Really sweet service, but I wouldn’t recommend getting food here. The bathroom is quite disgusting. Not even sure how they are making food if there is literally poop on the seat. I didn’t even take pictures of the rest of the stall but I’m going to have nightmares.

Perfect place to get a coffee, pastry, or salad and watch the birds fly, hear the sea, lions and take in a nice view.

$16 for a sandwich seemed very steep for what I got, it certainly felt like something I could make at home. And tasted like it too, for that, I don’t recommend the food. Their drinks were also mediocre.

However the view was very nice as you could set at the open windows, I enjoyed watching the world pass by. Only if you don’t mind the smell.

I approached this local coffee shop in La Jolla with high expectations, but unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. As a customer, I anticipated a warm and welcoming environment, but that was not the case.

While waiting for a couple of customers to finish ordering, I set up my laptop and planned to place my order as soon as they were done. When I attempted to use the bathroom, the barista abruptly informed me that I needed to make a purchase first. I fully understood this policy and promptly moved to the counter to place an order.

In an effort to keep the mood light, I made a casual remark, “I was making my way over here,” and inquired about a coffee recommendation. All was well and I decided on a drink. However, my attempt at friendly banter was met with a cold response. When I jokingly asked, “Did I look homeless to you?” the barista responded with an unprofessional and aggressive remark: “I deal with this every day, I won’t put up with your shit, buddy,” and proceeded to ask me to leave. I was genuinely trying to engage in a cordial manner, yet I was met with hostility.

Upon leaving, the owner called me over to speak with him. While he wasn’t particularly warm, he did defend his employee’s behavior but maintained a respectful tone throughout the conversation. He even directed me to a nearby coffee shop with WiFi, which, while considerate, did little to rectify the overall unpleasant interaction with the barista.

I understand that this establishment may be burdened with a high volume of non-paying customers, particularly from the cave across the street, but I was not one of them. I was visiting on vacation and needed a quiet space to complete some work, with the intent to purchase. It is disheartening that, despite being a paying customer, I was treated with such disregard.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but the lack of basic hospitality and professionalism here warrants one. It's unfortunate that an establishment in such a prime location fails to provide even the most fundamental levels of courtesy and kindness.

For a place that makes you buy something to use the restroom, you could clean it every once in a while. Gas station restrooms are cleaner than this, likely a health code violation

It was just an all-around bad experience. I'll make sure to tell my friends not to patronize this store. They don't deserve our money.

Cute little cafe across the street from the Cave store.
My sister and I came in for a quick bite. We got a $4 lemon bar, matcha latte and Arnold Palmer at around 11am.
I think everything was pretty reasonably priced. The tables were relatively clean. Sadly the bathroom was not great even that early early in the morning. It’s a heavily trafficked area since people are going to the caves and the sea lions but it wasn’t crowded when we arrived.

I’d give this place 5 stars but a dirty bathroom really turned me off. The view here is beautiful though. Just beware of seagulls waiting for food. DO NOT FEED THEM.

Love it! The worker was super friendly, the food yummy, and lots of drink options. The cherry limeade is a perfect sweet tart taste. And you can’t beat the view!

Great view, food is good but not so many options, too pricey but make sense, you are mainly paying for the view not the food

Came for a drink and guy at counter was very kind.
Views are wonderful ...
Needed to use bathroom.... WOW.
This is the grossest bathroom I've EVER seen or smelled at any restaurant. Reeks like urine and there is pee soaked toilet paper all around the back of toilet.... really nasty. You can tell the bathroom has been filthy for a very long time... this is not just from today. Glad I did not eat anything here because the bathroom at a restaurant says a lot about their kitchen. This is just unacceptable for a restaurant and management needs to get on this.
