Placed an order for pick up online during business hours, card was charged, walked over to pick it up and they are closed. If you are going to be closed during your listed business hours - don’t allow online orders to go through, especially charging for food I’m not getting.

***Updated the review to 3 stars because i was contacted by the owner the next day who informed me they had an emergency and refunded the charge.

This lovely little French styled cafe has a delicious Quiche Lorraine and almond croissant. The coffee is tasty, and the proverbial French setting is comfortable with a few tables and chairs on J Street outside placed under downtown shade trees - with traditional French music playing inside the café, making for a delightful experience in SD.

While the food was okay, the older gentlemen, who I assume is the owner, was rather rude to some passerbys and people waiting doe the comic con pop up next door. A few people waited in line at the establishment next door, and while I understand it can be an annoyance, they're also just people. An older woman sat at an outdoor table that was close enough to the cafe to assume it was seating for either business. The presumed owner walked outside and asked her to move. He explained that if she "purchased something," she could sit here. "If not, move."

That makes sense, right? I had no issue as it makes perfect sense, but your tone and body language make a difference. I was initially going to say this café was stellar, but more goes into owning/running an establishment than just the food.

Do better.

We discovered this establishment after leaving the coffee shop across the street because they did not have any sugar-free options for my wife. This establishment had sugar-free options and the coffee and bagels were delightful. We will certainly return.

This hole in a wall unassuming cafe has the best croissants in San Diego! They bake their croissants in small batches, so they’re always warm, crispy, flaky, fresh buttery and delicious!

I’ve also had the cinnamon bun made with the croissant pastry, so it’s very light, crispy and cinnamony.

We’ve had the almond, chocolate, almond/chocolate, blueberry and cream cheese, and they’re all delicious! I’ve also has the creme brûlée toast (which you had to order the day before, but I don’t think they serve them anymore, unfortunately), and they’re amazing: pudding-like, custardy, unbelievably delicious! I think this is how the French eat their French toast.

I have also had the breakfast sandwich: egg, cheddar avocado on ciabatta, and it’s also very good.

We’ve also had the tuna melt and the smoked turkey sandwich with mustard aioli and opera dressing. Very delicious!

Their coffee is 100% organic, and their teas are high quality loose leaves rather than tea bags. I really like their Earl Grey.

It’s owned by this very nice couple. The service is very friendly. Sometimes it can be a little slow because they make everything fresh, but it’s definitely worth the wait.

Without a doubt, their croissants are the best I’ve had in San Diego!

Vegetarian options: Croissants, egg sandwiches, avocado toast, French toast, cheese sandwiches.

Awkward, uncomfortable service, and they couldn't even get the quiche correct. I would have asked for a refund but it would have been too painful watching them try to handle the register. Three people working, no other customers, and they still couldn't get anything right. Useless.

My review is based purely on the croissant, since that's all I got. It was delicious. Buttery, flaky, a little chewy, and still a little warm.
