We had an amazing experience at Downtown Sushi. It was delicious and the entire staff was friendly and helpful.
We enjoyed our meal at Downtown Sushi. The sushi fresh and flavorful. We had the baked lango and lion sushi rolls, both excellent. The drinks on the other hand were not good. We went on two occasions and both times the drinks were subpar. They have the wait staff making the drinks instead of an actual bartender, which explains why the drinks are so weak. So overall, excellent sushi, just don't order any alcoholic beverages.
Table of 7. Each of us agrees this was the best sushi we've ever had. Ambience and Service 10/10. This is a must eat!
Restaurant decor was a nice surprise. Our server was vey polite and provided great service
Fresh, creative presentation and delicious. Staff was friendly, attentive and informative. Our son, a real sushi lover gave it an “awesome.”
Bien bien super bien todo bien Bien bien super bien todo bien Bien bien super bien todo bien
Overall the food was good, but the service was nearly non existent. Drink order came out quick, and that was it. The waiter had to be reminded to bring out wasabi and ginger, forgot to bring out the miso that was ordered, and so on. We ordered 2 rolls and 2 sashimi and it took around 50 minutes to get the first part, then another 20-30 for the second. It wasn't terribly busy, and nothing was communicated to explain all of this. It wasn't a horrible experience, but it was a first time and last time eating here for sure.
Solid sushi and tasty cocktails! Don't be fooled by the dated decor - this place churns out high quality eats!
Great spot for pre-Broadway San Diego show....walking distance to the Civic Center....waitress Mari was a treat!
The decor is left over from an Italian restaurant. Service was more or less slow, but reasonable. The sushi was about average, nothing special. No reason to go out of your way to come here, but no reason to avoid it, either.
Restaurantji Recommends
Fresh sashimi and sushi but small and thinly sliced, seemed like a snack instead of a meal.
I celebrated my birthday at downtown sushi and it was very special. The moment I entered the restaurant, the host greeted me with a smile and accommodated seat preference. Also, Chef Ruthi (sushi chef) made a very personalized fire roll for me. All the food and drinks (especially the margarita) here are very amazing. The service as well is 10/10 would highly recommend!

This was the first time that we visited Downtown Sushi. The food was absolutely delicious! We tried three different rolls, the lemon roll. The gas lamp roll, and the California roll, and they were all amazing. The service was a little slow, which surprised us as there was only one other table in the whole restaurant. That was really the shame of it all! This place is a really good place to go for sushi and sashimi, however, it is not in a very good section of downtown San Diego and as a result, I think that very few people have ever even tried it. Frankly, I'm surprised they are still open, but I really hope that people , give them a try! Our server was a bit, overwhelmed at first and seemed quite nervous. Perhaps she is new, I really don't know. However, when looking for good fresh sushi, this is certainly a great choice in downtown San Diego!
Delicious food and great presentation on the dishes! Thank you team!
