Dockside 1953 is exactly what you imagine when you want a relaxing meal by the beach. Located in the Bahia Resort, the restaurant delivers excellence in terms of cuisine and service. The plating of our coconut snapper ceviche, pan seared petrale sole, and blackened tuna steak were incredible, and the flavor matched. We also really enjoyed the watermelon breeze and spring cleaning cocktails. We sat on the dog friendly patio. Safer to make a reservation. Recommend!

Honestly the environment and service were great. The food however was a very different story. The best way to describe it would be uninspired and bland. The best tasting thing we had was the bread on the shrimp role. The shrimp cocktail lacked sauce and flavor. Definitely wouldn’t recommend it for the price.

My son, his wife and daughter thought the food was pretty mediocre.
With a lunch bill of $300, we were expecting much more...
I was satisfied with my 3 sliders ($26). Would NOT recommend!

Perched on the edge of Mission Bay at the Bahia Resort, Dockside 1953 offers a refreshed blend of mid‑century nautical charm and modern California cuisine. The moment you step in, you’re greeted by yacht‑club–inspired décor—think teak‑style tabletops, brass accents, and maritime artwork—that sets a relaxed yet sophisticated tone.
Whether you choose cozy indoor seating or the spacious patio with fire pits and panoramic bay views, the atmosphere invites lingering over sunrise mimosas or sunset cocktails. They operate all day, making it a versatile spot for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or drinks.
The menu leans heavily on fresh, locally caught seafood and produce-forward dishes. Breakfast favorites include butterscotch banana French toast and a hearty beachside omelet. Lunch and dinner offer shareable options like rockfish ceviche, oysters Rockefeller, seafood towers, and prosciutto‑brie flatbread. Mains range from steak frites and chicken under a brick to forbidden‑rice risotto and daily‑catch fish entrees.
Cocktail lovers will appreciate the throwback drinks menu—try the Butterfly Champagne cocktail or a tropical mai tai—alongside craft beers and a curated wine list. Service is warm and attentive, creating a welcoming vibe whether you're on a casual brunch with friends or an upscale date night.
Dockside 1953 strikes a perfect balance: elevated coastal fare in a stylish, yet laid‑back waterfront setting. It’s a standout destination for anyone craving ambiance, quality, and a true San Diego bay‑front experience.

I loved the atmosphere and ambiance especially having the dock view!! Unfortunately the food I ordered didn’t taste like much, very bland and no flavor only thing I enjoyed was the fruit. I had the fish tacos and a crab roll. I’d probably try other food items if I ever go again. The service was amazing though 10/10.

This is our first time here and I already love it! The restaurant's ambiance was elegant and sophisticated, with a lively bar scene and a beautiful ocean view. The outdoor lights are spot on and our fire table is so relaxing because it was little breezy at night. The service was impeccable, Celeste is our server, with knowledgeable staff who were happy to guide us through our orders. The oyster is so fresh! Mai tai is so good and the tuna steak is so delicious!
It was an overall great experience! Ethan, our server, was incredible at his job. He brought high energy, great food and drink recommendations, and went the extra mile for our party. The view was beautiful and the food was delicious
Got the $110 tower (most expensive starter). Hair in our food. Manager chose to give us more of the food that had hair in it. Upon being brought out the new food, we found out the first food was made incorrectly. The coconut ceviche was missing the dressing and all the toppings the first time. There was an ungodly amount of sand in the clams and the oysters. Just overall not worth the cost of the tower and I would advise others to not waste their money on it. The entrees were ok however, they utilize way too much apple cider vinegar. The veggies with the sole had so much, it burned my throat.

We love staying at the Bahia and rarely eat offsite while there. We have eaten at Dockside on numerous occasions for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All is amazing and the bartender is on point! Was a little sad to see some of our favorite items missing from the menu on our visit this weekend (clam chowder and cream brule for dessert) but enjoyed trying something new. Our server told us we were not the first guests to express missing the creme brule and that they had been told that they would be getting an updated menu in the next few weeks, so fingers crossed that it is coming back. The view from the deck is amazing but honestly the food stands on it own. Note to self.... order an extra side of charred broccolini, IT IS AMAZING!

Excellent outdoor dining experience! We began our meal with cocktails - delicious cosmopolitan and a classic gin martini. We shared a crab cake appetizer which was full of crab, minimal fillers, with a light sauce. Yum. We also enjoyed the hangar steak entree alongside the bread boule. Overall, a nice experience!
