Went there to get a gender reveal baked item as my wife wanted me to surprise her this way. Asked for something stuffed with color but person assisting didn’t want to do any work. I made it easy for her as she can fill and eclair or doughnut with cream but refused. She said she got me; can back and all she did was put some cream on top of a doughnut which is not a surprise, need someone to work there that actually cares about customer and go above and beyond to make you happy instead of receiving such a review

When I saw the four plus star reviews I was hopeful. I ordered several things and I'm really sad to say it was across the board awful.

Ordered a cheddar jalapeno bagel that wasn't a bagel. If that thing was boiled before being baked, I will eat my hat. It's a pretty decent biscuit, but it is no bagel. No chew. It also left an odd aftertaste of too much baking soda. I believe they use King Arthur flour as it had a sort of brownish purplish tone.

I tried a sample of the maple log, and that had an aftertaste of artificial sweetener which it is labeled to contain, so that's fair. It was very dense and very sweet.

I tried a donut, which apparently used the same flour mix as the bagel. It was dense and sweet and yes it also had an aftertaste of soda and sort of a weird greasy mouth feel. I do not believe it was deep fried so it wasn't that. A ring-shaped pan does not a donut make!

I did not order a cookie, as they were big spread out flat things. I was taught that when you bake cookies you use cold ingredients to avoid spread. Apparently the baker missed that class.

The scone had so much baking soda in it that it burned. I drank water and it kept burning and then I started burping.

Whoever the baker is they are not knowledgeable of the science behind gluten free baking, or baking in general. I figured in a big city like San Diego I'd find some good gluten-free, but I didn't.

Really great stuff at Phatties

My wife and I hired Phatties to bake our wedding cake this past weekend. We could not be more impressed with how mazing and delicious our cake was. I am vegan and my wife had allergies so finding a cake that would be good for us both was kind of difficult. We presented a picture of our desired wedding cake and requested it to be made vegan, gluten free, coconut and almond free. Phatties not only nailed the color, design and declarations to a t, the cake was absolutely delicious, and all of our non vegan guests that it tasted amazing. Thank you so much for making us the best cake possible. We are so happy to have found your bakery and would recommend you to anyone.

Phattie’s on Voltaire Street is hands-down the vegan haven I’ve been searching for! As a vegan, finding a place that serves food that’s actually tasty (and not just a sad pile of lettuce) is like finding a unicorn riding a skateboard—rare, magical, and downright impressive! But Phattie’s absolutely nails it, especially with their baked goods. I’m talking about pastries so good they make you forget dairy ever existed, and cakes that could convert even the most skeptical carnivore. If you’re tired of asking, “Is there butter in that?” only to be met with blank stares, this is your spot. Phattie’s proves that vegan treats can be outrageously delicious, and they do it with a whole lot of style and flavor.

Cute place, great ambiance, and delicious cupcakes! It’s hard to believe their cupcakes are vegan - moist, not too sweet, and free from nuts and gluten. This place is a distance from home, but worth the drive for a tasty, vegan treat or beverage. The Ube 4 Daze iced drink is amazing! My mouth is watering just writing this review; definitely worth it to try this place out!

I ordered a cake for my sister’s birthday and it was SO good!!! Best vegan cake we’ve had. She loved it and it made her birthday extra special. The service was excellent and the person who handed me the cake was kind and sweet and shared with me directions on how to chill, unbox and serve the cake. Thank you so much ??!!!

Came here after my 6am spin class and found this gem of a coffee shop that happened to be open at this ungodly hour. I was welcomed by Julian! He has the sweetest smile and was so helpful with me being so indecisive. He took the time to explain everything to me in detail and how to modify it to my liking! Thank you so much Julian, I will be back!

This review is long overdue! I had a great experience at this place, and Julian was awesome! Everything is gluten-free! Thank you, Julian, for going above and beyond with your service! :-) I will be back when I visit SD again.

Most dishes are celiac friendly, but some dishes contain oats, so probably not celiac safe for celiac individuals.
