Reliable LJ dinner spot consistently serving pleasing food in two nostalgic, comfortable rooms. Also special for the original LJ Whaler ice cream cocktail ? Excellent pre-concert choice.

I had the filet mignon Oscar, it was delicious and a very thick cut. With it, was asparagus and carrots and they were both very delicious as well.

Manhattan is a wonderful place to go for an upscale dining experience. The food is excellent as is the service. My family and I have celebrated special occasions there and plan on continuing to do so in the future.

This is an excellent, old-school Italian restaurant hidden in a small hotel in the heart of downtown La Jolla! I've lived in San Diego for years but never knew about Manhattan of La Jolla until a friend recommended it. Do you know how hard it is to find a restaurant these days that is QUIET? OMG... such a delight (and a relief)! If you don't like it quiet, you can sit in the lounge area with live music that's not too overwhelming. If you prefer a quiet experience, ask to be seated in the booths away from the music. We recommend the tableside Caesar salad. The cannelloni and spinach and cheese ravioli were both excellent. The waiter was friendly, funny, and knowledgeable. He also boxed up our leftovers. This doesn't seem like much, but it is a rare service in restaurants these days and was appreciated. GREAT evening!

This restaurant is great for drinks, and a nice dinner while you chat! The live piano really adds to the ambiance of the place. For food, we've ordered the caesar salad table-side service, alfredo fettucine, and steak florentine. All 10/10. Portions are really big! So consider sharing or come with an empty stomach. The servers are incredibly kind and attentive!

I have been eating here while in La Jolla for over 15 years. I found that their Italian food was the best on the west coast. I judged every one else by them. My wife and I came down here to celebrate our anniversary and made reservations for two nights in a row. We had not been here in for about 3 years so we were really looking forward to the experience. How disappointing it was. First off I used to love the New York and associated classic art work on the walls. Some remains but some of the replacement pieces do not go with the original vibe this place had. Why did they do this? Second, we have always eaten the Caesar salad prepared at the table. Also, some of the best anywhere. They changed the recipe and also left out the anchovies. It was mediocre at best. Third, the best cannelloni I have ever tasted used to be made with a mixture of beef and veal with sauces that were epic. They have since added pork with the beef and veal. I don't eat pork and I can't imagine why they would add pork unless it's a cost savings by adding a cheaper meat. I ended up eating the Filet mignon which was very good but my wife settled for the cheese and spinach ravioli which was tasteless. The sauces have changed. The service was friendly but just average. Years ago it was top notch. Professional. Knowledgeable. We canceled our second night reservation. What a shame that this place has gone down so far. The only bright spot was the older gentleman serving the bread. We had recognized him from the past and found that he has been there 35 years! What a gem he is!

A very enjoyable evening. We requested a quiet table and were seated in the back of the dining room. Food, wine, service were great. Caesar salad prepared table side was a nice touch.

Very cool restaurant. Love the old school ambience. From Illinois and reminded me of Chicago Italian restaurants. Food and service was great. Stayed at hotel and ambience seemed to not quite match the hotel.

Very good service, as always. Husband had the veal chop Milanese which was delicious. I had veal piccata. I requested light sauce on the piccata but it was heavy and not hot enough as was pasta. But, still enjoyable and will continue to go back!
