Asked for a slightly dirty martini, with an emphasis on slightly. It had so much olive juice I couldn't drink it. The seabass was so fishy it wasn't edible. The bread was great. The prices were reasonable.
I made the reservation four days in advance and when I came in, there was no reservation. I showed them the open table reservation and they showed me nothing was in their system. The hostess was gracious and figured out a table for us to dine in. Waiters were nice and chatty and helped us pick out a bottle of wine. They should figure out what is wrong with the system. I'm fond of the lunch menu than the dinner menu.
We got to the restaurant at 5:30 it was empty accept for the bar by the time we left it was packed. The food was great!
Friendly staff, small restaurant with 2nd floor overlooking 1st floor. Noisy but still able to carry on a conversation. Well stocked bar. Will go again.
Some friends and I went to Dobson's while in San Diego for a conference. We had a nice meal, but the service was lacking. The waiter seemed annoyed with everything and didn't return to check on us or refill our water until the end. The restaurant is dated and didn't feel cozy or welcoming. I wouldn't go back.
Always a great meal!!! Dobson's is our go to restaurant when going to a performance at the Balboa Theater!!
We were expecting so much more out of this restaurant but honestly the service, food and ambience was just ok. It's an older restaurant that could use a glow up. Tables and chairs are small, cocktails were tolerable, wine list is lacking, food presentation was an attempt at high end but really just a regular portion on a large plate, flavors weren't anything special and we saw our dessert came out of a box.
Quiet Saturday night before a Balboa Theatre show. I really liked the food which was fresh and tasty. I'd like a better selection of wines by the glass, but this is probably what works for them overall.
old school; great drink, food and service for reasonable moneys. recommended and will return
Dobson's is close to downtown theaters with a great menu and attentive wait staff. The mussel bisque has a lovely presentation that matches the delicate flavor. I would recommend this restaurant with old San Diego feel and charm.

The upstairs was really hot unfortunately. The staff said it was an old building and that it wasn't something that could not be fixed. The thermostat read 81 degrees so eating hot food and soup unfortunately was really not enjoyable as our entire party was sweating during the meal. The wine list is accessed by an iPad only and it's not very user friendly. A paper menu would be just fine. The food was tasty though!
Super helpful, friendly staff. Food excellent as always. Mussels met my husband's culinary needs!
I always order the mussel bisque which is outstanding. It's the only restaurant that offers it that I know of. The waiters and bartender are very friendly and helpful. It's one of the few places that still offers a great happy hour.
Our dinner was delicious! I love that they offer a happy hour that is later than 5pm. Our server was awesome! He listened to each one of us and our special needs. It was a wonderful evening and we will be back in to dine
Good fish and chips, lunch vibe chill, friendly staff, good chill bar and restaurant for lunch.
