There is absolutely nothing special about this place, premixed cocktails, lobster potstickers couldn't taste the lobster and quite frankly they felt like they were premade and frozen, I had the red snapper. The preparation was subpar and the vegetables were something I could make it home. The server was not knowledgeable about the menu and in any way. When I asked upon check-in if I had any dietary restrictions, I advised the hostess of those restrictions and then the wait staff had no idea what to do with those restrictions. Manager even stopped by the table, asked how things were going, I provided her some feedback about my concerns about no one, knowing whether or not there was heavy cream in a sauce, and she didn't seem to know any more than the wait staff did. Overall, the most expensive meal I had in San Diego and by far the worst.
Roy's is generally a safe a predictable choice. You know what to expect and you generally get it. Food is generally good but not exceptional- but was as expected. Service is adult and professional. Good choice since I didn't want to uber to a restaurant.
They seemed bothered to have to serve us being at table of 11 even though the restaurant was pretty empty. Would only take three payments
terrible experience. took almost 2 hours to get out meal. they overbooked a large party and everybody suffered for it. Not enough help and kitchen could not handle it. Good arrived cold and taste of food was poor
Our server Bree and staff were awesome. The staff surprised us with an anniversary chocolate lava cake. Would come back again!!!
The waitress was very helpful with deciding drinks and always checked up on us, especially for a date night. And the food was delicious, especially the sauces. We've always come to Roy's and we're never disappointed.
Service was very slow. Several walked by and no one said they would be right with us. For being higher end dining, there's no bread offered. Lobster Bisque was watery. Food was brought out at different intervals so others had to wait till the rest of the table got their food. Wait was so long that that we had to waive the waiter down to let him know some of the food hadn't been received. about 10 minutes later, they finally came with it.
Wonderful food, great service. Really loud when the restaurant is full of pre-concert going guests. As soon as people were leaving to head over to the concert at the Rady Shell, the noise level went down to a very comfortable level.
We visited before a concert at Rady's Shell. The food was good, but no longer as the good old days. Drinks were great. The place looks good and is in a great location Unfortunately, the service was slow, and we were 20 minutes late for our concert. Our server did her best, but there was no support staff and the place was busy.
Sashimi that melts in your mouth and Panko encrusted roll that was both crunchy and tender. A friend and I shared a delightful meal with excellent service in the outdoor patio area. Would definitely dine here again..

Nice place but some tables get better service than others. Also, lamp on our table was out, but nobody else's, very noticeable to us yet not by staff.
We had a layover in SanDiego but arrived just after 9pm. We needed to find a restaurant open until 10:00. We picked Roy's. A taxi took us directly to the hotel's front entrance. Be warned that it is a long walk from the hotel lobby (something not noted online). (About the equivalent of a 2 block walk.) My husband had back surgery recently and found the walk torturous. They should warn people that you can't easily access the place. I had hoped that there was an alternative way to leave the restaurant (one that didn't require him walking all the way back to the lobby). I was wrong. When we arrived that hostess explained that it was the only access point. The food was OK (not as good as HI locations). The service was fair. The prices seemed OK...until we got our check. During the meal I ordered a glass of white wine (Cloudy Bay - not super high end) assuming it wasn't a luxury item. A single glass of wine was $43.00 (more than a martini with premium booze - and almost as expensive as a dinner entree.). Needless to say we will no longer be dining at Roy's.
I recommend requesting to be seating near the hostess stand side of the restaurant and not toward the kitchen side. It was noisy and disruptive, even though we were at a very nice table window. The wait staff congregated just outside the kitchen and the kitchen steward stood behind us, stacking plates and drying silverware. The noise took away from the ambience! As far as the food, the rib appetizer was delicious as well as the Chilean Sea Bass and Filet Mignon.
Amazing atmosphere, service was great.

It was a quiet night at Roy's as we were here on a Monday. Service was attentive and food spectacular! Love the rice and boat special appetizer! The chocolate cake was also a hit for dessert! We love coming here when in the area!
