Bulgogi pancake and fried rice were particularly delicious. Rolls very good too. Service was good and friendly. Place had a nice vibe, and not too loud - possible to have a normal conversation over dinner without shouting over the music or other patrons. Will definitely be back.

I order dine in and take out frequently and every time, the staff is friendly and the food hits the spot. Highly recommend and will eat here again soon! I love the chicken katsu plate, Cali roll, miso soup, calamari, and philly roll. Excited to try more soon!

We came here for sushi shortly after it opened in 2023. the interior decor is reminiscent of sushi houses in japan. for starters, we had shishito peppers (4/5), sea salt edamame (5/5), and garlic edamame (3/5). we followed these with a hatsukoi roll (5/5), gluten free chicken salad (3/5), spicy seafood udon (3/5), and tobkotsu ramen (4/5). oh, we also had spicy scallop handrolls (5/5). hot sake (5/5) was excellent. Service was good.

Really enjoyed this place! They have great deals during happy hour. Great quality fish. Really enjoyed the sashimi and hand rolls. Blue fish tuna was expensive but worth it, so good. Rock shrimp were delicious. Unfortunately the bao pork buns were dry and sad looking. There was a side sauce brought to use with it but the pork to bun ratio was not good, so I would not recommend that dish. Excited to try more dishes here! Will def be coming back

Absolutely stellar! A perfect 10/10 experience at Ayu. Unparalleled sushi and ambiance that truly makes you feel like part of the family. The family-owned touch is evident, creating a warm atmosphere. The staff's expertise shines both in their menu knowledge and behind the bar. Ayu has secured a permanent spot as our go-to dining destination in San Diego!

This place is so nice!!! Went here with my best friend the other day and we were in awe of the amazing decor and vibe of the restaurant. They have a full bar that is absolutely stunning. The service was amazing I forgot our servers name but he was so nice and helpful. The food was also great, we got ramen, but I definitely will be back to try the sushi next!

Food was tasty - we got the miso ramen with chicken added, hoshii roll, and chicken katsu. Everything tasted fresh and was delivered warm! The staff were very friendly and nice. We got our food to go, but walking in and the outside patio ambiance looked fun, casual yet cute. Also everything was very well packaged for to go dining.

The food and service are both good. This place is good for takeout as well. Not sure why but my ramen aficionados haven't latched onto the ones here.

This is our new favorite sushi spot. We live close by in Rancho Santa Fe and have been trying to find good Japanese fare served in a relaxed ambient setting. It definitely fit the bill. They have a fairly extensive menu including a number of items on their Happy Hour menu. We ordered California Rolls, Spicy Tuna Rolls, and Gyoza from their Happy Hour menu. Also ordered Sashimi, cucumber salad and Soft Shell Crab from their regular menu. Everything was quite good. Our waiter Alec went out of his way to accommodate our every request. A true professional. There is plenty of free parking in the parking structure next door.

I've come many times for lunch as it's more affordable . It never seems busy so I worry if they'll be able to succeed at this location as it's a bit tucked away from everything . They have a nice outdoor patio which has heaters and is dog friendly. They recently added Happy Hour! Which was much needed and hopefully draws in more customers. Their lunch specials are what I've tried the most. The bentos come with soup, rice, salad, tempura, 2 pieces of gyoza and of California roll. Our recent visit for happy hour: Shishito peppers $5: - good size portion of deep fried shishito. I liked the lemony aioli on the side. House cab $5: - nice pour and decent to drink Garlic edamame $5: - sooo very yummy. The sauce was finger lickin good. Chashu buns $5: - two soft mantou buns with a small piece of pork belly inside. The bamboo container was a cool touch. The buns were soft and the pork belly tender Salmon hand roll $6 (no rice): - I was glad they could offer the roll with no rice. It was a small handroll but tasted fine Spicy tuna hand roll $6: - nice size and tasted fresh I hope word gets out that Ayu offers Happy Hour as it's a great way to try some items here. Lunch really is the most affordable option. I've tried their Galbi entree and it was super generous portion and well worth the $28 price.
