The issue isn’t the food, although portion sizes are very slim. I’ve given this restaurant a chance on multiple occasions and have only had 1 good experience. The issue is customer service.
My first time coming, I ordered a plate of Griot w/ rice. I was charged an extra $5 for rice even though the menu stated anything with an * came with rice. The owners response was “the menu is wrong, my son was supposed to fix it but menus take time to come in. I can’t possibly give you all that food for $20 because California is expensive” just for me to come back a second time and be told by her daughter that I was not supposed to be charged. The second time was a better experience because I only spoke with her daughter.
My last straw was about a week or so ago. My husband and I arrived at the restaurant at 7:04pm (after looking up the time they close) and when we arrived there was a chain on the door but the open sign was still on. I decided to call and the husband answered and said he’d come and open the door. Once we were upstairs, we put in an order for Legume w/ white rice and Griot w/ rice and beans with an extra side of griot since the portion sizes are small. He brought us out our food and stated his wife will be out to check us out. She walked out as I looked over the bag and realized the extra side of griot wasn’t in there and I let her know. Her response was very rude and honestly her demeanor was unprofessional.
Her: “Well i don’t know what you ordered with him but we weren’t supposed to let you in because we close at 7 but we still took your order”
Me: “online it states that you close at 8 not 7 but he did say we could order an extra side”
Her: “no, we close at 7 online and i don’t know what he told you”
Me: “so call him out here and ask. Also, i checked the time before we drove out here and online it says 8, would you like to see?
She proceeded to argue with me stating that it says 7 because her daughter said she changed it. She’s elderly and she’s tired and had been on her feet all day cooking and her husband wasn’t supposed to let us in. I let her know well he did, we’re here now and he’s making our extra side. She then proceeded to read off what she was charging us for and names 2 items that we did not have which was a drink and 2 beef patties. I let her know we did not have a drink or patties. She said yes you do, what’s in your bag. We had to untie the bag and show her that there were only 2 plates. After we paid, she went online and seen that the time did in fact say 8. She proceeded to still talk about why they need to be closed while also yelling at her husband to hurry up because she is ready to go. I let her know it’s okay, because we will not be back due to every interaction I have had with her has been very rude and argumentative.

Poor locals think that this place is a good Haitian restaurant. As a Haitian born in Haiti and raised in Miami, this place is horrible. The food stinks, the portion is crazy(15 pieces of plantains and 4 griot????) and overall poor customer service. When I asked why the portion was this way the lady said “welcome to Cali”. Of course i had to remember this is California so that already said a lot. Wish i could give it 0 stars.

I adore this restaurant so much!
No frills, straight to the point Haitian cuisine made with love! The husband and wife owners are so lovely and make you feel right at home.
My favorite dishes to eat here are the Griot, Haitian Jerk Chicken and the Legume.
Firstly, their Griot is so well prepared. You can just taste the labor of love that they put into the meal. You can taste that the meat has been cleaned properly, with citrus notes throughout. And the pork is seasoned and fried to perfection! Nice crispy exterior with the pork still juicy and tender. Perfection!
The Haitian Jerk chicken was such a pleasant surprise! I expected something similar to how Jamaicans do theirs, but the version they serve here is more like a stewed chicken that is seasoned to the Gods! It's like something your mom would throw in the crock pot and let simmer for hours. MUST TRY!
And lastly, the Legume stew was so rich and layered in flavor! Nicely seasoned cuts of meat, stewed in vegetables like Okra, carrot and other delicious components that made this stew amazing!
All my side dishes were also tasty. Their rice and peas are almost a meal of their own, and the pikiliz always taste so fresh and tangy, with the perfect amount of spice.
All in all, this is an amazing restaurant that I recommend to anyone. Your taste buds will thank you ?

Don’t waste your time. I spend 24.00 and the portion was so tiny and not worth my money. The service was worse and rude!!

they get my order wrong and then they overcharged me for everything I ordered and then when I asked to speak to the manager, she yelled at me she is an older woman, so I decided not to go back-and-forth with her. his is my last time coming here.

This restaurant is seriously scamming their customers. The price on the receipt does not match the price on the menu. That has to be illegal!!! You pay $20 for griot and they give you 4 pieces and stacked it with rice!!!! People should not go to this restaurant!!!!!

Some of the worst and overpriced Haitian food you’ll ever have. Needs to improve in service, lady begs for tips even though you’ve received terrible service and subpar food

Authentic haitian food! Only haitian spot in san diego. Highly recommend...flavors like no other. I got the fried goat (Tasso) with white rice and bean sauce. Fried plantains and pikliz was delicious. The beef patties were also really fresh and flavorful.
