“I happened to be in the North Park area today when I came across this place on Google Maps. It immediately caught my attention because it's a non-profit restaurant dedicated to serving healthy, high-quality food to the community, so I decided to give it a try.

What a great decision! The food was outstanding—the quality of both the ingredients and the preparation exceeded my expectations. The service was also among the best I've experienced in California.

What truly makes this place special, though, is the owner. He personally came over to check whether I was enjoying my meal, and we ended up having a wonderful conversation. He explained that he's actually a scientist in the pharmaceutical field whose true passion is cooking. He realized he could make a meaningful impact on the community by offering nutritious, high-quality food at an affordable price, and that's exactly why he started this project.

“If you remember this spot as Boomerang, go back — the new owners have turned it into Indya and the upgrade is real. I stopped in right at opening and had the lamb curry with a Flying Horse beer, both excellent. Afterward the owner, who couldn't have been friendlier, walked me through everything they'd renovated since the Boomerang days. Plenty of seating inside and out, with good shade on the patio. “We have been going to Madras cafe since we moved to SD, about 5 years ago. Food is always nice, especially the chicken varieties and chaats. Recently, we tried their catering for 2 events. One event had a kid friendly Indo-Chinese menu and the other had a South Indian tiffin menu with a live dosa counter. People loved the food at both events. They were also really prompt with food delivery and setup. I didn’t have to follow up at all and could focus on the event while the restaurant staff took care of the setup. Almost all of our guests came to us and specifically complemented the food, especially live dosa.“

“I’ve ordered from this place several times, and it’s become one of my go-to spots whenever I’m craving Indian street food. That said, I’ve learned that it can be a bit hit or miss depending on what you order. My absolute favorites are the peri peri fries and the cheese vada pav, I’ve ordered both multiple times, and they always hit the spot. The fries have the perfect amount of spice, and the cheese vada pav is just so satisfying. The papdi chaat was also really good. It was packed well for takeout with all the chutneys kept separate, so everything stayed fresh until I got home. The paneer sandwich had good flavor, but I personally found it a little too greasy. As for the Schezwan noodles, they were freshly made, but the flavor just wasn’t for me. I keep coming back because the dishes I love are really good, even if not everything on the menu is a winner for me.“

“I went to Royal India yesterday for Mothers Day and had a wonderful satisfying meal. I highly recommend the Lamb Biryanis and the Vegetable Korma. Both were excellent.
