Awful waitlist experience, over an hour

Wow, this place is NOT good. The portions are tiny and the value is awful. The spicy miso ramen came with literally one super thin slice of meat. I paid $2 extra for an egg, and honestly, if I hadn’t, this wouldn’t even qualify as a meal. That’s how little food you get for a $21 bowl of ramen.
I’m seriously disappointed after wanting to try this place for weeks. The taste is fine, maybe a 7/10, but nothing special at all. Barely a step above packaged ramen. How this place is rated so highly is beyond me.

They only let people into the restaurant in batches. They had to wait until probably 60-70% of the tables were empty before letting a large wave of people waiting outside into the restaurant. I wonder what type of strategy this was? Was this intentional? What were the benefits of serving customers this way?
There were 4 people making food in kitchen and 4 waiters. When the number of empty tables were about 60-70%, the waiters seemed to just running around doing unproductive tasks, clean tables here and there, filling water, staking cups, refilling more chopsticks, etc. There were so many wait-listed customers outside speculating to why so many empty tables were available for a good amount of time.
What added up to the frustration shared by a lot of customers was that the Yelp waitlist told them the wait time was 1-11 minutes but in reality they had been waiting for a good 1 hour or even more. I stood there listening to their conversations and shared the same feeling.
I think this is a clear example of a poorly run restaurant.
Food was alright. I had better ramen and fried chicken elsewhere. I share the same opinion as some of the reviews here that the amount of salt should be reduced. The food left me very thirsty. The one positive thing was that food was served quickly. I appreciate this aspect very much. Only if they optimize the way the handle the wait-list and sitting people they would have served more customers and generated more profit. I hope the owner or manager of this restaurant read this review and take it seriously to improve the business. I won't come back and will try ramen from a different restaurant for now.

The fried chicken with the ramen is not crispy, lots of oil under the chicken and the soup tastes only salty but not flavorful. The pork inside the ramen is so thin and tastes like boiled pork. The menu options are not very limited. Very disappointing.

I don’t go to ramen restaurants often because the broth is too salty for my taste. This one is no exception. We ordered a kids meal, #3 Tonkotsu Chashu and spicy Miso. The noodle texture was good but the broth was salty and spicy (spicy level was ok but too salty). The kids meal came with chicken katsu and fries. We had to send them back in because they were cold and looked like have been sitting there for a while. They brought us fresh ones later after i asked.
We waited for 20-30 min to get in and then waited just to get some drinking water to start. The check came pretty quickly though! Unfortunately this is not the Michelin restaurant standard that I expected.

12/17/2025 - I love that Menya Ultra has a live-waitlist. We planned on going to an early dinner at 6:30pm wait list was 55-63 min wait. No problem so we decided to drive around Poway to check out Christmas lights. We arrived at Menya Ultra 8:30pm no wait we got sat right away. Ordered, fast service I love ramen especially Tonkotsu it has lot's of flavors delicious and were out by 9:03pm. Leftovers was great for breakfast :)

Not nearly as busy as the clairmont location. Was able to get a seat for my whole party even tho we missed our reservations. And staff was polite even though there was a slight inconvenience because we were coming from 20 minutes south.

Truly superb ramen! I've had a lot and this is one of the best. The egg was easily the best I've had and amazing flavour to the broth.

Great food, decent prices especially for San Diego, can definitely see why they got their Michelin star. Waitress unfortunately forgot one of my orders for their karaage which is something we were really excited for. Ramen was fantastic though!

I hate giving bad reviews, unfortunately for this location it was needed. I and my family travel from temecula because of the good pictures and reviews. Well once we got a table and ordered, the waiter served us water in dirty cups and when we mentioned it all he did was pour the water onto a new cup instead of serving fresh water. The other issue was we all ordered eggs on our ramen and the eggs were cold as if they were just thawed out. Unfortunately we wont return again.

Years later, and I'm still thinking about that perfect fried chicken. The raman was great, but that fried chicken was something I was not prepared for.
