This restaurant is no longer open. The condition of the handwritten paper sign on the door indicates it has been closed for a while. OpenTable should not permit this restaurant to even show in the app, much less be able to make a reservation. We drove all the way to this location for a reservation that I made in OpenTable.
booked through OpenTable and received a confirmation but once we showed up to the restaurant it was permanently closed!
This restaurant is permanently closed. I was very disappointed to show up for the reservation that I had made on Open Table to learn this and even more frustrated that there didn't appear to be a way to report this to Open Table to prevent this from happening to others.
Pummaro is my go to in Point Loma. The ambience is nice, Jared and the rest of the staff are beyond awesome, and the food is delicious. You will never go wrong eating here!
I gotta say, super duper disappointed. I get it, it’s 2024 and hard to find employees, but man, the lack of employees is really the least of the problems here. Table didn’t get cleared of plates (even appetizers) until we were paying the check. The servers were friendly, but the restaurant wasn’t packed at all, but when you have only 2 servers, that’s going to cause issues regardless.
The meatball appetizers are ok. Microscopic but ok. The calamari was meh. It was a huge portion.
My biggest issues were with the pizzas. We ordered 5 of them to try since we hadn’t been before. As one reviewer noted “how are they burnt and soggy at the same time??” I’ve had Neapolitan pizza before, and the dough is definitely not supposed to taste soggy and underdone. My dining partner aptly observed that it could be that their pizzas come with too many toppings and the moisture from them overwhelms the dough. Whatever the cause, I’d say the pizza was a huge let down. Toppings would slide off the pizzas when you pulled them away (yes I know about the flop” with Neapolitan pizzas but this felt excessive). And the ones with burnt dough just added to the disappointment. I wouldn’t come back.
Lastly, the ambiance has like a higher-end Fillipis vibe. Not a rustic, casual but comfortable Buona Forchetta vibe.

Place was disappointing. I called in a takeout order and was pleased that it was on the lower price side compared to other places in the area. Turns out that wasn’t the case, and the menu on their website just hadn’t been updated in years. Each item was $4-5 more than it said online. I paid $58 for two very small pizzas and calamari, and the food wasn’t even good. The pizza was somehow soggy and burnt at the same time, and the calamari was also soggy. The flavors were there, but they don’t seem to know how to actually cook the food right. I will not be back. Also one of the servers said she had tried telling the manager about the price discrepancy multiple times but he hasn’t fixed it - feels like it’s on purpose to lure people in with the expectation of a reasonably priced meal.

Very much enjoyed a birthday dinner for my wife. The server was very attentive and helpful. The food was great - I had a calzone and my wife had the gnocchi.
The food was AMAZING!!! The pizza was so authentic and the artichoke hearts were to die for and the salads are so unique and delicious. It was our first time and it was so good-we thought we were in Italy! We will be back! Thank you!
Super fun & polite service. Tasty food with unique recipes. Wood-fired pizzas! Inside was noisy until a large table left. Cool ambience by the pizza oven. Bathrooms need some TLC....

At an airport hotel, I Googled Italian restaurants close by and found that Pummarò was highly rated. We were not prepared for how good this food is. The pizza was perfectly cooked with delicious, half meatballs on it. We also ordered tortellini bolognese and gnocchi pesto, which were awesome.
The staff kindly helped me get my order and I regretted ordering to-go when I saw the restaurant in person!
