Food was great and service was quick. Prices are a little expensive, so go during happy hour.

My family and I just left. I have to say, the food was fantastic. I got the Spinach Tequila fettuccine. It was so flavorful. Our server Jose was great. He made sure everything was going well. Specifically, my wife asked for a candle or something to light up the table. He immediately walked away and brought back a candle.

On to the negatives. Despite being a phenomenal location, the environment lacked ambiance. Sadly the restaurant was very empty so we got a table right by the beach glass. However the tables and area had no lighting. The fire pits were not on, and the restaurant has no signage.

The food and Jose saved the night and earned the 4 stars, but the ambiance needs some love. I hope the restaurant sticks around.

Takeout/delivery:
Pasta was clearly over cooked. Nothing special for chicken alfredo, seems like generic canned sauce.

Duck Tacos - save your time and money and skip it. I don't know how you can serve so little duck and put so many toppings to cover the taste.

Cheese bread is fine.

Chicken lettuce cups are weirdly stingy with the lettuce.

When we were visiting family in town, we swung here last minute due to long lines elsewhere. Our service was pretty haphazard, and most of the food was mid at best. However, I could eat dozens of those duck tacos EASILY.

Margarita was the best server. Food was great, service was wonderful and next time we are in town we will come back.

Thrilled to find Sammy’s in La Jolla! I was a regular at their Vegas spot 20 years ago but had no idea this was the original—and Sammy lives nearby! Delicious pizza and big, fresh salads—just as amazing!

The pizza and salads here are always consistently good and it's a great place for families. This location is a little smaller than the one that was in Mission Valley but they have smaller booths for 2 to 4 people. The service is also great even though the restaurant seems understaffed.

Tastes similarly to a MOD pizza. Not impressed.

MAL STELLA

The food is good but a bit overpriced, the coffee is $4.50 for a small cup (bring your own milk,) the waiters have always been attentive and prompt. However, the management is both cheap and insulting.

I’ve been coming to Sammy’s since Jan. 2, 2004, and for the last year have been dining outside with my large German Shepherd. Today I asked for water for my dog, but was brought a container of iced water that was extremely small. The dog’s huge tongue would’ve knocked the ice out, making a dangerous mess on the patio floor. When I asked for a larger container, like the black one the waiter brought me last week, I was told I couldn’t have one, that they’re too expensive. I asked again, because that’s what was given us 6 days ago. The waiter returned with the container, but said “This is the last time.” My only answer after this “first” request, was “And this is the last time I’m coming here.”

Being scolded was unnecessary. There are plenty of dog friendly restaurants in this area.
