It wasn't the menu I expected but we ordered the guacamole and salsa with fabulous chips and three taco plate. All good. The shrimp tacos were amazing.

I ordered salad and pozole through seamless and the salad was super soggy! If to go order dressing should never be added! Pozole tasted like too much salt added! Very dissatisfied

This place could be so much better. The location is unbeatable, but it’s all just meh. The quality of the meats is not good. I hope they rise to the standards of what Bankers Hill is growing into.

My breakfast burrito was a soggy and mushy wet mess I couldn’t even hold it up. My breakfast enchiladas were plated very poorly and the rice and beans they just tossed on top like a plate of slop. Definitely better spots to go for Mexican that are way cheaper and much better.

Great place with amble outdoor seating that is dog friendly.

The bar and indoor seating is spacious and clean.

Carnitas is my go to when I dine here.

Their prices are reasonable and the decor is lively. A breath of fresh air when surrounded by concrete.

This was our first time at Barrio Star & we were not disappointed. The homemade chips & salsa were delicious. The blood orange margarita was a good pour and flavorful. The tacos were all good .. although my favorite was the steak taco. The meat was tender & had a nice smokey flavor. The tortillas were homemade and thick, so they did not fall apart even packed with meat. The staff were all welcoming and helpful. We will go back again.

Still my favorite Mexican spot in San Diego, love this place, the margarita is on point, the food is fresh, and the ambience is unmatched, perfect location that's relatively quiet but close to Balboa Park and central to bankers hill. Perfect for date night or family meal.

Outstanding service, complete with an impromptu Birthday celebration. We were from out of state and our server provided great local recommendations as well

Food was cold and meat was sweet? The chipotle sauce on top of the rice was sour. We all unfortunately had stomach aches about an hour or two after eating. Guac and Chips were good and the guy working was nice.

We had chosen Barrio Star because it was close to the venue for the performance we would be seeing later and its prices looked reasonable. At my husband's first bite of his carnitas taco, he turned to me with wide eyes and said “YUM!!!”. I had the salmon tacos which allowed me to opt for another taco so instead of 3 salmon tacos, I ordered 2 salmon 1 shrimp and was equally DELIGHTED with my choices. Our son ordered the Birria tacos and all three of us were impressed. The side was coconut rice with choice of beans on top (we all prefer the black beans) and that was a unique flavor and texture combination. I had their Barrio Margarita which was bigger than I had anticipated and scrumptious and my son had the Blackberry Jalapeño margarita. Our waitress was warm, friendly and willing to give suggestions and the whole place felt very welcoming. It was a grand start to what would prove to be an overall wonderful night. Thank you, Barrio Star
