They were closing the facility so I don't know if that's why our experience was bad. My husband had egg shells in his food twice, mine had no flavor, it just wasn't an overall good experience like it normally is.
We always eat at this restaurant to be honest half of the time the service is good and half is bad. But today the hostess was so rude. Yes, I made a reservation last minute and booked a bar table, everything else was unavailable except outdoor. From the time my husband and I arrived, the hostess was so rude. Omg even though I had a reservation she told me she didn't have a table for us. She said is either outside or you can wait around 40 minutes. We decided to take the outside table which btw was so cold and loud with all the cars and people walking by your side. After 10 minutes we got very disturbed once we realized that she was sending all the Hispanics outside. I never knew this restaurant was racist. Wow! We went back and talk to another hostess not the blonde with short hair from first time. This other hostess was much nicer and when I told her we were freezing outside and that I had a reservation at the bar she immediately gave us a table at the bar. The server was so nice. She actually made up for all the inconveniences we had. The food today was dry (French toast logs ) the bacon and blueberries almost inexistent . It was a very unpleasant breakfast today only for the server. She was lovely attentive and very helpful!
Everyone in my family has been and raves about it. I went this morning and ordered the House Smoked Beef Brisket Hash. Not sure what constitutes 'smoked' but the brisket was less than ordinary. Albeit tender it had zero flavor. While I'm sure it wasn't, l'd of sworn it was boiled, but perhaps they keep it in some flavorless liquid because it sure wasn't flavorful in the least. The grilled bread had marks but otherwise no grill flavor and it was like I pulled a slice off the counter. Very ordinary. My daughter has been before and loves it and had the Silver Dollar Pancakes and said they were nothing special. Service was great but based on food I'd have no reason to return. I will however based on everyone's feedback but without that and based on the food today, nope. But next time I'm trying some of the decadent looking items as that seems to be what most rave about. Oh, bacon was good. :-) Order
Love the menu. Love the food. The place is super noisy so hard to hear / carry on a conversation. Our server was very nice but hardly checked on us - we had to track her down when one person in our party didn't get their food then again when we had been ready for a while for the check. Sadly it looks like this location is closing later this month
The server we had was fantastic! I believe his name was Nicholas. He was attenuative and nice. We had a decent size party for my office's Christmas party and he handled us like a pro! Thanks for turning on the heater for us!
First impression was awful. Arrived early so proceeded to use restroom. As I was Walking towards restroom I could see into the kitchen and observed two employees goofing around grabbing on each other's bodies. When I entered the restroom I immediately noticed how dirty and unkept it was. The toilet seat in the handicap stall was so loose I almost fell off the toilet. I came out and was taken to our table and immediately noticed food crumbs all over the benches of our booth. The hostess didn't make us feel very welcome and it was at that point I decided to get up and leave. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time and because the prices are very high and I was already disappointed I did not want to be upset over the possibility of receiving lousy food. I was probably more uncomfortable with knowing that the two goofing off in the kitchen we're gonna be the ones making my food as well. I just don't get it and I question management.
I ordered the salmon and it came to me raw. Not undercooked but raw. They apologized and brought it out again. It was again raw. The server expressed frustration that they were messing up the order but by the time I got edible food, everyone else was done with their meals.
Our drinks were not good. You couldn't take a sip without your entire mouth and throat burning. Our food was not the greatest, only the chorizo was good. The beignets were on the tougher side.
The hostess argued with me about my reservation where she said it was for inside. Started to argue with me! There was no special selection through Open Table for inside or out. I asked for outside when I arrived. Food served cold; average taste. Too crowded.
We love the La Jolla location. The ambiance is always nice and service is great too!! We always order the French toast logs and chilaquiles..... they never disappoint. The waiters and waitress are awesome. Thank you Briana (our waitress) for a great experience!!

Unfortunately it was not what I had hoped for despite the fabulous menu I had been wanting to experience. SERIOUS issues with little gnats and flies. Swarming, landing in your food. What a shame. They put some fans in to try and deal with it but they have a real problem to solve there. Hello San Diego Vector Control? Health Dept? Did see they have a few health violations in their Yelp write up. To make things worse, a member of the waitstaff said the insect infestation was because the city had been doing some work on a sewage project across the way, which dislodged them. Won't go back to this one. Staff seemed slightly annoyed that customers were annoyed. Everyone was shooing their food. Maybe will try one of their other locations. Too many other options at UTC where you don't have gnats & flies landing in your food. I'm not picky or one to complain but this was just wrong and needs attention. Lots of unattended tables that needed clearing, which added to the insect attraction. I know, real bummer. And no, the meal was not free.We couldn't eat the humus b cause the gnats landed in it, so they didn't charge us for that. Too bad.
We had reservation and it took 15 minutes to be seated even when tables were available. Our server only came to our table 2-3 times, never checked if we needed something else after they brought the food. Love this place overall but i think they need to work in their customer service.
The location, ambience, food and service were remarkable! An excellent dining experience. Our group of 8 physical fitness fanatics enjoyed Sunday Brunch at Great Maple UTC/La Jolla and our waiter was amazing!!! His patience, recommendations, attentiveness and great smile made our dining experience memorable!
Lovely ambiance, friendly service and timely waiters. The fried chicken was very dry and I also ordered a kale salad that had way too much dressing. I have been here before and was trying something different. I was a bit disappointed. It depends on your choices . I would still go again for sure and request dressing on the side ?
Had a reservation and had to wait for a table still. Our sitting did not accommodate 5 people well at all. The table we were seated at, every time the wind blew, tiny leaves and dust would land all over the table and food. The food took over an hour to be served and it was served cold. We understand that it was a busy brunch morning but a hour wait for cold food is unacceptable. We will not be dinning here again and definitely don't recommend it to anyone else. Save your money and time!
