The best food! The best steaks, drinks and deserts and popovers! The staff at every level is friendly, helpful and professional. The ambiance is amazing. The place feels classy, but not intimidating or unwelcoming. Chef Deborah knows what she is doing with this successful restaurant. I hope you are always here to come back to!
What a Let down! I've never been SO EMPARASSED by service and food. The server (Chris) seemed to be working for the first night. He couldn't work the TOAST program he was ruse and forgetful. # times we asked where the Oysters were from and 3 times he had forgotten the information. The servers need to be retrained with HOW to server - you DO NOT cross in front of another patron to literally drop bread on the table cloth because you missed / couldn't see the plate. the food was over cooked and unprofessionally presented. We ordered 2 types of oysters - and we were never told what shell was what. Not sure who made the cocktail sauce that day but it DEFINITELY was more marinara than cocktail. a 20oz Rib eye should NOT look like it was the last cut of the day and DRAGGED on the floor. It was burnt and over done. The Mac n cheese was an entrée and we asked multiple times for a larger plate but nothing was ever delivered. It was my husbands' birthday and the server continued to address my teenager with the birthday wishes although I corrected him 3 times. Had the Server been more attentive and not "hanging at the hostess stand" maybe or meal would have been salvageable, but he never returned to check on us. When we DID ask for the check it was thrown on the table. My $300 dinner should NOT be ruined because he's having issues. I hope the restaurant enjoyed my money - as it will be the LAST TIME I will visit@
We had an amazing first experience here. The hostess was very sweet. Ishmael took wonderful care of us. Very knowledgeable, friendly, energetic AND loved hearing updates from us on the Padres game. The foooood???? was phenomenal. Ahi stack, calamari apps; scallops and steak prime trio; roasted Brussels. It was perfection. Yummy coffee ice cream cake we took home for boyfriend's bday because we were stuffeddd. Amazing ambiance, beautiful views, great food and of course perfect company. 10/10 y'all. Worth every penny. Was very nice that the manager Anthony also stopped by to chat and ask how all was going. Was such a Great guy!?
We had never been before, so we decided to go for our one year anniversary. Anthony and Ishmael were absolutely phenomenal. The food was amazing, but their service was extraordinary.
The restaurant and service was top notch. The manager was very sociable and worked out the issues we were having. The food was delicious but the Filet Mignon needed some seasoning to it. It was on the plain side and wasn't cooked to what we asked for. The lobster tail was awesome and the twice baked potato was crazy huge. We're bummed that we couldn't take the rest of the potato home since we were vacationing away from home for the weekend. Would definitely recommend this place for a romantic dinner. The view of the water was breathtaking.
The highlight of the dinner were the popovers. The filet mignon was cold and the boneless ribeye was had huge chunks of fat and no flavor. Overall food was mediocre. If you are looking for a good steakhouse this is definitely NOT the place to go! Not worth $350 and I wouldn't even eat there if you paid me. Will not be returning and I do not recommend this place at all!
We have visited Island Prime many times and have never had a less-than-great experience. Our table last night was near the chef's ready meal counter and noisier than we prefer, but everything else was up to the exceptional standard we associate with Island Prime. Three of us shared the delicious "monster" baked potato and still had a take-home portion. We all chose a seafood entree and highly recommend the seared scallop, regular salmon, and lobster dishes. Service was excellent as always!
For the last 20+ years, always a good experience at a Debbie C restaurant. Great local and a nice restaurant although not the best steakhouse in SD, but close. Long term staff makes things friendly and waiters can talk about the food to help you select. I noticed they are staffed more lightly then in the past which means service can be slow. We were there on a "date night" so we certainly appreciated not being rushed - arrived at 6pm, had to wait until 6:16 for the table because it "needed to be set up" and left at 9 pm - but part of the reason was long breaks between when we finished our meals and then waited a good 1/2 hour for clearing/desert (The fork/knife overturned/crossed on a plate use to signals you are done.) Hard to flag down the waiter at our table and attending staff for water passed by twice during the night - once when we sat to fill our water glasses and again at 8:30pm. I still do not understand the wait on arrival - it was an early seating and if the table was not ready due to patrons not finishing on time as predicted by the restaurant, then that could be the light staffing issue. Still, a nice date, family celebration, or similar experience.
It was really great!! We had reservations at a different restaurant and decided to look up the menu at Island Prime because we could walk there. We loved the menu so we changed our reservations to Island Prime. We had the charred octopus and crab cakes. The octopus was cooked to perfection and so tender. The cream corn side was so good. Don't shy away because it seems simple. It was great and a huge side. You can share it for sure. Drinks were on point! The skirt steak was cooked to the perfect medium rare and so tender. We will for sure be back when we are in San Diego again!! Great job Island Prime!!

Everything was A++ except our bar experience while waiting for our reservation. The female bartender was extremely rude and ignored us for probably 10 or 15 minutes. She was near me fixing a drink, and I told her our party of 3 were going to just order a drink while waiting for our table. I told her I would like an OldFashioned, and not wanting to make her go through the litany of different bourbons, I just asked her to name the top 3, and I would pick. She declined, and motioned that I could go look on the other side of the bar, 15 feet away and look at the bourbons. I did, and there was a male bartender who was very helpful, and he helped me pick a bourbon. I returned and was ignored by the female bartender for 10 more minutes until I had to ask if we could possible order drinks. She finally made the drinks. Very rude, dismissive, couldn't have cared less if we ordered our 3 drinks for over $50 or not. Everything else was wonderful. Our food server was lovely, attentive at all times, and the food was spectacular.
My wife and I celebrated our 14th anniversary and decided to have dinner here. Very nice place and perfect for the occasion. However while we were having dinner we spotted a very small insect on our table. We let one of the servers know and he immediately took care of it. For me is not a big deal but being the fact that is a luxury restaurant with high expectations, this can definitely put a question mark. We make the best of it and didn't created a fun moment, at the end the occasion was for us.
Food was amazing, the wait was not. Had 8pm reservations and didn't get sat until 825 while walk-ins that came in after us were seated before we were. I also understand not every table will have a view but it was a little upsetting to be sat in the furthest corner with only a view of the kitchen door.
Wonderful food, with great portion size. Our only complaint would be the service. The hostess was not very friendly and not communicating with us clearly. Our waitress was ok, not real friendly but not rude either.
It was a HUGE disappointment from the first time we dined here. We were on time and I approached a young hostess with a puss face and arms crossed across her chest. Told her my name and with a snotty reply “last name?” She then said it would be a few minutes. 20 minutes later we were seated in the furthest spot from the table I had requested which was anything closest to the windows on the water. And there were plenty of tables next to the windows which were never sat! We were greeted by our waitress and told her we would need a moment and didn't see her again for 20 minutes. Then the $50 oysters came and two of them were bad so we refused to eat them! You would think in this kind of establishment that the chef would make sure only edible and good quality went out to tables! Popovers were delish as always! The Brussels were great! Pork was dry, my friends scallops were good but the risotto cakes were inedible! 2 out of 4 meals and an extremely disappointing appetizer of oysters is unacceptable for the price you pay here! I guess I should have known after the hostess set the tone! It is no longer about customer service and quality! It is just a give me the money establishment. I had RAVED about this place to our friends and clients for months and boy did I look like a fool! Needless to say none of is will be returning!
