their staff outstanding but they were patient and so friendly. They give you free samples to try before purchasing. I had the makers mark 46 bourbon. It was soooo good. They also have vegan options and the pizza is to die for. Love the decorations as well!Vegetarian options: Gelato vegan options!Kid-friendliness: Great staff! Such positive attitude .”

“We stumbled on this amazing little place on accident. Let me tell you, it will now be a place I go to every time I am in So Cal! The ambiance, the service and the food highly exceeded my expectations. I feel the price of dinner was well worth it! The food portions and flavor are perfect. Thank you for a great dining experience!”

“Fan of cpk. Spicy califlower appetizer should be must try in the list. Love their Thai pizza . Desserts are yummy . Their kids menu is pretty good in quantity. Lovely place for family dinner . Shrimp wrap is yummy !They have take & bake pizzas for take out with one main dish order - Don’t forget to give them a try .”

“Very pricey, but the vegan pizza just can't be beat; that's coming from a long-term vegan.According to my non-vegan family members, the dairy pizza is pretty mediocre, but I still stand by the vegan pizza being 10/10. Definitely give it a try. They don't use Daiya (that disgusting dairy-free cheese I'm sure everyone's painfully familiar with)---no! They use the premium stuff, hence why it's likely so pricey. As for the crust, I love it. Some people are used to more plain, unseasoned crust, so it does require a bit of an acquired taste, but I am personally a big fan of it. It's thin but very savory, leaving a nice aftertaste.Overall, really yummy pizza for fellow vegoons. :) The workers are cool, too, and the place is cute.”

“Loved the way this little shop looks and the staff were helpful and personable. The tall red head is super cute, might be a regular just to say hello to him. The pastries were delicious and my favorite was definitely the strawberry scone which was the perfect amount of soft and crumbly. I only knock off one star because to me the croissants are a little on the dry side until you hit the very middle with whatever is inside. I did also love the ham and cheese croissant because it was super flavorful despite the top layers being dry. Will be back soon.”

“We tried The Shop first time. The patio and ambience are very nice. Service was good however food came out after quite a long wait which is strange because it was a slow Monday evening. The bruschetta was really good. The deep dish pizza was tasty but a bit too heavy the crust seemed like fried it was at least quite greasy and crisp. It was a good experience overall and worth a visit especially for a relaxing patio atmosphere to eat in.PS. No kids menu and the only cheese pizza option was top large and expensive to get for 1-2 kids. So limited options for kids here.”

“$10 bottomless mimosa before 11? SAY LESS. The service was great and they provide you your own bottle of champagne with a cute self service juice bar and topping station located in the back patio. We also tried the avocado toast which I have to say was surprisingly one of the best I've ever had! Will definitely be coming back.”

“We sat outside to avoid the loud music and noise inside. Service was great. Appetizer was amazing. It was the zucchini flowers The shrimp dish is ok. Gnocchi is delicious and creamy. Crab pasta was good. Garlic bread was fabulous. We will go again”

4.3Superb2272 Reviews

“Food is fantastic. Best pasta around. Good drinks. Servers seemed disinterested in us from the start. Sat us directly in the sun with no offer to get umbrella or another table. I got up to ask for another table. The walkway was very loud and couldn't hear each other at a small table. Waitress couldn't hear us and we couldn't hear her, but she seemed not interested in trying to understand. Didn't ever ask us if we wanted bread, and never came back after the order. Server with food got us bread, but seemed unaware that we would want olive oil and vinegar. Asked another person to bring that.”

““ Best Pizza I’ve ever had “ is the typical reaction I get after I bring one of their pep slices to my friends or colleagues.I usually call in the order and they have it hot and ready by the time I get there.Truly family owned too. One slice fills you up as they are huge slices.”

“We were a party of 6 celebrating 3 birthdays. We loved the bruschetta appetizers and the shrimp antipasti. For entrees we shared the eggplant pizza, the paparadelle funghi and the black squid pasta. The service was excellent and the pana cotta and tiramisu desserts were divine.”

“Very nice atmosphere with a lot of smiling faces greeting you as you walk in. Place your order at the counter, and sit and enjoy. The staff were all very nice and weren't afraid to talk to the guests. Dinner began with complimentary garlic knots covered in their signature pesto sauce and they were absolutely delicious and served almost immediately as you find your seat. Just as I finished the garlic knots, my main dish was being delivered. Chicken parm with capollini. The sauce was very good and the pasta was perfectly al dente, my only complaint is the chicken was overdone. The crust was a little too dark and more burnt. Also, there wasn't enough chicken. It was a thin slice of chicken with more breading and cheese than chicken. Aside from the chicken itself, it was a wonderful experience and next time I come to San Diego from Boston, I'll be sure to return to try more of the menu.”

