Food was tasty though my husband's steak was a little overcooked and my porkchop was a little tough. Also, the chocolate cake was a little dry from being refrigerated. Kitchen seemed to be a little slow as well. Nice atmosphere and noise level was okay for the time we were there (5-7pm).
Old town feeling.

Enjoyed Dobson's Mussel Bisque en Croûte. Certainly unique and delicious as well. Followed that with the Shrimp & Mushroom Ajillo which was less impressive.
Overall, good experience largely due to the kind and attentive service.

What a gem! This is a lovely restaurant with quality food. We had a delightful night sharing a meal with friends for my husbands birthday. Our waiter was fantastic, attentive and made our experience very special. We sat upstairs and it was a wonderful location in the restaurant. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and it was one of the best sea bass dishes that I have had in a very long time. I would order that again in a second. The filet Minion was also exceptional . We will be back for another meal.
Starters were great. Bisque & Soup. Bread was delicious. Both entrees were very poor though. Salmon was old, steak in the linguine was bad. So many other places in SD, wouldn't return.

I would think that they would not set people next to their cleanup station. Booked through OpenTable thought I would have a good table small restaurant and they had a party of six that bumped up to a party of 15 last minute . Seating was horrible and it was very hot ! Service was inadequate . Usually don't complain, but this was my dad's 86th birthday and was very disappointed !!
The reviews on this place were great but we got stuck in a tiny table in a nook next to a service door. We were crammed back there and it was like being in a closet. The space was literally wide enough only for the table. Also, the food was super mediocre. Three of us got filet mignon and the meet was tough even though it was cooked medium, so they just don't buy good quality meet. Lastly, we had two birthdays that night, which I put on the reservation and mentioned when I checked, and they didn't even acknowledge them. Overall, a very disappointing experience. We will not be back.

Excellent meal! The mussel bisque is amazing. The shrimp and mushroom appetizer was tasty. We had the surf and turf special. The filet was tender and perfectly cooked. The lobster tail was tiny (2 bites) but tasty. Get the bread service! Their sourdough is the best I've ever had.
Escargot and the mussel bisque has always been our favorite. We ordered it and it was very disappointing. The escargot lacked flavor. The bisque lacked flavor and the creaming richness one would expect. It was too watery. Either the recipe has been altered or some one is not following the original recipes for each. One member of our party ordered the duck, it to lacked flavor. Not sure we will ever return as Dobson was one of our favorite restaurants.
This was a special occasion ruined. Walked in, never being there before, but previously asking for a romantic, quiet table, we found a very loud, obnoxious environment. Thankfully, we were led upstairs, up some rickety old stairs, to a small table stuffed into what I thought was a broom closet. The chairs were so stuffed in, under the table, that sitting at the table was very uncomfortable. Service was okay, I suppose, but it was such that everything had to be " run" from downstairs, in back. And then the live, blasting, music ? started. And then they served a very long table of 18 people, right out in front of us, which took up the entire upstairs area. All the while, we were squished in this broom closet. Extremely uncomfortable. Food was okay, but very expensive. Service was mediocre, as the attention was given to the party of 18. - End result ? - First and last time there.

This was one of San Diego’s best restaurants and it is in poor shape now. Old, dirty walls and ceiling with paint flaking off the walls. Dusty shelves up high with dust balls and old champagne corks not retrieved. Only employees there were a bartender, waiter and chef. Sent my entre back to the kitchen.
