Ramen was super salty and they grill their chicken giving it a char taste in the ramen. Edamame had a garlic paste that tasted like Alfredo sauce instead of actual garlic. The orange chicken was decent. Water was tap water. We were sat outside and had to ask 3 times to turn on the heater. Sushi didn’t automatically come out with wasabi or ginger. By the time it came out my brother was already done with his sushi.

We decided to try this sushi place (normally we go to places like Sushi Kushi or Sushi Deli 3).

Unfortunately we did not have a great experience. Maybe it was just a bad night / chef but the food was unimpressive especially given the price.

The ginger edamame appetizer was disappointing... they put kind of a ginger gravy/cream on top which was lacking.

The preparation of the Sushi rolls was lacking. The presentation was definitely off. The rice didn't seem to have been made correctly and was falling off the rolls. The rolls were falling apart. I had the spicey yellowtail; this tasted very plain. The dragon roll and shrimp tempera roll were also too sweet, like soaked in sugar. The shrimp tempura roll was also really sloppy.

We were seated in the outdoor area, which would be fine but this also had problems, like the canopy having a gaping hole torn in it.

Also, the service was slow. We were waiting what felt like forever to finally get our Sushi rolls, so long I found myself idly snacking on the soy sauce. A big disappointment then when the rolls finally came looking and tasting how they did.

The photos are after we ate a couple but pretty much they looked like this when we got there.

Not sure why our experience was bad when the ratings are good. If I paid half the price it would have been acceptable, but this quality for $15 - $23 sushi rolls is really quite bad.

We don't plan to come back to this one.

The GM has been servicing customers for almost a decade and it shows. Outstanding food, great atmosphere, appropriate pricing and friendly service. We found them online coincidentally prior to knowing they were voted top sushi in San Diego. Title for the food is well deserved and an award for his service should be on deck.

Best sushi in SD! Get a roll (or 3) and fruit infused sake to have a good night. Chicken Katsu is bomb too.

Been going here for the last 15 years - this is my favorite sushi spot in San Diego. Good prices and super fresh sushi. I noticed some menu items have changed but the taste hasn’t. Highly recommend

Great cozy place! In the middle of old town, perfect change of pace from the vast majority of Mexican restaurants. The sushi was amazing!! Went during happy hour and tried the roll sampler and pork gyoza. The sampler comes with crab, spicy tuna and California rolls! They were perfectly made and served with fresh ginger and wasabi! The gyoza was delicious and served with a special dipping sauce. It was just the right amount! Not too much but just enough. The service was good we were seated right away our server took our order and was fairly friendly. The place is a little dark and dim the building is old but nice. The bathrooms are in the back and outside. There is street parking if you're lucky or paid parking lots all around. Would love to come back and try more. I live in San Diego and come to Old Town often and it was my first time trying this place. There's a cute market right outside the restaurant on the weekends.

I LOVE HARNEY'S!
Maverick is such an awesome server, and he always recommends the BEST items. I haven't had a single thing I didn't like from there. He is always accommodating to my shrimp allergy. Always go at least once a week! It is true that it is called the best sushi in san diego!

Vegetarian options: try the spicy juan. super fire super dope

Do not eat here, the owner doesn't hire or like fat people.

I’ve eaten at this restaurant many times before but seems like quality isn’t always the same, next time I’m just going to buy sashimi from the seafood market, I’m very disappointed at the amount of food I received today

Used to be my favorite sushi spot but I feel like the quality has gone downhill a bit. Definitely had one bad experience sitting at the bar. You used to not be able to get in now it's wide open usually. Some of their rolls are still pretty good though.
