Hi, the guys were cool and chill working that day. But, when I went 1-2 weeks ago…. My latte had an after taste of cigarettes. I don’t know if it’s a dirty machine or if the espresso is burnt. But, I couldn’t shake the feeling and had to make this unfortunate review for a head’s up, as to what’s going on. . . The guys were cool, though.
Edit: Came back 12/19/25 & my Chai Latte had No Taste. :( I always the same drink….. But, & ordered 3 bags of tea bags and the chai is very faint and it tastes like only milk :( . The lady working was cool though :) And, I never knew there was an upstairs… The shop is very Cool and I love the ambiance. I remember when this spot was the Living Room. I like how the shop reminds me a little of the Living Room in La Jolla w its red vampire like walls. My visit Today was 4 Stars. But, due to the previous visit, I will have to even it out and put 3 stars. :/
I think this coffee shop desperately needs a makeover, it’s a bunch of brown chairs and brown tables. They need to make it warm, cozy and inviting and add some comfy soft seating. Come up with a new design/layout/charging stations for folks/students/workers. And what’s with the sphinx? Needs a revamp. It’s been the same for agessssss. SOMEONE PLZ INVEST IN THIS PLACE. IT HAS SOO MUCH POTENTIAL.
I’ve been going to lestats since I was just a child really. I haven’t been since 2018 maybe when we moved. But I can tell you I’ve known horrible humans in my life not by choice. But fate led me to John a sweet gay man who ran a 24/7 coffee house. And I’ve loved coffee since age 5. When times were hard a lonely girl could get a hot cup of coffee and use the wifi even and hang out. John took in many of us. I was one of the pre 98-2006 post crew that practically lived here. Idk why John never charged us rent he truly should’ve! Hell he probably could’ve for our cars even. I was pregnant here. They fed me when I was hungry. They kept us warm in the cold months. Lestats was always a shelter in the storm we call life. I was but a passenger for a while. John let me park my Honda accord out back for some time when an alternator wasn’t the only problem even. When I think of angels and I think of gods I think of folks like John. They gave us life without even knowing it. My daughters 20 this year and we’re both alive because of John’s goodness and kindness he has a huge heart most have no clue. He’s just the sweetest man. He was a woven interact part of my life. He’s one of those people who is why I am here today. Because when I needed a safe place in the storm we call life. I could lean on Lestats and John. Whom I knew well. To think my neighbor would lead me here he worked there eventually and was a lady’s man 😂 Travis was his name and I laugh cuz I knew that boy from just a little boy. To see him become a man and even a dad around when I was a mom. Seemed then something was surely in the water 😂 or so we’d all joked. Maybe it was just knowing we had a safe place to land for awhile that truly helped us all survive. But a huge part of that was John! So thank you John. Idk if you remember me or not. But I was that blonde girl with short hair and a damaged heart. 90s-2006 was my life there then I’d come when I was in town very rare then. But I always loved your veggie chili and your sandwiches. And the coffee ☕️ gosh if I miss anything from San Diego it’s Lestats and their amazing teas and coffee and food. Because when I had no home even I always had a safe place to go when the storm of life was crushing me. I met a boy in 2006 and disappeared really. But John was always like family for me. So I wanna thank him for being the light in the dark for a young street kid. Who didn’t have much but I always had enough for a cup of coffee and some safe space to enjoy it. I know it’s been 20 yrs because my baby is 20 now. But we wouldn’t be here without John. Thank you for being a safe place for us in life’s storms.
One of the best coffee shops I've been to. Great service, friendly staff, and great location. All around awesome.

Staff were very unfriendly. Latte was lukewarm when asked for it to be heated barista looked at me like I was a roach and informed me that it would be unsanitary to do so. Had my foot resting on a chair while drinking my lukewarm drink and the cashier told me to get my feet off of the furniture. Nothing to terrible but enough to where I was uncomfortable and won’t come back. There are 5 other coffee shops in walking distance.
Looove coming here to study❤️

I loved the decor at this place! The coffee is really good, plus they have some clearly marked vegan desserts. I saw tea cookies and cupcakes. The cupcake was honestly one of the best I’ve had. They stay open pretty late too, which is a plus.
Is right next R Place. A lot of bagel and croissant sandwiches and vegan options like the vegan sausage and avocado then sweets I recommend the vegan coconut macaroons. There is a poster board area by the door for community events. I vome here every so often for MeetUp.com. Very relaxed environment to use your computer downstairs or upstairs be near the eclectic nostalgia fun ☺️. Thank you!

Really want to like this place. Late night coffee shop! Yay.
But it failed on all the important stuff. Spiced chai latte was just hot milk. No comfy seating. The brownie was terrible. Waited ages to be served.
Maybe it’s just not their night
Worst Lestat's in the chain! Music is entirely too loud and they are OBSESSED with country. I mean what is that? It screams rainbow capitalism but also forced. What are they trying to convey here?
Outside of that it's ok. If you want to study here just know your noise cancelling headphones can only do so much. If you need a charge spot, there are plenty. The crowd size is low in the mornings. Overall you can skip here unless you are desperate for a new coffee shop.
