Their mushroom risotto was one of the best meals I’ve had in years. Super attentive staff, cozy atmosphere, (that was even lovelier with extra holiday decorations). We ordered 2 tiramisu desserts to go and for no reason whatsoever they gave them to us for free! This was my first time dining here & 12/10 cannot recommend enough. We will definitely be back! Thank you for a wonderful experience:)

I normally do not write a review unless it is positive, but I felt uncomfortable with how the owner and chef checked in on every other table except mine. I was not sure if it was because I was dining alone or because I was seated with my service dog, but it left me feeling unwelcome. The male server was friendly, and I appreciated his service, but the owner saw me leave and did not acknowledge me or say goodbye.
The steak tartare was good. The shishito peppers, however, were a surprisingly small portion for the price. I had considered returning with friends, but the way I was treated made me decide otherwise.

Lovely food, people, everything…..thank you so much, just wonderful
This was the best surprise! My husband and I chose Carbon just randomly based on the menu and reviews. We had no idea that we found our new favorite restaurant! The ambiance, the food- but honestly, the service is what took it over the top. Angela was the absolute sweetest! She is not only the chef but also owner. From the moment we stepped in the doors, we felt like we were at home. Everyone that came in seemed to know Angela by name’ she remembered all of her guests and just gave an incredible aspect to this experience. The food was phenomenal, the prices were excellent. Wine selection was top notch. We are so happy to have found this gem!

Our favorite restaurant in San Diego the skewers and Jidoori chicken are our flagship items. I almost always get one of the new specials every visit.

I wanted to take my wife out to a nice place for lunch on a beautiful Saturday in San Diego. She begged me to take her to Red Lobster or Olive Garden. But I thought, 'Let's go to a really nice, highly rated restaurant in South Park.' Boy oh boy, did I get egg on my face.
The rating of this place dumbfounds me. San Diegans, of which I am one, know next to nothing about good food or fine dining. This place can only have good reviews because of those who live right in this neighborhood, or people who come from a place with bland food. Based upon the reviews, it seems as though people are far more impressed when a dish is presented well than by its taste.
For starters, it's not worth the drive for anyone coming from outside the South Park neighborhood. There is no parking, and it is way, way, way overpriced.
Unlike the many reviews below, we were not even offered a single piece of complimentary bread. They charge $5 for every refill of tea you get. I ordered a duck pasta, and it barely had any duck in it. It did not have enough duck in it to amount to even a single wing (duck wings are smaller than chicken wings). It was almost all pasta and sauce, and it cost over $30. My wife ordered braised short ribs (plural). She received one tiny piece of rib meat with no bone (nothing like the plated photo below my review) on a bed of risotto that had zero flavor and was mush (risotto is typically a creamy, savory Italian rice dish), for $36 or $38. Their food is mediocre at best and a huge disappointment, especially considering the overly high ratings and rave reviews from other diners. There was one good item that we had, smashed (not mashed) potatoes with truffle oil.
WARNING: Don't waste your money, and don't be deceived by the yokal reviews. The service was fine, the ambiance seemed okay; however, they have cheap metal chairs with no cushions, the kind that make you want to leave early due to discomfort. In conclusion, there are many superior restaurants in San Diego, and some of them are very near this joint. You have been warned!

We stumbled upon this place while on a family trip to San Diego.
Pleasant surprise is an understatement! The food is 11/10, the service was warm and attentive, and the place is cute and airy.
Highly recommend visiting this local gem between North and South Park

TL;DR: A “reservation” here isn’t really a reservation—it just puts you on a waitlist.
I booked a reservation for dinner with my girlfriend and her family. My girlfriend and I arrived about an hour early and politely asked the hostess if there was any chance of being seated before our reservation. The restaurant was understandably busy, and she told us to return at the scheduled time. No problem, we grabbed a drink nearby.
When our reservation time came, we arrived a few minutes early with the full party and checked in. The hostess went inside to check on our table, but while she was gone two other groups arrived to check in for their own reservations. When she came back, instead of updating us or even acknowledging us, she went straight to helping the other groups. After I asked about our table, I was told that making a “reservation” here doesn’t guarantee you a table at that time, it only places you ahead of walk-ins on a waitlist.
That’s not how reservations are supposed to work. To make matters worse, I could see a four-top being seated with just water and bread, very likely our table. Instead of clarity and professionalism, we got confusion and dismissiveness.
Ultimately, we cancelled our reservation and went elsewhere. I was really looking forward to dining here, but this experience was a huge letdown. Management: please fix this process, your guests deserve better organization and communication.

Absolutely the most authentic Italian experience in San Diego. The food is phenomenal, the staff amazing, and with a little bit of red wine the atmosphere is 🔥
