This used to be our favorite breakfast place in San Diego. The service is still great, and it's a fun place for the atmosphere and people watching in South Park. However, the food now is nconsistent, and leaning more towards bad. We both had omelets that were brown and overcooked. The toast was boring and tasteless. This isn't Waffle House. The toast should be so good that you don't have to smother it with butter and jam. The biggest surprise was that this time, the potatoes were not dry and poorly seasoned. If it weren't for the servers and location/atmosphere, we would have written Matteos off months ago.

I feel like the quality has really gone down - the last time I'd eaten here was maybe 2-3 years ago, and the menu back had better options, and it was an enjoyable experience. Lunch there today was pretty lackluster, with remarkably slow service. Every step of the process took a long time, and I ended up having to get up and find someone for our check because we'd waited a long time and couldn't get anyone's attention any other way. My poached eggs were overdone, my partner's burrito was just very generic tasting, and we really wished we'd gone somewhere else. It's a shame. I used to enjoy coming here (if the same baker is still making almond croissants, that should still be amazing!), but I don't think I'll try again.

If I could, I'd make a drive to this spot every weekend from Anaheim! The atmosphere, the breeze, the warm and welcoming staff, and certainly the food will make you want to return more than frequently. Made it to their breakfast brunch on a weekday morning, so it was not a fully packed house yet. And whether you sit indoors or outdoors, you'll find this to be a very cozy and comfortable place. And they also seem to be fairly pet friendly as well.
Parking would be the one little thing to really watch out for when coming here. The streets around this restaurant offer only paid parking, but at least the meters are easy to understand and use, and are also decently priced.
So far I've only been able to visit this location once, but I'm looking forward to becoming an out-of-town regular here!

This simple, delicious, and high quality brunch is exactly what I was looking for since I hadn’t had an appetite all throughout my trip. I spent $25 on the Salmon Benedict and a side of sausage. I was on a time crunch but already knowing what I wanted, I was able to be in and out in 30 minutes (Saturday at 1pm). No, I didn’t announce my urgency so this place was naturally efficient. Thank you Maria for your help.

Love this cute lil spot. Jane was our server. I've never felt more welcomed in my life. Coffee is also phenomenal. Apparently it's shipped from a long line of generational coffee growers in Italy.

Wonderful service and food! The female host is so amicable and cheerful and speaks with thick Italian accent, she was so nice and joyful when greeting us to the restaurant. We love the lobster Benedict! Perfect outdoor/indoor space for brunch.

I Dined here for lunch with spouse and child.
Reservations are not needed, and there is plenty of seating in this breakfast-lunch restaurant.

It’s a spacious dining room, with open windows and doors for a good breeze on a summer day. Unfortunately, the flies are really bad in the summer. There are battery operated fly swatters to put on the tables.

My husband ate a large hot sandwich with a side of greens, and chips. I had a large Cesar salad with plain grilled salmon on the side. The croutons are house made and very good.
There is no children’s menu, so my toddler had a trio of hamburger sliders that were topped with cheese & guacamole. He was only capable of eating one slider, so we took the other two sliders home. The food is better than average.

Addicted to Mateos! Incredible food, amazing charity, excellent service. The only thing is it can get kind of loud and cold because of the industrial vibe. However, I recommend this place to everyone.

Poor customer service, poorly staffed. My wife and I waited several minutes before an employee sitting got off her cell phone. Seated us outside. Nobody came by, after 10 minutes we went elsewhere to eat. Other issues when I went to the bakery counter.

Best brewed coffee in South Park! My wife and I have tried all the cafes in South Park for the last several years and Matteo’s regular brewed coffee is the best! We usually drank lattes at other places but once we tried Matteo’s regular coffee it is amazing! Great pastry and breakfast selection. Cool vibes, nice music, great staff, and doggie friendly. This is our go-to place and we highly recommend!!! Only wish they stayed open longer. Wifey and I would love to have an evening coffee and dessert but all the coffee shops close too early in South Park. See you at Matteo’s neighbor!
