Big Jim's Roast Beef

We met Jim on the day we found out about him generously donating the proceeds of a fundraiser for Brandon, the late owner of “The Friendly”. They had run out of the “fundraiser special” so I tried the Super Beef. Piled high with rare, tender roast beef on a toasted Sweet Onion bun, I was blown away. It’s so huge that I really should have only eaten half but I couldn’t - stop - eating! The taste of this delicious sandwich, along with the friendly demeanor of Jim and his assistant Asher, will have us coming back over and over!

Flew in from Boston and despite being on the other side of the country - Big Jim and his food made us feel like home! Don't sleep on the chicken parm- it changed my life!
Regret not getting the onion rings - not that I would have been able to fit one more bite of food in my stomach - incredible value for the cost!

Not worth $20 for a mid sub

Meat is tender and the flavors just work so perfectly together. Loved everything about the roast beef sandwich and will definitely come again.

Tried them at the OB Farmer's Market 10/23. Sandwich wasn't bad, but I did have to heat it up a little at the house as I live close by. 1 star because the dude was clearly salty after I hit that no tip button lol. I tip for great service or great food, which I had neither of at that point. Only one guy working so shouldn't be hard for them to find out who needs more training.

My second time in 9 months coming here and this situation seems vaguely familiar to me, maybe that's why I never went back until now?

If you don't pay an 18% tip or whatever obnoxious amounts are "recommended" on the CC Terminal which shows on a receipt for a wrapped sandwich placed in your hand with no bag that you need retrieve when they yell out your name like calling for a dog, one of the big sweaty country boys working in the AM on 10/23 will burn your sandwich bread a nice coal black color; that's even if you leave a cash tip in the plastic cup. The other customer eating the same sandwich next to me confirmed he paid a tip and his sandwich bread wasn't burned. No other customers, 11:15am, the boyz had 2 boxes of a meat delivery laying on top the grease mat on the floor in front of the refrigerator at the entrance way. Meanwhile, one of the boyz was prepping pickles at the cash register completely oblivious to the health code violation in front of his eyes; I suppose neither of the boyz have their food safety certificate. I was so hungry from fasting that I didn't care, I wanted another sandwich, but not on burnt bread, so I went somewhere else. At least they were nice and friendly about burning my bread, that's the 4 stars for service. PS - I cleaned up all the empty candy wrappers around the cash register, they still burned the bread....hahaha this is so.... childish.

I opted for the Junior beef sandwich without cheese. Roast beef was great, but would’ve preferred it with horseradish instead of mayo. Side of complementary pickles would’ve been awesome. My partner had the chicken fingers sub which was huge and it was so juicy and tasty that I almost regretted my own order.

my friend who knows the owner recommended this place to me when i was on vacation and the pictures i saw of the roast beef sandwiches looked good so i decided to try it and it was very good! i'm not a huge fan of bbq sauce in general, but this one had a great flavor and wasn't too strong or sweet tasting. i also liked how the roast beef was very thin sliced. would definitely get it again!

For a back east roast beef shop absolutely amazing meat was tender and delicious horseradish and onion rings where perfect didn't do the sides cause I didn't know I'd finish it was so good and I was starving so I did. Definitely going back soon!

Super delicious east coast style sandwiches! I’ve had the roast beef sandwich and it was very good but my go to sandwich is the Italian. It’s hard to find sandwiches in San Diego that remind me of back east (I’m from Massachusetts) but this Italian sub is definitely legit.

It’s a tiny shop so I suggest ordering pick up online through their website and that makes it really easy.

Recently moved to SD from Mass so I have high expectations for roast beef sandwiches. I just had my first junior beef from Big Jim’s and OMG. Better than most of the roast beef’s I’ve had back home on the north shore. Thickness of beef was perfect, flavorful, no fatty pieces, generous amount of beef, fresh bun and the OG BBQ sauce. Absolutely scrumptious. I can only imagine how good the subs are. I will 100% be returning! Thank you!

Not sure how I slept on this spot until today but honestly best roast beef I have ever had. Just wow, got off work today and they had a deal on Uber eats for a BOGO junior beef, everything about it is amazing from the toasted onion bun to the delicious slow cooked beef. Can’t wait to stop in the shop and get a super beef. Photo doesn’t do it justice, don’t think twice just get one!
