I used to love this spot. I came today and had the worst experience. The new owner is rude and her menu items are horrible. I tried both food and a drink and both were inedible. When she saw I was not eating she ripped the plate away without another word. I can’t believe how rude the ownership is. No offer to refund the food that was literally dried to a crisp and inedible.

Loved the food. I ordered the Vegetarian Benedict Waffle and the fresh OJ. The Benny sauce paired perfectly with the sweet potato and veggies. The waffle had unique, tasty sweet crisp to it. Everything fresh and hot off the grill. Can't wait to try more waffles. ? ?

Nice assortment of waffles and drinks. Highly recommend it for brunch, the taste is incredible, just wish the portion size matches the price. Overall a great place to eat, specially if you are a waffle lover

Great food and lattes! The owner said Atypical was closed for over a year, but they reopened three months ago under their (new) management, We had the Strawberry Fields Matcha latte and a cold brew coffee. Both were great. Food was also delicious. We had the Brisket Benedict Waffle, the Blueberry Waffle Bread Pudding, and the Cheesy Hasgbrown Casserole. Glad they reopened, Five stars

How this place does not have 5 stars is beyond me. The service is sooooo pleasant, they treat you like family. The food is delicious and affordable. The atmosphere is comfortable- like an outdoor garden with plenty of seating and overhead covering/umbrellas. I ordered a green tea and their cheesy hash brown casserole- so yummy! Highly recommend if you’re in North Park.

Worked here when it was wow wow days. And now the new owners have totally made this place into my favorite place again. I can tell they worked so hard, and are continuing to work hard every minute of every day, for us, the community. I could cry because I’m so happy we get this amazing waffle ? on weekends. Happy, I’m so so happy! The food is so good, the drinks are amazing! The creativity in the space and food! I now have a kid, and I feel like they welcome families and that’s such a relief, sometimes it’s nice to bring your kid without worrying what others think of your toddler singing and making silly noises. Thank you thank you for all you do at the atypical team!

Everything was perfect. It has a slight wabi-sabi ambience to it which really seals the deal. Very friendly. So delicious. Bright and airy. Close walk to Balboa Park. There's nothing I would change...except maybe adding a plain waffle option to the menu, because that with a little maple syrup is what my son devoured the most.

Vegetarian options: Delicious eggplant dish.

Kid-friendliness: My 5 year old son was very happy. And my dog, too. They have little doggie water bowls out.

I just tried calling to talk to a manager about my experience today. Calls are not being taken at this time. To pay for a significantly priced breakfast, I feel like it is only appropriate to deal with appropriate attitudes and good hospitality, along with the order I requested. The berry waffle was delicious and I ordered a side of scrambled eggs to balance it out. The first little dish of eggs was like egg soup. I asked for them to be cooked more by the sweet lady at the counter. She said of course and sent it back to the kitchen. When I got my eggs 5 minutes later they were just as wet. I brought them back to the lady at the counter and she happily took them back to the kitchen. When I got my eggs again 10 minutes later, my waffle whipped cream was still smeared on the side of the scrambled eggs dish and the eggs were more cooked but sooo gross! This place did not appear busy at all for a Sunday morning! I felt like I was waiting too long in some kind of micro aggressive trap. Some parts of the eggs were hard, some parts were soft and wet, and the bottom had water I could pour out of the dish. I salted and peppered the crap out of them and ate them even though I strongly believe they were taken to the back and microwaved. I will not come here again, it's overpriced and my experience with the other lady there was not giving off a pleasant attitude and you could tell she didn't want to help me get my eggs right. My friend and I were very sweet the whole time but it was not received well by the cooks. Btw, what cooking surface is used to cook the scrambled eggs? I'm willing to talk to a manager about this issue, in my experience of hospitality as a manager I'd want to call this issue on the table. Wish I would have taken photos!!!!

Great hidden brunch gem in North Park! New owners are friendly, great selection of coffee/juice drinks with a liquor license forthcoming and the waffle-heavy menu has something for everyone. All outdoor seating with lots of shade.

First off, I love that this place is now owned by local San Diego Women. The food is amazing and it doesnt stop at the waffles, a variety of choices for a variety of tastes. The ever changing side dishes are must tries and the drinks are phenomenal. I had the tomato grits, fried eggplant, brisket waffle and the mango sticky rice matcha late. 10/10 a flavor explosion in my mouth.

Kid-friendliness: I saw alot of well behaived fur babies and kids! My friends brought their dogs.

This place is great! My wife and I stop by everytime on are way out of San Diego. Obviously the waffles are the main star here, but all the other dishes are very tasty as well. Their specialty drinks and lemonades are delicious and refreshing. Overall, fantastic little eatery.
