Incredible, creative dishes. We loved our steak/frites and salmon/veggie meals - perfect preparation, delicious sauces. Very French! The decor in the restaurant is lovely French provincial. However, the designers didn't think about how loud the echo-ing would be with the high ceiling. So the noise was distracting, but the service and food were fabulous.
Overall the food was just okay. Nothing had a reel, flare or intensity of flavor. Plating of my steak was weird with slices of mushroom stem sauteed as a garnish, that reverie and flavorless. Potosi Potatoes served with "steak frite" we're thick wedges, not the traditional shoestring. French onion soup brother was salty and indistinct with cilantro (!) as a garnish, and it did not work. My wife's burger was good, served with the aforementioned potatoes. One of the wines we asked about wasn't available and another that we tasted was either corked or had been open for days. I'm not sure where the Westgate Hotel lands these days on the hospitality food chain, but there is absolutely nothing special about this dining room. I remember the days of my childhood when the Fountainbleu Room was the toast of the town, so maybe on expecting too much.
Location and proximity to the Civic Center theater couldn't be beat. Service was excellent. Brie appetizer was delish. French onion soup was a little heavy on the liquor; would have preferred more taste from the beef broth. Overall, it was a nice experience and would go back.
This restaurant really needs a new menu... We only eat there because it is easy when we are staying at the Westgate Hotel, but the food never gets any better. I never order the chicken since I got some that was overcooked and very dry. The escargot was very tough and my husband couldn't eat it. The wedge salad was very little other than lettuce. I have to say that the butternut squash soup was really good, however, so we appreciated that. They do have a decent and reasonably priced wine list. The new look of the restaurant was lovely and the service was excellent.
We had an amazing meal! The oysters were very fresh, sea scallops perfectly seared, coq au vin was savory! Truffle mash was excellent and the french onion soup!
It had been a long time since I had been to the Westgate Hotel restaurant. The food at this restaurant was amazing. The service was spot on. The location is very convenient since you can go to the Civic theater right afterwards. I will be back.
This newly refreshed and reimagined restaurant in the venerable Westgate Hotel is absolutely wonderful! We've been dining there before the opera for many seasons and always enjoy it, but the "new" restaurant is better than ever. My scallops were perfectly seared and flavored. My friend requested an off-menu version of a Caesar salad -- no problem! And the house wine is very nice and VERY affordable. Also, the decor is divine; being in this space just feels good. Finally, as an older women, I really appreciate the low noise level. I can't wait to return.
We had a party of six going for dinner before the show at the Civic theater. They seated us timely but then it took the waiter forever to come over and take our drink order. He was thoroughly confused, although we all ordered items off of the menu, we eventually got our drinks and placed our order for appetizers and dinner at the same time. 25 minutes later everything came out at the same time. The soup was so bland it had to be sent back. They wedge salads were actually small heads of lettuce with three bacon bits on top. The entrées came out very sporadically. we had to ask for the check, and it was wrong. We were really looking forward to a nice dinner before the show, but we will never go there again.
The "new" decor of this restaurant was a bit disappointing, as it seemed almost identical to the previous restaurant "The Westgate Room". The decor is fine however, just the same. Our server, Perry, was most attentive. The four dinners were nicely served and delicious.
We went to Bonne Vie before seeing a show at the Civic Center - very conveniently located. The staff was very friendly and helpful but I believe it opened recently and they are still working out the kinks. One of the servers delivering our drinks spilled two of them on me and my friend. They were very apologetic and kind. The food was good - I would go back. The ambience was a little blah - fitting for being in a traditional, nice hotel but I feel like the lighting was too bright.

The host was on a break and the restaurant was hard to find, tucked in a corner of the Westgate, but the other staff got us and others who arrived at the same time seated. I was disappointed they didn't note the reservation, so there was no mention of my mom's birthday. For brunch, we shared the quiche, which was quite tasty if unevenly cold/room temp, and the pear pancakes, which were a real treat with ginger and cardamom cream. Our server was lovely for the first half of our time and then was visibly flustered, perhaps from a rush of customers there before a show at the Civic Center that we attended. It's a great nearby restaurant that I'd recommend and go back to. The prices are reasonable and the ambiance is hotel elegant. Mom loved it!
We had dinner there prior to attending a production at the Civic Center. The food was amazing, and they were attentive to our need for timeliness without making us feel rushed. Will definitely go back!
Incredible experience, even during their transition phase. The opera singer was a lovely touch. Very classy. Wonderful ambiance, food, and drinks.
We visited for a pre-theater meal. The menu was seafood heavy and the seafood we had, oysters and scallops, was not 100%. Service was fine. But we will not be back.
The food was mediocre at best. Vegetables in the coq au vin were practically raw, and my ravioli was served barely warm. The young server was pleasant and trying very hard; but he needs to learn that a salad is served BEFORE the main course, not alongside it. And we had to hurry through the meal to get out before the very loud jazz combo started playing 6 feet from our table. Not the experience I would expect from the Westgate, and not worth the money.
