Bland and unseasoned. I was very hopeful going into ordering here but man did it disappoint. The katsu was SO dry and tough. I haven't had a meal this bad in a very long time
šļøššļøcame here 3 different times:
Got the hamburger set the first time it was p good
Second time they were out of rice, would appreciate if they could tell me before I pay :,3 end up replacing w/ veggie udon (ok) & pork rice next door (good)
This time we tried oyakodon, made it a combo ~$15, but it can only come with miso or salad, so I added the salad for $2 > ~$17. The first bite seems ok, but the rice below was clumped tgh with too much water. Miso soup barely has miso flavor, and the one piece of tofu tasted sour
You can still come here for the vibes, but the place next door is more consistent with quality

The miso soup is too sharp, the bowls have too much rice even the mini ones with almost no meat, the katsu wasnt cery crispy and there was just barely any flavour in that bowl.

Decided to satisfy our Japanese cravings at Musashiya while shopping some Japanese snack at Mitsuwa Marketplace
Tempura shrimp and veg were crispy and fresh. Itās light too and tastes really good.
I was just expecting more with the price we paid versus the size of the shrimp especially just coming back from Japan vacation. Inflation right?
Surprised the Gyudon having glass noodles added. I might be wrong but might be used as meal extender? Iām just guessing here.
The sliced meat was tender, onions not too overcooked and the sweet and savory sauce is just the right amount of sweetness. I wish they have the option of ordering poached egg that goes with the meal.
They offer military discount which is great. Staff were friendly. Will comeback and try their other dishes and hoping will be way better.

Udon is good. I ordered a Zaru-Udon. Udon noodles is good as same as Japanese one. But...I'm very strict for Udon. Green onions are too big. It's Americanized. Wasabi is too hot. It's Americanized. In addition, too small for American but you can buy something at the Mitsuwa.

The food was excellent, prepared fast, and was absolutely delicious. Fair pricing and exemplary customer service by a young woman.

We LOVE this place so much! Whenever we are in SD we have to have lunch here! Our go-to is the pork tonkatsu plate and the agedashi tofu. On point...

I love going to this grocery store⦠But I donāt think that this restaurant is up to par with other restaurants in the area. I went to both of Mitsuwaās restaurants and got a aburi chasiu bowl from the other establishment - YUM!
From Musashiya, I ordered the Mini-Katsu Don bowl, and was disappointed. All of the breading fell off the meat - all of it! It was gross and nearly inedible. Basically what I got was a boiled chicken rice bowl topped with egg/breading clumps
Breading should not completely fall off, this is a sign of poor food handling &/or chef skills - both pretty important in a restaurant setting.
I was going to say something but the host didnāt really give off hospitable vibes from the get-go.
For example,
When I got my food, I noticed there was no spoon for the included miso (one positive thing about the katsu don is that it comes with Miso soup), I asked the host if I may have a spoon and they told me people usually drink from the cup and was seemingly-reluctant to grab a spoon for my meal⦠I may be reading into it. But I felt like I was a burden to the staff, asking for a spoon when served a soup.
Rather than alerting the staff about my observations, I simply will not go there anymore.
The value perhaps would have been amazing if the Katsu Don was prepared properly.

This review is for just the udon as I've never tried anything else: This has been my go to spot for udon ever since my childhood udon spot sold out. Unfortunately, Musashiya has raised their prices (forgivable on its own) and as of late the broth has an undeniable flavor of tap water. Under these circumstances when I have a craving for wet noodles I'm just going to go get Pho. Sad to see another udon spot rendered not worth the price or detour.
The tempura is always top notch and has saved them from a 1 star review.

Last week 7/19/2024, was the worst staff and service, I have ever experienced. I will not definitely come back and also advise customers to think twice going to this place unless they hire a mature , considerate staff. That night bunch of kids working and obviously, could care less. It was only 6:30pm, they close at 8pm, but they stopped taking order because they run out of rice. An Asian Japanese restaurant running out of rice. The kids messed up my order and offered to refund me. Ok, I was refunded but today I checked my charge on my account, they reversed the charge. Not only they have a terrible service, they are even robbing their customers! SHAME ON YOU. If you promise to refund due to bad service and in correct order, don't try to take back the charge! Keep giving this kind of service, and I know you will not be around any longer for business due to your bad business practice and customer service!

Yuzu soba or udon always great here, nice and refreshing chewy firm bites with satisfying portions. Love the convenience of an easy meal next to a quick grocery stop.