“I’ve loved this quaint restaurant since I came here several months ago. It’s an amazing all vegan restaurant that, so far, everything I’ve tasted has been superbly delicious! We came to SD for business and always plan on eating dinner here. We ordered the bread with oil and balsamic, my bf ordered the lasagna and I got pasta with creamy white sauce with broccolini and mint leaves.Wow ? my taste buds were blown away! Absolutely everything….again, was truly amazing.I would for certain recommend stopping by the next time you visit this area. It’s a 10 on service, atmosphere and foods!”

“First time here, we made a reservation same day and the hostess was able to seat us right on time upon arrival. We sat for a few minutes before being greeted by our server. The place was not overly loud for being packed inside. We ordered food and drinks all at once when the server did come by. However, it took at least 15 minutes for us to get our beverages and then the food was shortly brought out afterwards. My husband got the Piccatta pizza and I got the Gnocchi w/braised beef topped with the “4 pepper sauce”(highly recommended). Both were very good. Overall we enjoyed it and would def be back for the food!”

“My absolute favorite place to eat when I visit San Diego. The burgers are amazing but I go for the pizza and beer. It's perfect when you're on a budget. There's even a way to get a dollar off your beer. It's a small space but the people alway have great energy and it's also pet friendly.”

“As an OB local- I often order pizzas to go so I can go and watch the sunsets. It’s the perfect recipe- salt, sun, and pizza! I love the pear and prosciutto flavor Ulivo has.The staff are attentive and efficient. Bring back your tasting room!”

“Great food. Service was a little bit slow. Server was friendly and knowledgeable. Appetizers came out one at a time. And only 1 gluten free appetizer on menu- if you left off the croutons. Seemed to be somewhat understaffed at 745 pm reservation. Will definitely go back though.”

“Outstanding NY pizza! Did a pizza tour in one day and this was in top 3 out of 10. Yeah, we were full. Wouldn't have been able to do it without help. Perfect sauce, perfect cheese with a little bit of that grease and the toppings were on point!”

“I really think this place has sooo much potential that it's not quite living up to yet. It may just have been an off night but it was very sleepy (like dead quiet) Thursday at 7pm and we were the only ones in there. Seems like they need to jazz things up; get some happy hours and specials going to draw a better crowd to the bar, or bring back the music. Or just crear more music ambiance some how. The food was pretty good. We had a big green salad which was simple but fresh and the vegetable empeñadas which were good but pretty heavy. I'm a s***** for a vibe and they just didn't quite have the atmosphere I was looking for and expecting the night we dined, but a good place if they get some energy in there I'm sure!”

“LOVE this place! Better than restaurants in little Italy. We ate dinner 2 nights in a row there last time it was so good! Pasta and all the sauce choices are delicious. Service is awesome. Carolina is great! We come every time we are in town and send all our friends!”

“Small pizza shop we have here in the neighborhood, this and Bronx, both way better than any chain store. The pizza is crispy and thin New York style. On the weekends they usually have a line outside side the door. Margherita is my go to with 3 garlic knots. They have beer on top as ”

“This was our first visit at this local Italian restaurant. Authentic homemade Italian food as good as any meals we have had in Italy. We had the appetizer special with eggplant, Marzano tomatoes and fresh buratta. For entrees we selected pasta with bolognese sauce and the special with pasta, Marzano tomatoes, and octopus. All were outstanding. The waiter chose a wine that perfectly complimented our choices. We will definitely return.”

“Had a very large catering order (72 pizzas). Spoke with manager/owner on the phone to take the order and he was super nice. Got the order confirmed and paid for with pickup time set. At pickup time they took extra care to double check accuracy of the order and were spot on time. Helped load the pizzas and everything. Every pizza cooked perfectly. Delicious and hot and well cut. Well cut sounds like a weird thing to mention, but when you're serving 150 hungry teenagers, speed is of the essence and the cut matters!Highly recommended. This is our go to pizza spot for all pizza days big and small!”

“Service was great she kept us entertained and was keeping an eye on us. The food was way better than expected, bbq chix pizza took a bit but was good. It shows pool tables but they have since taken them out and thats the main reason we went.”

“The pizza here is great. I do advise that if you don’t like your pizza burnt or too hot ask them to not leave them in too long. They warm up the slices before giving them to you. I have kids so they take that into consideration and leave them in the over for a short time. Other than that pizza is great. I need to try the other things on the menu. Nice people who work there ask well. You pay less when you pay with cash I have noticed than when you pay with a card. Hope this helps.”
