The Queso appetizer was out of this world!! I got the 2 taco combo, Adobada and Carnitas. There wasn't any flavor at all. I ended up bringing both home with just a couple of bites from each. My son got the Diablo Shrimp platter that he said didn't have much spice at all. I really was expecting a bit more from this place. Would definitely be going back for the Queso and cocktails.

The food was delicious and authentic. The service was fast and pleasant. The meal was one of the highlights of our weekend.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but our visit to Casa de Fred's was incredibly disappointing. The food was by far the worst part of the night. The meat was almost inedible — tough, chewy, and loaded with fat. For the prices they're charging, I expected something remotely close to quality, but it felt like we were served the cheapest cuts available. Nothing about the meal justified the cost, and we left feeling frustrated and unsatisfied. It's unfortunate because the place has potential, but until they seriously improve their kitchen, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Definitely not worth the hype or the money.

Only bad thing was that the tortilla chips were rancid. We brought it to the attention of our waitress and she took care of it. All the bags were rancid from the supplier and they were notified.

Great Cinco de Mayo experience . Great food and drinks with an excellent value. There was a long line, but our party of seven had a reservation which they accommodated quickly. Thanks!

It is a great spot for good food and people-watching. The pitcher of margarita was really good

Honestly, if you want some good Mexican food laid-back with great views this is the place to be. We love coming to Fred's when we are in Old Town. Great value and great food. Even the dogs have a menu!!!

Went here for the first time, also have never being to Old town and we enjoyed it very much. The food was well worth the money and I enjoyed the atmosphere. The waiters were also super friendly. Definitely would come back !

Definitely glad we made reservations! It was Christmas night and super busy! Our server was great. Food was good, got a Carnitas taco and it was gushy and had no pork taste. We decided it was pot roast not carnitas! Very disappointed. The white rice was interesting, never seen that at a Mexican restaurant before. Beans were good. The other taco I had was delicious! I think it was called the Gringo. I will go back just for that taco!! Overall it was a good night! We will be back

We were very happy with our meal there. We sat by sidewalk and it was pretty and warm with the fires. The food was great! The service was also amazing:)

$2.95 for chips and salsa after your first basket. This has been my to go place since 2007, but seems like the food has taken a step back and the portions are smaller than before. Going to find a new go to place when visiting San Diego.

We made last minute reservation and enjoyed a quiet lunch. We have always like going to Fred's as it is a festival environment and fun to be there and hear the music and laughter of others. This time it was quiet due to it being a Monday afternoon and not much going on in the area. The food was very tasty and service great. And it was pleasant and relaxful to enjoy lunch in the unusual quiet environment . DJ

Fantastic!

We visited Fred's on Sunday evening (29th Sept) for dinner and it exceeded our expectations. There may be more renowned establishments in Old Town but I can guarantee you that none are any better.

The outdoor area is bright and appealing, the service is first class and the food was outstanding (and much less expensive than most other restaurants in the area.

Much credit must go to Maria - our hostess. She was amazing - attentive, friendly and professional (many thanks Maria from the old Aussies!).

This is a great venue and highly recommended.

Took the granddaughters to lunch prior to the play at the Cygnet - nice walk to restaurant and the staff were attentive and the food excellent. Such a lively fun place to have lunch prior to Rocky Horror!!
