I ordered and hamburger cooked medium, my wife ordered pancakes. When the waiter asked how our food was, I answered that my burger was not medium and showed him how well done it was. He proceeded to tell that I didn't order a medium burger and chuckled?! and my wife's pancakes were tough and chewy. One of her favorites and she only ate half of a short stack. Again our waiter comes over and gives me the thumbs up and asks "how as everything? Great huh?" Well again I was straight forward and said it was okay to no response other than my check. Not impressed with the server and food was about as good.
Whoa! Went here for dinner and got the mozzarella slab, not to be confused with sticks. Same thing but you have to cut the block into your own sticks. My balboa burger just arrived so if you don’t mind, I’ll go eat that

Favorite place that we visited in San Diego. Chicken and Waffles were the best I've ever had.

In a nutshell; food was good, service was great, though just difficult parking.
Besides maybe having a tough time to find parking especially on a busy weekend, this place has pretty decent food and choices for all types of diets. Our server was nice and it didn't take too long for us to be seated despite how relatively busy it was. Food didn't take too long to come through and overall neat place to stop by for breakfast if you're ever in the area. Oh and just a side note, a very lgbtq+ positive community as you see the flag everywhere in the area.

Great staff here. Sat quickly even during a busy time. Huge selection of various foods to satisfy all tastes. Can sit inside or outside on patio seating in front for great people watching. Validates for discount parking at small lot on 4th Ave. Staff is so friendly. I would go here again.

Service guy in his middle age, dark blonde with glasses was so agressive about my friend & I trying to use the facilities. I get it, paying customers are the aim but we were also planning to view the menu after taking care of business. But this guy wanted an order before. We ordered a soda & paid cash while he left to fullfill the order as we used the facilities. He didn't even provide us the respect of providing our order inside, rather he stood outside with our cup with strangers but seemingly also delivering a drink to three black women in a similar situation (doing the same for them---but to provide further context, I'm Latinx & my friend is caucasian... so this was not a racial conflict but rather of sexism?). He didn't even offer change back & kept it like he was entitled to it ...yuck! This guy has no customer service, seems non apologetically against women's basic needs, lacking basic business components to serve the community in which it is trying to appeal or sell to. I've ever only written 3 poor reviews in my 38 years of life, this being the 3rd. But after this unjustfiably offensive encounter, I was compelled to share immediately. So upsetting but more so, saddened because it looked really cute & inviting—quite the jarring contradiction of what we experienced. Will never return to give a 2nd chance & differ all good humans from supporting this behavior in treatment towards women.
In response to my review: dear business owner, I'm all about supporting minority & women owned businesses but the reactive remark that "For Cityfest attendees there are facilities right across the street for all your needs" is a prejudicial & discrimanatory attitude that feeds into the offensive treatment we experienced, as it disregards my note of intention to become customers when noting our desire to view the menu (dine-in was our aim). We were looking for a quite space to relax in. The accupancy of just 1 table in use was our atmospheric appeal (but we were focused on addressing more urgent matters beforehand). I never mentioned we were event attendees. The server's whole demeanor was not welcoming nor offering the option for dine in. So, ok. We followed the vibe, left, & won't return.

Tried to use the restroom but was hounded down. Was chased down while the gentleman yelled, "hey, hey. HEY!" I was asked what I was doing. My friend and I replied stating we had to use the restroom. I was told I needed to be a guest. So I asked him if that meant that I needed to be a paying customer. He said, "yes. " So I asked what he had. He mentioned soda, coffee, and appetizers. So I wound up getting a sprite even though I don't drink soda. He never gave me my change back. No receipt. Just a weird coffee cup to-go full of sprite. The cup was paper and started breaking down after a few minutes. For context, the worker has light brown or dark blonde hair and thick, dark glasses.
I feel like everything could have been handled differently. Very disappointed.
Would have been perfectly fine being a paying customer. I just felt it was aggressive the way I was approached as well as the way the situation was handled. A simple, "excuse me," or, "I'm sorry, the restroom is for customers only, would you like to see a menu?" A little bit of kindness goes a long way.

Alisa was our server and she was excellent. I didn’t want a tuna melt just wanted a tuna sandwich and there weren’t any issues with this modification. The kitchen made a great sammie and my dog Darla and I got to hang out. Walking distance from my apartment, we’ll be back!
Had brunch on Saturday morning, first question is how is this place not packed? Large menu (breakfast, lunch and dinner all available all day!), great vibe, great location. Menu is classic, nothing bougie but delicious, large portions. I had the Western omelette, my wife ordered the chicken and waffles. Omelette is four eggs not the usual three so bring an appetite. The chicken and waffles was just about the best I’ve ever tried, fresh, moist and tender chicken pieces with light, perfectly cooked waffles.
I almost didn’t post this because it seems that although it’s been here forever it doesn’t seem to have been discovered by too many people which makes it wonderfully accessible.
