We had a fabulous girls night here for Wednesday's all night happy hour! The spicy margaritas were delightfully spicy, the food was fantastic, and our server was fun and attentive. We'll definitely be back soon!
Went for brunch & the four of us loved our food. The avocado toast with egg, tomatoes & pecorino cheese was the best I've ever had. The servers were great too. This has become a regular spot for us.
We've been here for dinner and brunch and both times were very pleasant, the food is delicious.
Great food, service, value, happy hour and ambience. I will definitely go back and highly recommend this restaurant.
Food ans service are great! There's live band and the vibe is so chill. We'll definitely go back again
First time here and I'll definitely be back. The drinks were great. One of the best margaritas I've had and the food was also super good. Loved the Brussels sprouts, the burger and the bao buns and are server was wonderful also. No complaints
We loved the good and the ambience! Adorable place, great drinks and a lot of options to share. We will be going back!!!
Food was good, but be careful when tipping. They charge the tip in advance so I ended up tipping double .

B&R accommodated a large group at very short notice and we were hugely impressed. The service was great and all of the food amazing. Wednesday is all day happy hour and there is an extensive happy hour menu.

I made brunch reservations for 10 AM on a Sunday and the restaurant was surprisingly quiet. However, the service was great and friendly. The online menu doesn't quite match the menu at the restaurant - different pancake flavors and they have cold brews too! Both cold brews were great but I preferred the Candy Bar, which was more creamy.
Sizzrup - cold brew, oat milk, coconut milk, cinnamon, maple syrup
Candy Bar - cold brew, coconut milk, mocha, orgeat
Vietnamese Coffee French Toast - french toast was very custardy and creamy
Smoked Salmon Latkas - really generous portion of smoked salmon, latkas were very crispy, and cream fraiche was a perfect sauce
Short Rib Hash - loved that this was served on a very crispy hashbrown
Overall, we really enjoyed having brunch here. All the food and drinks were delicious and the service was great. Bonus that the entire restaurant is dog friendly was well. I would come back to try other brunch items!

FOOD 4/5 - Based on brunch
SMOKED SALMON LATKES | it was delicious!
hand made latkes, dill-caper crème fraîche, pickled red onion, lemon, crispy shallot
TURKISH EGGS | Not bad at all
whipped labneh, za’atar, sumac, poached eggs, chili crunch, charred baguette
NEED TO GET THEIR PANCAKES NEXT TIME

Street parking around the perimeter - some are metered while others are free if you're lucky

Although the menu is somewhat small, we see that as a good thing. Restaurants that have too many choices can’t be good at all of it. Books & Records, however, does a smaller number of things really, really well. All of the food we tried was amazing. The service was great, and the atmosphere was beautiful. And, they even have happy hour on weekends!

Very accommodating for specific dietary restrictions. Good cocktails. Live music (piano and singer).
Great service, cocktails, food, and value. I am amazed that it remains relatively under the radar on the San Diego food scene.
