Really fantastic bakery with a wide assortment of unique pastries. It's unfortunate that there's always a long and slow line every morning. It would be a lovely place to pop in for a quick bite and drink. Parking is typical downtown fare.
Speaking of food, the dinner plates are actually really good and there's almost no wait during dinner, but the pastry selection will be very limited.
You have to try the Naruto Croissant and Mochi bagel with cream cheese.

Cute coffee shop in Downtown San Diego! Loved the Matcha filled Croissant and the Cold Pumpkin Spice Latte!

Strawberry Naruto croissant and chocolate croissants were yummy. The popular chicken katsu sandwich was simple and good- horseradish was nice and mild. Will visit again to try more pastries. Downside is you may not get lucky with street parking and there's limited seating for dine-in.

10/5 Absolutely delicious! I recommend the melon pan and the omelet and beef hayashi rice. The entree is a huge serving, so come hungry!
Edit: I wrote my review after my first visit. After visiting a few times and trying more, I also recommend the chicken katsu hayashi rice and curry pan! I brought a few melon pan back to Pittsburgh, PA for my husband. He said it reminded him of the melon pan he had in Japan.

Went to Japan earlier this year, this place does not disappoint! Delicious. Sakura espresso with coconut milk was solid and got the focaccia pane

The food is good, and besides IZOLA one of the few bakeries in the area. I like that I can just walk there. I find the food is mostly good, a few items are really good (beef curry).
Unfortunately service is a hit and miss, and cleanliness can be as well..
I still used to come regularly, and would give it 3.5-4 stars..
But today I wanted to pick up pastries for some friends and when I wanted to pay cash “nope!”
What do you mean “no cash”?!
What happened to “cash is king!” ?!
Can’t support this practice..

Absolutely fantastic. I only got the pastries and they were great. Place was very crowded but the staff was speeding through the orders as quickly as possible. Highly recommend this establishment for anyone looking for a taste of Japanese pastries.

For 09/23 around noon. The African American lady at the register was rude, short mannered and not welcoming. The tiramisu matcha has no hints of tiramisu. The bakery products was good though. The tables were dirty and I shouldn't have to clean my own table when there was plenty of people on hand to do something. I counted 5-6 behind the counter on their phones. I'll probably not be returning.

They got me really good, I paid almost $9 for two burned and dry croissant halves (basically, a $9 croissant). I’m not impressed

Come here at least once a month and have tried multiple of their breads, almost all of them are delicious. The pan curry is my favorite. The ice cream is different and worth a try. Hoping to go back to try their food options.

Photos speak louder than the taste. Was honestly disappointed in how bland they were. Presentation was perfect but was lacking something.
Edit- came back a second time to give them a second shot for the sandos and was also not impressed. Feel like they need a little bit more refining but other than that they were still good.

Sad they took boba off the menu but the Naruto Croissant was sooo good. The staff was not lying when he said it wasn't too sweet because it was perfect!! ❤️❤️ 10/10

We have "Chicken Katsu Hayashi rice" , which is a mushroom sauce served with white rice & katsu. The batter is overdone abit but the mushrooms sauce ( with actual mushrooms bits in it) is pretty delicious. I'll add the omelette on the top next time. I also have the karaage sando. It is quite tasty overall. The minus point is that they do not cut the brown edge of the sando. Their bread is on the chewy side & soft. The karaage is well-seasoning & served warm. They have drinking water available on the counter across from the cashier. We'll visit again to check out their pastries. FYI the pastry is only available in the morning & until it is sold out.
