Enjoyed a beautiful sunset and view of downtown sitting on the terrace (watching the planes fly in was neat). Went for a special occasion for a birthday and the service, drinks and food were all great! Staff was friendly and attentive and since we got there at 5:15 my wine was very reasonably priced for happy hour. I am vegan and had no issue eating here. Delicious brussel sprouts and kale salad starters as well as the beet steak entree - I ate every bite! My partner enjoyed his chicken entree - said it was cooked perfectly. All ingredients were super fresh and healthy. We appreciated the happy birthday placard at our table and got some excellent sunset photos. Check them out!

My friends and I came for HH on a Wednesday afternoon! We did make reservations and were seated right away. HH is only at the bar or outside standing area fyi. Surprisingly, I found parking fairly easy on the Main Street. The views are absolutely beautiful from the restaurant and the little patio is so cute when you first walk in. The service was fantastic and everyone was so welcoming and nice. The cocktails and appetizers were delicious! Definitely would come back again.
Food/cocktail review:
Dealers choice: (4/5) We tried two different variations and they were pretty tasty! The bartender made one with a mocha (made in house) that I wasnât a huge fan of but it was still yummy!
Gold rush: (5/5) I loved it! Super refreshing and balanced.
Fried artichokes: (3.5/5) These were just OK. The batter was good but something was off with the artichoke, canât put my finger on it. It wasnât our favorite.
Rosemary bread rolls: (5/5) YUMMM. They were so soft and flavorful. Delicious with the butter. We ended up ordering 2 of them. It only comes with 2 rolls.
Chicken skewer: (3.5/5) These had potential but they were really dry. It is only a single skewer, so we ordered 2 to share among the 3 of us.
Pork wings: (5/5) These were my favorite. They have great flavor and were tender! The sauce was delicious. Great portion for sharing.
Pasta salad: (4/5) This dish was just OK. Iâm not a huge fan of olives and I felt like it had olive juice flavor. But overall, refreshing and flavorful.
French fries: (5/5) I really enjoyed these with the aioli. They were perfectly crisp and seasoned! I would order again.

This place is top notch all the way! From the incredible staff (everyone) to the epic dishes, because to say delicious doesn't do them justice. We spent our anniversary here this evening and were treated like GOLD! WoW, just WoW!!! I HIGHLY recommend. I give them a 10 across the board!!!

The view and dining aesthetic is spot on. However the food is not worth the price. They skimp heavily on the caviar, I had to suck it off the top of the dish just even taste it due to the heavy cream spread on the blini. The $23 cocktail was not filled to the top of the rim. There were so many shell pieces in the oysters -- a problem that I do not have at Fort Oak. The oysters were also slightly warm... which I don't believe is how they are best served. Overall I would not come back for food.
The service here was spectacular. The drinks are phenomenal. The food leaves a bit to be desired, considering the price and flavor choices. I feel like more energy could have been spent on sides or pairings with some of the main dishes and desserts. There were some hits and some definite misses. Ambiance and atmosphere are superb, I would go back for drinks and apps.....maybe the mains get tweaked seasonally and end of summer was a challenge with the resources....?

Restaurantji Recommends
We came here to try their San Diego restaurant week menu. The view from this place is nice, but it was busy and even out on the varanda it was very loud. Though the decor was nice. The staff was friendly but didn't stop by very often. The food was hot or miss. The tomato salad was very small and was quite simple. Though the tomatoes themselves were good flavor. The charcuterie was missing several ingredients that were listed on the menu like avocado, prosciutto and cherries. They ran out of the chicken dish one of my friends wrote and apologized, offering us complimentary bread to compensate for our trouble. This was a nice gesture except they didn't actually bring it until we asked about it much later. I had the fresh catch (which was sea bass) in Tom Tom broth. It was pretty bland with the fish not really adding much to the meal. The truffle pasta however was rich and delicious. And my friends had good things to say about the yellow fun like appetizer. The desserts were also great. I had a mango Panna Cotta and my wife had basque cheesecake. Of the two the cheesecake was the star and in not really a big cheesecake lover. Overall, a fun evening but probably wouldn't come back here given the price to value we had. Though perhaps on a less busy night the experience would have been better

This spot was super cute for a girlsâ dinner at sunset! Since it was restaurant week, we got to try a bunch of different dishes, which was fun. The food was good overall, but I was really disappointed that the staff only boxed the steak on my plate and I had a bunch of mashed potatoes and veggies I was also looking forward to eating later.

I really hate the building Communion is in. It is ugly Miami 80âs garbage. It kept me from coming here until now and I wanted to hate it. For better or worse Communion is great. It reminds me of Mister Aâs but better. Better views, better style, better food, better drinks and better value. Not cheap by any stretch but worth it to impress an out of town guest or for a special event.

I made a reservation at Communion over the weekend for our anniversary, and the setting truly made the night feel special. The place itself is beautiful, with an elegant design and absolutely stunning views of San Diego. I definitely recommend making a reservation and choosing a table on the outside terrace if you canâitâs the best way to enjoy the atmosphere. The staff was also super friendly and welcoming, which added to the overall experience.
When it came to the food, though, I was left a bit disappointed. The dishes were esthetically gorgeous, almost like artwork on the plate, but unfortunately the flavors didnât live up to the presentation. Nothing we tried really stood out or had that âwowâ factor, which was surprising given the price point. For the cost, I expected bold flavors and more memorable bites.
Overall, Communion has a cool vibe, amazing views, and a wonderful staff, but the food just didnât deliver the way I had hoped. Itâs a place Iâd recommend for the ambiance and service, but if youâre looking for a meal that truly impresses on flavor, you might walk away wanting more.
